Here is a little brain food, writen by a girl too, its about how boys and girls can better work with each other. im waiting to find one for men, but so far i've not found anything like that. this is just a girl talking about the way she feels girls are sexist towards men. it was interesting to read for sure.

THAT is actually funny.  But its not a joke at females expense, its a joke at the expense of extremism.  Which is a huuuge difference. Its funny to make fun of hateful extremists in order to highlight how absurd it is (See: The Daily Show etc.).  Its never funny to be on the other side of the line, even with a caveat.  I don't see the need to 'pretend' to be a troll... it doesn't help anyone.

Also, Chivalry should have died a long time ago... because chivalry IS sexist (seriously... it was a device created in the middle ages to disempower women).

...What? References, please? I'm not one to complain about chivalry being dead, probably because I'm lucky enough to have a very caring and thoughtful mate, but really?

Copied from wikipedia:
When examining medieval literature, chivalry can be classified into three basic but overlapping areas:
Duties to countrymen and fellow Christians: this contains virtues such as mercy, courage, valor, fairness, protection of the weak and the poor, and in the servant-hood of the knight to his lord. This also brings with it the idea of being willing to give one's life for another's; whether he would be giving his life for a poor man or his lord.
Duties to God: this would contain being faithful to God, protecting the innocent, being faithful to the church, being the champion of good against evil, being generous and obeying God above the feudal lord.
Duties to women: this is probably the most familiar aspect of chivalry. This would contain what is often called courtly love, the idea that the knight is to serve a lady, and after her all other ladies. Most especially in this category is a general gentleness and graciousness to all women.

The only way I could see that as being demeaning in any way is constantly treating women like they're made of glass. But to be honest, it sounds more to me like it's sexist against men if anything, because essentially they're worshiping women. It has been my experience however, that chivalry creates more mutual respect. By offering the chivalry, the man is respecting the woman's femininity, and by accepting acts of chivalry, the woman is respecting the man's masculinity.

And lastly, chivalry is kind of the basis of general common decency. Just replace "woman" or "women" with "human" or mankind in general, and BAM! Common decency.

Its talking about how lots of girls place expectations on men in the wrong way, lots of men are looked down on for not being like girls and lots of girls talk about how "There are no good men" because instead of choosing an honest dump truck driver they marry a rich lawyer who will just cheat on them with the next hot blonde he sees. im not saying this to badmouth girls, im restating what is in the article writen by a woman. use of "chivalry" is merely representing the womans view on a man, and i still beleave in chivalry as being the man's duty to be kind and caring to the person he loves <3

i think that young men 16-40 are meant to be protectors for the village system as we are bigger and stronger on avarage, its just the way we we're built, its a primal urge like the mothers love for a child, or when you feel the urge to make love, its all just natural instinct built into us from the early years of our existance.
I feel that we (everyone including both genders) are all 20% instinct, 40% feelings, and 40% logic. its how i feel we are built, not to say i haven't met girls who act "Manly" or boys who act "Girly"

Ok so im guessing this thread is only directed to the women on this form. Which is how it should be, cause women in general can be just as bad as men, even worse.

...Whaa? What do you mean "directed at the women"? It's in defense of the women, from some hurtful comments that were being made in other threads. Originally. Now it's kind of turned into an equal rights argument/discussion about chivalry.

...Did you... read the whole thread? o_O

... Yes I....did. O_o
If its in defense of women on this forum alone then thats understandable. I thought it was women in general i.e. outside the forum as well. To which i replied.

Women and Men can both be equality stupid, bitchy and right pain in the butts no matter where you go. Thats something everyone in their daily life has to deal with.

BOTH sexes get picked on, disgraced, and treated poorly by the other sex. Regardless if this thread was meant to be for just the females on this forum, it happens to everyone in daily life. A good lesson to learn is common decency. If people had more of this, or even a little bit of it at all, our forums, and the world, would be much easier to deal with.

For just this forum, we do have a lot of 'trolls' or people who cause drama because they can or don't know what tact is. People who cannot possibly put themselves in anothers shoes for a moment and say "Hey, this may have hurt their feelings or offended them." Then buck up and apologize. I mean everyone, myself included, has at some point in their life, said something they regret. If we work on a little common sense and tact, we'd have a lot less problems.

just figured i'd put in my two cents. lol.

Also, Wrath.. *hugs* regardless of the idiocy that happened a page or so back, this thread had a good purpose and i thank you for posting.
I wish people could think before they speak. You NEVER know who's been through what in their lives.

This is why academics don't accept Wikipedia as valid source material.  Theres no historical context at all, nor does it delve into the issues behind the systematic implementation of chivalry etc.(like, the code of chivarly only applied to noble born women).  The medieval scholar Georges Duby, for example, has some very insightful things to say on the topic.  This is definitely not the place for this discussion, however... you an PM if you want to talk more about chivalry in context.

Also, it WAS treating women as if they were made of glass- weak, incapable and licentious beings who needed to be kept under lock and key by their man as much as possible to prevent them from destroying the carefully planned patriarchal power structure.

No, academics don't accept wikipedia as valid source material because anyone can edit anything to say whatever they want, :p /smartass

Ugh. I was just on SoFurry and happened to see a picture on the main page of an anthro holding up a sign that said "I'm gonna rape y ou! <3" (or something like that). I commented and said that jokes about rape are not funny... and some guy was like "I think you are lost, this is the internet, anything and everything is funny"

http://www.sofurry.com/index.php?pid=231860

I'm disgusted.

Xen Garden

I admit, I do make my rape jokes... ALOT. But I make it clear that it's a joke, and I don't drag it on. And I only make these jokes towards my friends who won't get offended by it. And being a victim of rape, I know what extent of rape jokes are funny and what are not.
