Monthly Banner Request Thread V2 (ALL CREATIVE FOLK WELCOME & NEEDED!)

(With permission from RainRat, I will be running and organizing the monthly banners for the time being.)

MONTHLY BANNER REQUESTS

INFO & RULES

  • I know this list seems a bit intimidating! Overall, just have fun! We want to show off your wonderful art and events! :D
  • Banner dimensions are 136px high and 350px wide or less!
  • Can be drawn art, photography, sculpture, etc! As long as it follows the other rules.
  • Themes for banners usually correspond to the season or holidays in the month but if you have something else in mind, go for it! (PG-PG13 rating! Family friendly please!)
  • Animated banners ARE allowed at this time (Just please Do NOT make anything super flashy or seizure inducing.)
  • Artists & Local Events can reserve a max of 2 months in a year! (Can be consecutive or not.) Events can have the same banner image for both months due to the nature of the banner. Non-event banners should be different each month as to allow all interested artists to participate! (I will only post reserves for the current and following year, no farther in the future so make sure you reserve for each year! Event months will not automatically roll over due to the nature of events and constantly changing staff!)
  • Banners MAY be visible longer then their reserved time period if no one has provided a banner for the month(s) after that reserved slot. Yay bonus time!
  • If a month has not been claimed and has begun, if an artist wants to draw a last minute addition for that month and submit it, that is totally fine even if you have already reserved 2 months in the year!
  • COMMENT ON THIS THREAD WITH YOUR WANTED MONTHS. All the requests should be public here so that ANY of the available mods can update the banner if needed. (No PMs/Emails!)
  • Link your banner in a comment here when it is complete and ready to be put up! (You can post it well in advance if you'd like as well!)

*Any previous claims from Uni's thread will not be carried forward unless they were listed publicly in the previous thread. We cannot confirm what transpired in the past from previous PMs that are not on our accounts, as such, we can only remain fair going forward and start fresh. This is why all claimed months need to be public from now on. Thank you for understanding!*

Requesting Howloween gets Septmeber for 2016 and 2017.

I will leave october open for any artists that want to do a banner for halloween since i know thats one of the big months during the year that people like to draw for :3

Hey Temrin,

We haven't tried for a banner in a few years, but the chair asked me to try and get us a spot. Its certainly not something worth fighting about so what ever you think is fair will be fine for us. :D

(Another idea I was thinking about was possible a joint banner project. Advertise both events! Something to consider anyways. ^^)

Rainrat and i discussed the "joint" option but the primary thing is that usually, that would cause a lot of confusion for the people viewing it. Not everyone knows you are two different events (new community furs all the time) and if you guys posted a joint banner or an animated one, it may not be clear that you guys are different organizers and different events.

I would hate to see the events have issues because of this. D:

Honestly though, two non-consecutive months would probably help any event out in the long run because you will be spacing things out and not doing it just the two months before the event. (Which may prove to be too late for some to plan. So having an earlier month to be like "hey we exist!" and then a second one closer to the event to catch latecomers and as a reminder to those who were planning.) I am going to be doing so with VancouFur as well so that its spread out a bit. (Also gives more inbetween months to locals who want to do some fun banners. :3 )

So its up to you. I have you down for the months you requested in the previous thread for 2017 but if you want to split it up, just let me know when you want them! :)

Just  to confirm that this is indeed approved, and the new sticky thread. Temrin will notify me when the banner is resized and everything and ready to go.

Yeah, I guess that could get confusing hehe. This sounds fair to me.
We'll take November 2016 and May 2017. :D

If everyone involved was okay with this idea, we could also try alternating the month of May every year, as I'm sure its the month we both want. So we have it for 2017, Campfur can have it for 2018 and then back to us, and so on. Or we can just put in for it every year. Whatever works best for everyone. :3

I will get you on the list for November and May then!

I will wait to hear back from CampFur staff before i get them onto the list officially for 2017 and see what they think about the May swapping. (i added a placeholder for them for now)

I spread out VancouFur so that there is better opportunity for other events or artists instead of VF taking up 2 consecutive months and blocking it off.

So now, VF2017 adverts will be in Aug 2016 and Jan 2017.
VF2018 will advert in August 2017 (Can change if someone else really wants August/January though! Just let me know! :) I am flexible with VF's banner months so feel free to open a discussion with me here about it! <3)

It really is unfortunate that the event that has had the banner space for the past 5+ years in the same time slot can no longer have the same time slot since Tem has taken over the banner requests.
Not having the same time slots means other time slots will not work for CampFur - therefore, we will no longer be requesting banner time.
This should open up these times to other events that clearly need the advertising on the banner

I am sorry you feel that no banner time is worth it unless its those particular months and must be all of them or nothing.

If you change your mind in the future, just let me know. I'd be happy to get you in to any of the remaining months, including ones that fell into your time slot that are still open.

Advertising works only when the advertising is pre-event. Having advertising 3 - 4 - 5 months before the event does nothing for my event. It may for others, but unfortunately, the reality of advertising is that it needs to be immediately prior to the event.

There are still some of those time slots that you had, available to you for 2017. I am more then happy to put you in there if you want it! :) If you do not want it, then that is fine. There are plenty of people who need to know about something more then 2 months prior to be able to plan to even go. So if you wish to not try and take advantage of that, then that is your call. It is your event and your choice.

I am sorry that it is not to your liking but i am only trying to be fair to all the local events to make sure they get -something- within 2 months prior to their event, which there is still a spot for you there. Everyone deserves to have some airtime for their event. Change happens. More events pop up, everyone should be included if they wish to be.

If you want an open slot in the future, all you have to do is ask.

Random dumb question: Could we not set up an image rotator or even a random 'on load' selection if there's multiple banners for the same slot? ^.^

i.e. first time you load a page, banner for event A.  Next page load, banner for B (or C).  This'd be dependent on how SMF works and if someone wants to find a plugin or tweak it.

We could though that would be up to Rainrat and weather there is something that works with the board to facilitate that. Not sure if it would be more trouble then its worth? Totally willing to do it if people want it and mods are okay with managing it. (I dont do any of the picture uploading. D: So i can't help with that!)

Right now, i only know that one at a time is a thing that i have to work with. So that's how i have to plan for the time being. If that ends up being a thing in the future though, then totally! Though it still may not be what people want since they'd still be effectively splitting the month with someone else. Totally willing to give it a go if its possible though.

(Just as long as they load separately and all. One of the issues talked about above was that if they were animated together it might be to confusing. People may not realize they are two separate things or be able to catch the site URL or might get the wrong one, since the banners aren't direct links. -and i dont think a double wide banner with both would fit?- So if Rainrat is willing, pages loading separate ones would probably be fine as long as the participants were okay with sharing the slot.)
