Tef

I don't usually bump topics but this seems bump worthy.

I just wanted to come up with a name that's short and sweet, something that you can put on the back of a Canadian license plate and still have space for random numbers.
Originally, I decided to go with a really generic everyday name such as Stefan, but I decided to just shorten it to Tef, pronounced [təv]. My favourite weather is typhoon weather, reflecting my fursona's elemental siding of predominantly wind and subdominantly water, of which I ended up pronouncing [taɪvun] half of the time, and originally, I wanted to go with T3f, but I'm not a fan of leetspeak either way.

In addition, I wanted a name that reflects a bit on my fursona, a Tamaskan Sled Dog.

Originally (this word is becoming a broken record in the post), I wanted to go with Xok, pronounced the same as Shock, but I'm not that much of an electrifying fur myself.
Yipper yapper yip yap!

(Hopefully I haven't posted here already. There don't seem to be that many new threads.)

My fursona has gone through a few names already. Originally, Kimari. A friend suggested that and I just thought it was cool. And then I changed forum (gaiaonline) usernames and decided to start off fresh, with Kai. But...I soon realized that was a really popular nickname. So, I was hunting for interesting names. And when I was at work, Jasper randomly popped into my head, and I couldn't get rid of it. Despite the Twilight references, I love my new name <3 I'm sticking with it.
Nonbinary (they/them), coffee addict, cosplayer

Kai

Well. Now I feel generic. :/

But, my parents were actually going to call me 'Kai' at some point. They figured i'd get made fun of in the long run though... but I like it.

MurphyErasmus

Yay, rant time.

So there are three parts to my name, Murphy Erasmus Grimmerie. First name, dominant parent's name, species. So if, for example, my rat Diego was a grimm, she'd be Diego Murphy Grimmerie (or grimmerat? Silly.) If I were to use my real name, I'd be Maggie David Grimmerie, but Murphy Erasmus sounds cooler ;)

First name, Murphy. Murphy's Law sorta sums up my life. Seriously, almost anything in my life that can fuck up will, often in a hilarious way. Need to wake up at six? Screw that, you're waking up at seven by vomiting on your face. Oh, you have a party tomorrow that you need to cook for? Awesome, when presetting the oven, you'll forget your mother put her computer in there, set the laptop and oven on fire, and end up with the fire department mocking you (TRUE FUCKIN STORY YOU GUYS). You're going on a week-long skiing trip tomorrow? HAVE THE NORWALK VIRUS. Life hates me, and likes to prove it by making fun of me at every possible opportunity.

Okay, now for Erasmus. I was talking to a friend of mine about names and he suggested Erasmus. Now, I'd been mulling names over for a while, and I realized this really fits. Saint Erasmus is the patron saint of sailors, and sometimes, before or after swords, "St. Elmo's Fire" will appear, to prove to sailors that they have the protection of St Erasmus. In my life I feel like, whenever I face something especially hard (a storm, if you will), my dad gives me strength and helps me through. He's my St. Erasmus, so he's part of my name (and now part of my body thanks to my tattoo!)

Grimmerie - my species! I won't go on a long rant here; essentially they're big bear-like canines with manes and back spikes. And parents can be any combination of either sex - male+male, male+female, female+female - as insemination can only be achieved when two grimms have mated for life and combined their souls. They also don't achieve sexual maturity until they've figured what gender they are, and their sex corresponds. Yep, awesome species, I know. B)

EskapePeanut

The 'Eskape' part come from the film Finding Nemo. You know when Dory and Marlin are trapped by the shark and then Dory reads the hatch inside of the shipwreck and says while reading the door " Hey, look. "Esc-a-pay". I wonder what that means? That's funny, it's spelled just like the word "escape." "

So I though I'd be original and spell the word escape wrong, purposely replacing the 'c' with a 'k'. With one reason being: it can then be pronounced 'esc-a-pay', it also gives it a french 'je suis' sound to it, and since my first names starts with a 'k' its just a little bit more mysterious lol ( long rant about one word!)

As for 'Peanut'......I like them!! Really though 'peanut' is more of a cute thing in its meaning. I'm a bit of an introvert..I have a bit of a 'shell' when it comes to myself (I'm more shy then having some type of wall up), however once you break it open you find I'm a but nutty and eccentric and weird.  I'm short LOL I also seem to attracts Stellar's jays and squirrels when I'm outside.... I also make awesome sandwiches!!!

Now! As for my fursona being called Peanut. Peanut the bat... He's a Peter's Woolly False Vampire Bat.. so that makes him a cannibal in a way since that species eats other bats! He's cute and seems harmless but will eat you... SURPRISE! Much like peanuts which seems harmless but cause about 150 to 200 deaths a year for allergies!! SO WATCH OUT! Peanut's gonna get ya, eat ya, then eskape! xD Never to be caught!!

I'm so funny.... :)
Words. Words. Words.

Nyanners

Well, when I first got into the fandom four years ago, I really didn't think much of it. I pretty much just referred to myself as "Kitteh" on chatrooms and such. I was also a generic black cat, as generic as one could get =D

It wasn't until about 2 years ago I started going as Nyan Kolaris. Despite what EVERYBODY thinks, I did not get the name from the god-damn Nyan Cat >:C How the story goes is this:
Two years ago, a friend of a friend was running a fashion show that was showcasing different Japanese styles. She was desperate for a male model, so my friend suggested that I model  in the show. I agreed, and we were all set. Except for the fact that my real name wouldn't sound very sexy or model-like (Kevin, despite it's meaning, doesn't sound very sexy or alluring). This led to a pondering session with my friend over what my "model" name should be. We were throwing vaguely Japanese sounding names around, when she said "Nyan-ko?" My reply: "...so much yes". (Now, at this point I did not know that 'nyan' was also Japanese for 'meow') Once the show was over, I realized Nyan was actually a pretty badass sounding name, and my fursona was evolving to have more unique, standout features. I kind of figured that Kitteh was as generic as a genericat could get, so I ditched that name and changed it to Nyan. As for Kolaris; well, I just extended the '-ko' from Nyan-ko to a name that sounded badass to my 16 year old self. And that is all she wrote, I guess. Not terribly exciting as origin stories go, but then again, we can't all be brooding millionaires who adopt the mantle of a bat to fight crime in order to fulfill a childhood promise to his murdered parents, can we?

Fazar

When I was 10, I had a active imagination, and had this idea for a fox character guy thing that was white.  It was a project dear to me so I was trying to come up with a name, and though I like my actual name Fraser, I wanted to make it sound more 'spacey'.  So I kind of threw a Z in there because I thought that was pretty sci fi.  Also turned an E to an A. Thus, Fazar

Now I got two new characters who are kind of being my avatar, name, ect.  Jolan was me trying to fancify "Joe".  Wanted a simple name for my Skull guy.

Haurbus was when I felt I was able to be more exotic at names, and I recall being impressed by the word Omnibus.  Haur was just a made up sound that sounded kind of exotic so I rolled with it.
"Times running short.  I'm going to go punch this mountain into space"

kohl

Moved to Coquitlam with a guy that was in the fandom. I thought fur names were pretty stupid, so I didn't have anything different then my Government name and my email address. We planned to go out to a dinner meet and he told me to make up a fur name. On the spot I came up with Kohl. I learned a few months later that it was the same name of his past dog.

Snoww

I chose the name Snoww back in 2006 when I was first coming online. I assumed that there are many different individuals with the same name as Snow, SnoWolf, SnowWolf... so I opted to tack on an extra W... and I think it looks well; not every word can have an extra letter at the end and I think it works well in my case to differ myself from others.

The extra 'w' in my name means wolf, and Wolf I am.
Time, life and energy fades with each shackled second.

Leon

I love the band Kings of Leon, and the name Leon reminds me of the stars, for some odd reason..  :-X
I'm short, fat, and easily excitable.

Dallas

Nothing ground breaking for mine. When I first got involved with the fandom, I went by Dall. It later extended into Dallas as the name appealed to me. Now people assume I'm a texan.

Neox

For those who don't know me by now, I'm an otherkin (though you'll have to ask me the specifics, since I'm WAY more vanilla than your usual, crystal-waving, magick-practising wack-job otherkin), and I used to be way more into the whole practical shit like meditation and all that crap.  The name "Neox" came to me many years ago while I was sitting on my bed listening to Serenity by Godsmack, sorting through the vast creative depths of my mind, trying to figure out more about this new sensation that was my discovery of my affinity to my character and to dragons, in-general.

After I abandoned the whole metaphysical garbage that I was suckered into by the draconic otherkin community (added to the fact that I was 13 at the time), I learned to figure out more about myself and my representation of myself as a dragon through my artwork.  Even after that night the name "Neox' came to me, it always felt like something was missing... like that was only part of a name.  After a while, I finally sat down and started brainstorming names which incorporated "Neox."  Then I put together "Naetholix," which is an almost-anagram of "Neox."

Haha a lot more clever than I, shit that's crazy though, that was the same age that I was going through that Draconic/ Kin related identity/ discovery O.=.o crazy

Neox

Off topic, but yeah, I think most people find out they're a furry/otherkin at that age because that's when kids typically hit their identity crisis in middle-school as they're trying to find a group to fit into (if they don't already have one).  Most of us discover who we are as people around that age.  For many, the furry/otherkin thing is just a fad and it fades away after time; but for me, it's a legitimate solid feeling that's stuck with me for 9 years and shows no signs of dying.

That is a pretty good point. Heck most people I have seen find the furry fandom at about 14-16 it seems. While I only just recently started to feel comfortable using the Draconic label once again, the inner identity and spirituality managed to stick it through since the beginning. I really can't see me fading form the fandom as a general any time soon.
