I hate MMORPGs (Kind of a rant)

The only MMORPG games I have played are Diablo 2 and Runescape *waits to get flamed for playing the last one*

To rant on em is really kinda pointless though IMO, because is simply 1 genera of games. I myself am a huge FPS nut as well, but some times I like to sorta just kick back with a grind fest game like Runescape simply because its one of those games where you feel like your building something up, you got character development and with that you can do more epic and fun things where as with a FPS your really just putting yourself out there with a (insert fancy name for sub-machine gun here) Im not bashing FPS because I am a huge fan, but they do get boring at times or real annoying since you got the same kind no lifers whpo have like some uber level'd MMORPG character, except they are instead guys who can camp at the far corner of a map and get a bulls-eye on like the exat same spot on your face every time you run/jump/serpentine your way out of the spawn.

I've only read the first post... but in my opinion, two of those three games are horrible choices if you don't want to be dedicated to the game (EQ I have not played.) Eve is just a massive black-hole for time, and WoW makes it a bit difficult to play with friends in my experience. My personal favorite MMORPG of all time has to be Guild Wars. You can reach the level cap in less than a week, and from there everyone is equal, and the game is then based on skill, foresight and teamwork. Gear has only very minor variations, so players who only have 30 hours of gameplay compared to players with 500+ hours of gameplay will have very similar gear in terms of quality and how much of a boost it gives you. Almost nothing is permanent, you have dozens of different skills for your character, but you can only bring eight into a fight, each one being linked to one of several attributes, which you can pump points into to make the skills of that attribute stronger (ex: soul reaping for necromancers.)

I personally think that the idea is brilliant. I get a bit annoyed in games like WoW when players who have the time to play the game all day, every day end up being vastly more powerful than other players who enjoy the game just as much, but don't have the free-time to invest into the game. I like games where skill and intelligence play a greater role in determining the victor rather than how much experience the enemy player could grind up while you were gone and how much epic gear he got while farming all day.

I'm excited about Guilds Wars 2... most MMORPGs I've played since Guild Wars was released have been rather large disappointments. GWs skill and level system were love <3
