I know this has been brought up in a previous topic, but I think that it's time we actually get into a bigger deeper discussion about this and have something resolved about this problem. I have noticed the HUGE amount of sexism on these forums. It seems that everywhere I look on here, all I ever see anymore is the gay furs calling the girls gross because they have tits and a vagina.
STOP IT!
I can't stand it anymore. I feel so unwelcome on these forums and in the general fandom just because some immature gay guys won't GROW UP. Last time I checked, gay guys weren't test tube babies, they came out of their mothers vaginas just like EVERYONE ELSE. I don't think that's very gross. It's called LIFE. And the last time I checked, a girl's vagina is the only self cleaning organ in the human body. Not even a penis can clean itself, so GET SCRUBBING.
And yeah I AM A GIRL, but I HATE it when I am identified as icky, or a vagina instead of a person and judged because of things I was born with and are natural. I am a human being, just like anyone else on here is. Nobody likes it when people use "Gay" to describe something stupid. And I think the forums have done a good enough job not using that word for that reason. I am not trying to start drama, I am just trying to find a solution to stop this ongoing problem. My BANNED! thread is already starting to turn into an "Eww girls are gross" thread, and I don't find that welcome. It's not like I tell people HEY I HAVE A VAGINA, BE GROSSED OUT ABOUT IT! Nobody brings up the topic about their cock and have the girls on here go "Eww PENIS!". Even the gay female furs don't do that on here. I am pretty sure we are all adults, not elementary school students who believe in cooties.
Last time I checked, none of the female furs are trying to force themselves onto any of the gay male furs. I would prefer it if you kept your sexist comments to yourself and just let any of the female furs hitting on you know that you are not into girls. And keep it at that.
Also I don't CARE what kind of bashing and flaming and hate I'll get out of this thread. I am doing the right thing by standing up for what I think is right. EQUAL RIGHTS plzkthx. So go ahead and send me messages and comments if you don't like what I have to say. I'm just going to laugh my ass off as I read them.
Just so we're all clear, you're referring primarily to this right?

How was that funny though? I really don't get that.
If anything it's a person's mouth that is a breeding ground. For a lotta things, really.

There's not much more to say on my part, you're made some good points.

I was hoping to nip this in the bud for the sake of drama censorship, but apparently everyone else feels differently. :-\
I agree with you completely Wrath! I feel so unwelcome among the majority of the community. Also, the thing that I think I may hate the most is the "Make me a sammich!" and "What are you doing out of the kitchen?!" jokes. NOT FUNNY.
I haven't been here for that long so perhaps its different with furries, but in my experience, sexism is pretty much dead, and most of the time when someone says something sexist, its not meant as offensive, its just supposed to be funny, even if its not actually funny in the slightest.

most of the time its not particularly funny, no, but, with the ever increasing troll population, and the birth of the ICHC company racist, sexist, and otherwise offensive jokes are becoming more and more popular, most people don't mean them however, its just bad humor, and you shouldn't take offence.
I see this trend elsewhere, unfortunately, especially in discussion of art where an artist has drawn a female character and gay furries come in going "needs more penis' or 'shame it's a girl' or something of the sort instead of just enjoying the art. That's disappointing.
THANK YOU.
And Ren, you can't nip something in the bud for drama censorship. It's not drama censorship, it's beating around the bush of a serious issue. When the "Bi?" thread started, and went the way of 'vagina's are icky' I damn well nearly left because of it.
Rage rage rage. Wrath, Thank you for putting into words everything that I've been raging about in my head for the last few weeks.
Caution: Ferret rant incoming.
There's this peculiar "All gay furries must be GAY" attitude floating about, lately; It's almost like there's some form of sexuality-focused Stockholm syndrome loose. One where a sexual identity isn't so much something to be had as defended. It's rather obnoxious, and it makes any of the moderate bisexuals (or in my case pansexual) look rather immature. To the culprits? Knock it off. It's really puerile, obnoxious behavior and it will not curry you favor among the more mature members of the community, nor is it going to get you laid. Grow up. I welcome the female members of the community as valuable contributors, heedless of their own orientation (I will more than happily lay into the first idiot to COMPLAIN about the higher incidence of lesbian furs amongst our community-- that's just as bad!). On behalf of my gender, I apologize for the noisy ones.
To those of you making "Ewww!" noises, let's look at this from a logical standpoint: If you really are well and truly gay, what the bloody hell does it matter what genitalia anyone has if your relations with them are going to be purely platonic? If you're bisexual and somehow taking potshots at the female members or male members, gender irrelevant, you have a slight hypocrisy problem going on: You aren't bisexual, you're either misogynistic or misanthropic, and in serious denial. Unless you're intending to bed someone, their genitalia do not bloody well matter. Do not let it be a point of childish divisiveness in what's otherwise intended to be peaceable, open and friendly platonic relations.
Chill out, and realize that you are not in the fifth grade; You do not have to point at a passing girl and shriek about cooties anymore, to avoid being ostracized by your peers. Bitching about the opposite sex does not earn you Cool Points, redeemable for mad ravishing. It just gets you glared at. Stoppit.
: Selkit March 16, 2011, 12:20:06 -06:00There's this peculiar "All gay furries must be GAY" attitude floating about
"all gay furries must be gay"?
lol I read that as "All male furries must be gay!" and was what I was going to respond to... and even though it isn't what you said (maybe it is what you meant?) I will post my response anyway.
... That bugs the crap out of me. A straight guy happens to come in and the gay guys are like "Yeah, suuuuuuure he is straight!" and "He won't be straight for long!!!" >___> Just because you and your friends are gay doesn't mean that EVERYONE is.
Well. I had no idea my comment had such a negative impact on the community. I'm sorry. I especially don't like to think that I might be the reason for making people leave the site. :-\
Concerning flame wars. . . I think I may have missed that. Although that's probably for the best.
I agree, has gotten out of hand. Folks it`s time we grow up a little bit...
Wrath, Zenia, and Selkit. All i have to say, is thank you! ^.=.^ I mainly tried to avoid those topics, because they were so dam ridiculous!
If you have a problem with someone, it had better be something derivative of their personality! or actions! To be ignorant, or rude, regarding a part of the body someone has, whether it dangles or not, is completely counter productive and foolish.
Back to the love now?
Yay~ I am so glad I am getting such good feedback for this thread. I was afraid it was just going to start some drama or make people hate me. But I thought it was about time that something was done.
Oh Ren, I'm sorry, I didn't mean your comment specifically; just the abundance of them that happened in that thread. It was very unwelcoming, especially since I'd only been part of the forums for a short period of time. And, to be fair, being pregnant, hormonal, and emotional, really doesn't help. Especially with a topic like THAT. :/
*is emo in a corner, T_T*
Wrath, really, thank you. So much. Again.
This is a perfect example of what the community needs to start doing to nail problems in the butt before it gets out of hand. As part of the male fur portion of the community its a sad day to hear that our counter parts are being treated with such immature comments and toilet humor by some of our male residents. As a male I apologize on my own behalf as a male in this community to all the wonderful lady furs. Don't lose hope in the community because of a select bunch saying comments. there is still plenty of us who share equality and the value of the person's you are and not base things by gender.
I'd also like to take my hat off to you wrath and thank you for standing up for what you know is right and defending your fellow female furs. so kudo's to you and I would like to hope this opens the door to the community having brighter and more enjoyable times for the future for all persons no matter the gender. ^_^
Awwe you're so sweet :3 Thank you.
Hi guys,
This is a rather inflammatory subject so I'll try and have some rare restraint. I'm not going to comment much about the topic on hand, but rather I'd like to give an explanation (not a justification) for the behavior.
The first thing you must accept is that the furry fandom is largely made up of gay people- that's a given. But the second thing that you must realize is what TYPE of gay people it is largely made up by. It's not full of scene kids, it's not full of the club type. No, it is full of the socially awkward, and shy type (gay or not)
What this means is that furry for a lot of people is the first place that they can feel comfortable being gay, and exploring gay topics. Furry is the first exposure to a broader social culture for many people. Furry is the first place that they feel safe.
Now I'd like for you to think about gay clubs. Gay clubs come out of the desire of a minority to have a place that they can just be themselves in a safe, and comforting environment that is full of their peers.
The parallel I would like to draw here is what happens when straight people go to gay clubs. For the vast majority of the people there, they have no problem with it. But, for some, they view it as the place getting a little less safe to be gay. They feel the need to stand up for the "values" of their place. The feel the need to make sure that the straight people are treated as outsiders. After all, they could have just as easily gone to one of the many straight bars.
The reason that many gay people go "eww vagina" is the same reason that many straight people talk about tits to one another. It reestablishes their sexuality.
This behavior is drawn out of immaturity and a lack of confidence in one's on sexuality. It's part of being new to one's own sex drive. Complain all you want about it, but it wont go away. Just try and understand WHY people feel the need to make comments like that, and you'll feel better. :)
TL;DR- Anti-women comments come from the same place that "omg check out her tits" comments come from- youth and insecurity.
To the people making the comments:
Suck a dick or something, and I mean that in the nicest way :)
No matter what... there is no justification or "ok reason" that they make these comments. I don't care that they are reaffirming their sexuality. They can do it without insulting an entire gender. >_>
: Ember March 16, 2011, 04:35:01 -06:00
I'd like to give an explanation (not a justification) for the behavior.
: Ember March 16, 2011, 06:57:45 -06:00*quote*
No, no I realize that you aren't trying to justify it... but if THEY are trying to with something like that... then it isn't acceptable. :P
One point you brought up was that when straight guys say "omg check out her tits!" it is reaffirming their sexuality... I wonder why these gay guys we are talking about just can't say "omg check out his butt/chest/etc!" instead of various "eeeew vagina" comments. It is so much better to be positive than to piss off a bunch of people. XD
: Ember March 16, 2011, 04:35:01 -06:00
...
The reason that many gay people go "eww vagina" is the same reason that many straight people talk about tits to one another. It reestablishes their sexuality.
...
I disagree with this example. These two things are not parallel.
The equivalent would be a straight male saying how much they are unattracted to guys and the thought of a guy's genitals disgusts them.
Now, as I have said in another thread, the thought that anyone on this board would participate in insulting or degrading of another for their biology is shocking and, in many cases, hypocrisy at its finest.
We're all here trying to find some part of a whole that we feel is missing and that being a furry seems to fill. Let us not ruin that experience for another by throwing around insults and causing a division. Save the venom for those that truly warrant it.

Thanks for catching that. Up way too late. I also have this wonderful issue where if I type to much, the scroll goes wonky in the post box so I can't review my post. This is usually why you might see a lot of edits from me.
I think people have covered the explicitly sexist portion of this issue fairly well but I'd like to highlight one of the other influences that contribute to this issue and certainly one that will prove more difficult to extinguish. Comments like 'ew vagina' and the like are obviously as previously stated strait up sexist remarks, there are plenty of ways of expressing that you don't enjoy a thing without being so simplistic and insulting. Contrarily comments like 'get in the kitchen' and 'make me a sammich' have a different source in a certain spectrum of internet culture which unfortunately makes a very strong point of being insulting to damn near everyone. Since as a community we're very steeped in internet culture of which these sort of comments are a part in the same way that 'can I haz a cheezeburger' is while I think that trying suppress this sort of thing will prove challanging as not everyone understands the importance of knowing what's appropriate in what context.
Honestly I see two sentiments here - the guys that feel the need to try and reaffirm their sexuality in front of their peers ('eww vagina'), and the misogynist 'make me a sammich' type comments. Now, I can agree that taking things out of context is bad - like it or not, many people throw the word 'gay' around to describe something they don't like without thinking about or meaning to offend, and there's a whole internet subculture around (half?)-joking misogyny, but that doesn't mean we just throw our hands up and give up trying to fight it. :p
I'm comfortable in my sexuality - I'm straight, but I'll talk about penis and dryhump my bi or gay male friends (in front of the girls, of course, because they like it. :p). I like my penis. But in my case, only MY penis. XD *shrug* I think we can all agree though, that trying to keep the maturity level up a bit is a good thing; cracking those kinds of jokes may make that subset feel more at ease with their group, but alienate others, and the last thing we need is to start dividing ourselves up again over things like this.
Thank you Wrath, for starting this thread, and thank you to everyone who's being responsibly mature about this topic. It is a mind bender to see comments as described on the forums, specially on the Bi thread. I was quite taken aback at such comments but didn't think much of it after the fact. (I see a LOT of these comments around the net and IRL that i guess i just roll my eyes and ignore them after the initial shock.) Those comments just scream insecurity and immaturity, as others have stated as well. I know people can do very silly things when they feel insecure or are just immature, though, i hope those who leave comments like that, begin to realize how much its actually going to impact their social lives. If they have a problem with females, so be it but you needn't be insultingly verbal about it. Your just going to make people dislike you or at least be vary wary of you. I know a few people who have problems being around a certain sex because they've had bad thing happen to them in the past. That, in itself, is trauma induced insecurity and is a little more understandable then just reaffirming their sexual status. I don't mean just being dumped by a person of the opposite sex either. I mean real, over the top, abuse.
I know everyone takes things differently in life (Specially in regards to what trauma is to each person is different), that's where a little patience comes in handy, but i do agree, i dislike hearing the kitchen jokes and having my girl parts degraded. Tbh, i hate having a vagina. Who REALLY wants to bleed for 7 days (each women is different) right? Haha. But, i'm happy with who i am, comfortable with myself. I hope the people making degrading comments will come to be confident and secure about themselves as to not do that anymore. Theres already enough hate in this world.
Again, Thanks Wrath! <3

Not trying to attack you or anything.. But I would try telling this to the 90,000 or so women who get raped every year in the United States alone. (taking in to account that a VERY small amount are actually tallied and reported to the police due to shame, threats, etc.) I also thought Canada ranked very high on the reported rape per capita list. (don't pull the 'women can rape people too' thing.. I believe something over 95% of rapes are male initiated.)
Not to mention the millions more who have experienced some sort of physical assault from a man.
I'm sure if any of you know someone who's been raped or molested that it changes their life forever. Sexism should not be taken lightly because it turns the humanness of a woman and turns it into a concept. To reduce the aliveness of another being to a concept is a form of violence.
Thank you for addressing this topic Wrath. This is the main reason why I never end up getting too involved with this community. I just don't feel safe.. Mostly because sexist comments REALLY hurt my feelings. D: Sometimes it feels like the only people who have the time of day for me in BCfurries are the straight males.
Don't hate on yourselves, ladies.
The female being is a thing of beauty. We are the holy vessel and the bringer of life, whether we choose to bear children or not. There is nothing different between the human vagina and the human nose, hand or foot. It's just a body part that we've all been desensitized to and taught to feel shameful of because of society. EVERYTHING is crawling with bacteria. It's called life.
We are born with a deep and magical connection to nature and animals and an extreme sensitivity to empathy and emotions. We are intellectual on an introverted sense but also have a deep ability for language and communication. Unless we learn to have infallible pride and comfort in ourselves, we will have challengers.
Not to say that the male being isn't a thing of beauty. It is. For different reasons.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that we're all beings BORN as men or women. We all started out in the womb as the same gender.
Not only should we embrace our similarities but we should revel in our differences. It's contrast that makes our world interesting to live in.
I am a human being. Not the concept of a human being.
You are too!
lol. End rant.
Let's be all about love, guys!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: people suck
men tend to be more aggressive than women, but the general population doesn't go around raping everybody, some people are fucked up and there's not much to be done about that.

Woah don't spaz out, its all in good fun. if we wanted to offend you there are worse things we would say, as these things are not being said i think we can draw that we are not trying to offend you or make you feel unwelcome :)
Regardless of what you think people mean by it, when it offends someone, it offends them. Just like how a man can whistle at a girl walking down the street and how the girl can find it repulsive or offensive. Most people don't realize how many people feel unwelcome or harassed by their words. Most people are desensitized to an extent but we still feel hurt from a persons words especially when there ARE people with bitter resentment to the opposite sex and are doing it out of bitterness and resentment. Those people, MEAN those words in a harsh light. Some people, if they don't mean it, definitely make it seem like they do by how much they make those ridiculous comments.

How about this; If you didn't want to offend us, instead of trying to put US in the wrong, you just suck up your pride and apologize? Impact over intent. If you didn't mean to offend us, and yet obviously you did, then why not just man up and say "Sorry, didn't mean to be offensive, it won't happen again."? Why is that so difficult?

Not to be rude, but you should be the last person to be saying anything since you're a reoccurring offender of sexist remarks on my BANNED! thread. This is the internet. I can't hear your voice, or see your face when you have something to say, so I never know if you're joking. And to constantly bring it up in my forum game just makes you look more and more like an ass.
If it's a joke, you should make it clear that it is a joke by adding "JK" or "*Sarcasm*" after your comments. Otherwise, you're just looking like an asshole as big as Goate's.
Think twice before you post rude remarks on the forums.
Rei, "*Facepalm*" is not an appropriate response when three people tell you your behavior's inappropriate. And for the record, I'll add a fourth to that motion. Remember me distinctly telling you to think about what you say before you say it? Pull your foot out of your mouth, stop digging deeper, and either apologize or go sit quietly in the corner.
Rei... you are a jerk. :C
On the other furry boards I frequent, we like to use :V as a sign of sarcasm. It works very well. Perhaps we should adopt it here? Though I still don't think that being sarcastic with sexist comments is ok.
Rei, you've been called out for being a dick. The perception of the last few posts has been that your behavior is laced with dick moves. That's a fairly good sign you should probably stop.
Oh but I did mention you in my last post. Like I said. This is the internet, I cannot see you or hear you and therefor can't tell if you're joking or not.
And since you're obviously familiar with the fact that these jokes are immature, why don't you be an adult and grow up. Also Facepalming is not an answer to an important discussion. How would you like it if you brought up an important topic and everyone facepalmed you? It would make you feel pretty shitty, now wouldn't it.?
And you're wrong, you are involved with the issue. You've already admitted that you've committed the crime, and now you have to do the time. Why can't you let go of your pride and admit to your sins and repent?
Just ask the mods to make these comments against forum rules, cuz i will no longer be keeping track of this thread.

Common sense isn't really as common as one would hope. Rules have been put in place for a long time because of people who lack these skills.
Having expections for other peoples common sense doesn't make any sense at all. We were not all brought up in the same conditions.
If there is a poor comment to be posted. You bet if the rules don't say not too. it will be said.

I'm sorry that not everyone can take a little off colored joke half heartedly. It's the internet, come on now.
The furry community isn't supposed to be a tight knit family like group. It doesn't work that way. It's like trying to fit a square peg into a circular hole. Not everyone is going to like every single view, discussion or comment.
In regards to "Now if you kindly would stand aside and l keep your topic bash comments to yourself that would be a great help thanks", should I just go make my own thread and say you're not allowed in it? Because that's kinda what's going on here.

I agree that not everyone will like everyone, it isn't really possible socially, though we can be at least civil.
Also, while it is now known to be a joke, the comment about this thread needing to be ignored is the equivalent of a derail. It's an attempt to cause the focus of the argument to spin towards what really is worthy of being discussed on the board, another topic entirely.
Given the fact part of the current problem is jokes made by others that to them seems fine, but can easily be misconstrued, for the time being I would advise all to refrain from that attempt of humor in this thread, but this is my opinion.

so can we just agree to not have any more "icky vagina/girls" posts? I'd like to believe that generally, an offhand sexist joke every once in a while can be funny, but those aren't even jokes. they're just hurtful words that make us feel unwelcome.

This.
Sometimes I don't mind a sammich joke (though they are funnier when roles are reversed... I guess kinda like how black guys are taking the N word back?) but I don't want to be written off just because I have private parts that someone doesn't like. You don't like vaginas? Then good for you, don't have sex with girls. But girls are MORE than just private parts.

Using the Internet as an excuse still does not justify peoples bad behavior as acceptable. So because its the internet people can't be offended by distasteful remarks? Unless indicated nobody can tell if its a joke to start with. I mean seriously would a little common courtesy kill that much?
That's not even a valid response. That's a sheer cop out to discard peoples concerns. The community is still a community and like it or not everyone should at least be civil about things. So having a discussion such as this is healthy it encourages
growth and promotes people to be civil towards one another. Not everyone has to agree but at the same time take into consideration bad behavior on all aspects is considered unacceptable otherwise it wouldn't be labeled as such.
You had no grounds to fall back on so you throw that response out? Seriously? In an important discussion we don't walk in and go "this is pointless remove it". How is that anything to contribute to the topic at hand? that is classified as spam which it degrades the topics logic which is never welcome.
lol a white knight as you say should never have such expectations. 8) Besides I believe the ladies have handled this topic themselves very nicely without help from any knights :)
so in conclusion and to not violate this topic into an on going debate any further I will not continue this discussion. :3

i'm not really like this whole empowered woman routine, were all friends here, its not you vs anyone, you've let everyone know that you think their behavior was offensive and i'm sure they will all make an effort to refrain from such behavior in the future, can we just get back to being friends now?
Once in a while the minority group deserves a little unity. Especially if we work together to overcome a problem so we feel more welcome in a community. Now that the problem is resolved, I think the minority group deserve a little celebration. Just putting it out there.
What's wrong with being empowered? Just because we're empowered as women doesn't mean you can't be empowered as men or that we can't be empowered as living beings together!
Like I said before- Unless we can have infallible dignity in ourselves we will have challengers. No one was attacking men, we are just celebrating femininity.
: Sevrin March 16, 2011, 02:19:48 -06:00
I've said it before and I'll say it again: people suck
men tend to be more aggressive than women, but the general population doesn't go around raping everybody, some people are fucked up and there's not much to be done about that.
Don't joke about rape. Please. It is very hurtful to some people and we know it's only a half joke. Please do some research before you make comments about it not being a big deal.
1 in 6 american women will be the victim of attempted sexual assault.
15 of 16 american rapists will never spend a day in jail.
This is just in america.. I'm guessing the statistics in third world countries are even more alarming.
PLEASE remember that women basically just got rights in Canada about 100 years ago with the right to vote.
I'm not bawing or anything.. Just pleading that you have some understanding.
Girls just don't become one of those crazy feminists groups, the ones that seem to say "Girls are better than boys so let's talk about trying to become the same class as men... GET AWAY YOU UGLY DICK WIELDER!"
thats a little too far for the whole empowering thing, just letting you know there are girls out there who take it too far. but i don't think i need to worry about you guys :) *Was joking about crazy people in the states*
the funny thing about that is, its true. feminazis. I once read a blog that stated all sex instigated by a man was rape.

i'm not saying its not a big deal, the joke was just me trying to lighten the mood a little
i'm saying that some people are fucked up, and that there will always be people like that, its not really fair to compare normal people to rapists, everyone thinks rapists are scum, there's no argument there.
I know this has been brought up in a previous topic, but I think that it's time we actually get into a bigger deeper discussion about this and have something resolved about this problem. I have noticed the HUGE amount of anti-rapism on these forums. It seems that everywhere I look on here, all I ever see anymore is the non-raping furs calling the rapists gross because they have rape and a lack of consent.
STOP IT!
I can't stand it anymore. I feel so unwelcome on these forums and in the general fandom just because some immature unraping guys won't GROW UP.
And yeah I AM A WHITE VANNER, but I HATE it when I am identified as icky, or a rape-monger instead of a person and judged because of things I choose to do. I am a human being, just like anyone else on here is. Nobody likes it when people use "rapist" to describe something stupid. And I think the forums have done a good enough job not using that word for that reason. I am not trying to start drama, I am just trying to find a solution to stop this ongoing problem.
Also I don't CARE what kind of bashing and flaming and hate I'll get out of this thread. I am doing the right thing by standing up for what I think is right. EQUAL RIGHTS plzkthx. So go ahead and send me messages and comments if you don't like what I have to say.
Im ok with other people liking rape... just don't rape me, or anybody else who does not like rape. it can make a good roleplay through text... but IRL its illegal because its a form of assault, for good reason.
Ok with people liking rape? How could anyone LIKE rape? *does not compute*

liking rape ????? then it isn't RAPE... duuuuuuh.

This thread so far has received more reports than any other thread yet. Most are from people from different perspectives in this discussion asking for posts to be removed or censored.
However I won't remove posts for their content (unless they are against the rules of the forum) even if I personally feel they may be reprehensible.
I recognize that I myself can be biased towards one opinion or another and if I remove only things that I disagree with the forums will no longer be an open one.
Ember: god damn I hope you're sarcastic.
Velvet: it's the rapist who likes rape: it's a fetish for them. They don't particularly care if the victim likes it - in fact it probably excites them.
Psuedo-rape is different, there's consent involved therein.
I'm.. deeply offended, to be honest. I mean, I've gotten into some sick thing in my sex life (including psuedo-rape.)
but actual rape is a violation of a person. a VIOLATION of a human being.
There's nothing more I can say to that
and dammit, if you're trying to be funny you've failed.
I love you so much Ember. Please let me be the bearer of your children.
You cannot judge a person for how they are, it's what they do with how they are that makes the difference.
A person potentially could be biologically wired to do some abhorrent things. Whether or not they are able to channel those to the benefit or detriment of society is what makes them a good or bad person.
Causing unwanted and unwarranted harm to another is reprehensible in all cases, and should never be condoned.
On another thought.. is this what we are, what we want people to see?
When a new member comes to the boards, what are they going to be presented with when they enter our forums, with new eyes and hopefully an open mind? People joking about rape and trying to fight against being civil to the female gender.
Not only that, but what if media came in here, trying to get a picture of what we as a community are. Is this what we want to see? Is this what we want them to go out and report?
Really guys, I am appalled at what is going on here, just absolutely appalled.
Actions like these damage the community at large, and can have negative effects on things like events we manage.
Is civility such a horrible thing to ask for?
My biases are I am a straight guy and I do like females, but I am trying to see the other side of the coin and can't find a good reason for it. I mean, what is so terrible about being respectful?

First: Read this thread.
Second: Start reading the news.
Third: Learn some history, specifically about wars.
This is stupid. This thread was well-intentioned and could have achieved a positive outcome for all involved parties of all genders and orientations. But because a few individuals simply can't take anything seriously or can't be quiet when they have nothing useful to contribute, everybody is just getting angry at everybody else.
Is all this only applying to women on this forum?

Thank you for this. I think this is important.
This has become very embarrassing, honestly. There are way too many drama queens and trolls her for this thread to last, but it's a testament to the underlying fact that a) this forum is not nearly as nice or welcoming as MANY have tried to make it and b) sexism is alive and well in modern society, and thriving on the internet.
There's a huge difference between BCF and /b/ though, a lot of us know each other IRL. The anonymity is gone, or at least far reduced compared to the anon monster of the internet. There are a few furs who can hide, but I know who a lot of these names are, their faces, and even where they live. It's not hard to find, or contact these people and destroy the internet barrier. Also, a lot of these names and faces are going to be at events. Who wants to go to an event knowing they might meet the poster of such fine selections of forum discussion "vaginas are disease pits" or "stop the rapist hate". Not new people, not people who want to learn, not other women, not people who are genuinely curious. Cut that shit out and grow up. You are making us ALL look bad, because you want to be a fucking troll.
The females of this forum are not getting the fairness and respect they deserve on this forum, stop perpetuating the problem, man up, and appologize. You know who you are. Wrath, Dinsu, et al have far more balls then the lot of you spewing the hatred and bullshit.
Also, and this really pisses me off, rape is no joke. Cut that shit out. Rape is one of the worst crimes out there, and one of the many things that are truly horrible to subject another person too. Rape is real, occurs to both genders, and is a hell for the victim(s) in all cases.
There is such a concept as consensual non-consent, ie rape play, and it is a fetish. However it is NOT the same as condoning sexual assaults. I will not discuss that further in this thread. If you wish to know more about this topic, please PM me. Only serious PMs will be answered.
To the immature furs:
Thank you for making my thread look bad and making me look like the bad guy (girl) for starting this thead. I hope you're happy. I am a victim of rape. I will not tolerate rape jokes. Or sexist remarks. End of story.
@ Ember: Seriously- your post was the most disgusting thing I've ever read. Makes me think twice about involving myself with this community, which is a shame, because most of these cats are pretty cool. But anyone who thinks that "equal rights" applies to someone who desires to rape others is sick and twisted, and I won't have any part of a community that condones someone with that viewpoint. It may be the internet, but that doesn't mean you're safe to say 'I like rape' and basically admit to being a sex offender even if you're joking. Jokes like that get Police visits in the middle of the night.
I've dealt with victims of sexual assault (both male and female) in my professional life, and supported friends who've gone through it. Its not OK, its not a joke, its CERTAINLY not a right, and, short of murder, the most vile crime a human being can commit.
I'd like to stick around, help this group grow- furry fandom is a blast when its safe, legal, furry fun. But if this group is going to be OK with that sort of behaviour, I will take my business elsewhere.
@ Wrath: I fully support for you. It makes me sad that this is what I found when I went searching for an accepting community.
Thanks dude, I really appreciate it.
you know i've found one thing over all, making joke about people who are sexist is fine. actualy being that person is bad and easy to do. from now on i will post things that make fun of what a troll would say in
[Troll reaction = bad troll joke here] so that no feeling are hurt. my best friend is a girl and we have epic times, and we make these jokes all the time, like "Blair stop baking, or the feminists will make you get a desk job and suit"
um... i'm sorry i made a joke about rape... its just everyone seemed angry and i just wanted to lighten things up a bit, i didn't think it would offend anyone :(
Here is a little brain food, writen by a girl too, its about how boys and girls can better work with each other. im waiting to find one for men, but so far i've not found anything like that. this is just a girl talking about the way she feels girls are sexist towards men. it was interesting to read for sure.

THAT is actually funny. But its not a joke at females expense, its a joke at the expense of extremism. Which is a huuuge difference. Its funny to make fun of hateful extremists in order to highlight how absurd it is (See: The Daily Show etc.). Its never funny to be on the other side of the line, even with a caveat. I don't see the need to 'pretend' to be a troll... it doesn't help anyone.
Also, Chivalry should have died a long time ago... because chivalry IS sexist (seriously... it was a device created in the middle ages to disempower women).

Also, Chivalry should have died a long time ago... because chivalry IS sexist (seriously... it was a device created in the middle ages to disempower women).
...What? References, please? I'm not one to complain about chivalry being dead, probably because I'm lucky enough to have a very caring and thoughtful mate, but really?
Copied from wikipedia:
When examining medieval literature, chivalry can be classified into three basic but overlapping areas:
Duties to countrymen and fellow Christians: this contains virtues such as mercy, courage, valor, fairness, protection of the weak and the poor, and in the servant-hood of the knight to his lord. This also brings with it the idea of being willing to give one's life for another's; whether he would be giving his life for a poor man or his lord.
Duties to God: this would contain being faithful to God, protecting the innocent, being faithful to the church, being the champion of good against evil, being generous and obeying God above the feudal lord.
Duties to women: this is probably the most familiar aspect of chivalry. This would contain what is often called courtly love, the idea that the knight is to serve a lady, and after her all other ladies. Most especially in this category is a general gentleness and graciousness to all women. The only way I could see that as being demeaning in any way is constantly treating women like they're made of glass. But to be honest, it sounds more to me like it's sexist against men if anything, because essentially they're worshiping women. It has been my experience however, that chivalry creates more mutual respect. By offering the chivalry, the man is respecting the woman's femininity, and by accepting acts of chivalry, the woman is respecting the man's masculinity.
And lastly, chivalry is kind of the basis of general common decency. Just replace "woman" or "women" with "human" or mankind in general, and BAM! Common decency.
Its talking about how lots of girls place expectations on men in the wrong way, lots of men are looked down on for not being like girls and lots of girls talk about how "There are no good men" because instead of choosing an honest dump truck driver they marry a rich lawyer who will just cheat on them with the next hot blonde he sees. im not saying this to badmouth girls, im restating what is in the article writen by a woman. use of "chivalry" is merely representing the womans view on a man, and i still beleave in chivalry as being the man's duty to be kind and caring to the person he loves <3
i think that young men 16-40 are meant to be protectors for the village system as we are bigger and stronger on avarage, its just the way we we're built, its a primal urge like the mothers love for a child, or when you feel the urge to make love, its all just natural instinct built into us from the early years of our existance.
I feel that we (everyone including both genders) are all 20% instinct, 40% feelings, and 40% logic. its how i feel we are built, not to say i haven't met girls who act "Manly" or boys who act "Girly"
Ok so im guessing this thread is only directed to the women on this form. Which is how it should be, cause women in general can be just as bad as men, even worse.

...Whaa? What do you mean "directed at the women"? It's in defense of the women, from some hurtful comments that were being made in other threads. Originally. Now it's kind of turned into an equal rights argument/discussion about chivalry.
...Did you... read the whole thread? o_O
... Yes I....did. O_o

Women and Men can both be equality stupid, bitchy and right pain in the butts no matter where you go. Thats something everyone in their daily life has to deal with.
BOTH sexes get picked on, disgraced, and treated poorly by the other sex. Regardless if this thread was meant to be for just the females on this forum, it happens to everyone in daily life. A good lesson to learn is common decency. If people had more of this, or even a little bit of it at all, our forums, and the world, would be much easier to deal with.
For just this forum, we do have a lot of 'trolls' or people who cause drama because they can or don't know what tact is. People who cannot possibly put themselves in anothers shoes for a moment and say "Hey, this may have hurt their feelings or offended them." Then buck up and apologize. I mean everyone, myself included, has at some point in their life, said something they regret. If we work on a little common sense and tact, we'd have a lot less problems.
just figured i'd put in my two cents. lol.
Also, Wrath.. *hugs* regardless of the idiocy that happened a page or so back, this thread had a good purpose and i thank you for posting.
I wish people could think before they speak. You NEVER know who's been through what in their lives.

This is why academics don't accept Wikipedia as valid source material. Theres no historical context at all, nor does it delve into the issues behind the systematic implementation of chivalry etc.(like, the code of chivarly only applied to noble born women). The medieval scholar Georges Duby, for example, has some very insightful things to say on the topic. This is definitely not the place for this discussion, however... you an PM if you want to talk more about chivalry in context.
Also, it WAS treating women as if they were made of glass- weak, incapable and licentious beings who needed to be kept under lock and key by their man as much as possible to prevent them from destroying the carefully planned patriarchal power structure.

I admit, I do make my rape jokes... ALOT. But I make it clear that it's a joke, and I don't drag it on. And I only make these jokes towards my friends who won't get offended by it. And being a victim of rape, I know what extent of rape jokes are funny and what are not.
We furs get a lot of bombs thrown at us, but we just ignore it, cause we're better than regular people =3
The problem with the jokes made in this thread is that they are in poor taste, more looking like an attempt to be a troll than an attempt at humor.
Humor has always required two major factors when presenting it: timing and delivery. Both the timing and the delivery here are certainly off, therefore something that might be funny in another context is not here.
When people are expressing their conern that they are being marginalized, making jokes that marginalize them is only going to deepen the wound, it is just common sense.
Also, twisting the request to be on par with an extreme is also deepening the wound.
All in all, what has occured in this thread should be an eye-opener. A simple request for civility has brought out a deep and very ugly side to our community, one I dare say needs to be addressed if we are expected to grow or even remain a community.
As an analogy, when I first inquired about any vancouver groups I was greeted with a lot of negative comments about the local communities. I was told they were immature, that it was very clique oriented and that there was a lot of hostility. For a while I have been on the fence if those comments are actually true, but seeing this happen here, I am starting to find truth in what was said.
Van, every bigoted religious group, fascist political movement, and racist organization in history has said that. It's incredibly dangerous, irresponsible talk. Allow me to remind you of something here: You aren't furry, you're human. You aren't better than every human being on the planet simply owing to your own personal ideology or beliefs. You're human. Even footing. An elevating claim is dehumanizing only to the person making it, and not "dehumanizing" in the furry sense, either. Don't. It doesn't matter what direction the "Better than" is aimed in; you've completely missed the whole point of this thread. People simply want even treatment.
So then if we're not furry, why are we here?
Its called BC Furries, not BC regular Citizens.

We deal with this all the time in Otherkin land too... Even though many of us believe we have a non human soul, that doesn't make us any less human physically, nor better than anyone else. Same thing applies to gender. No one and nothing is inherently 'better' than anything or anyone else. It is our words and actions that ultimately determine our worth.
fox, you are a sexy beast
It's very reassuring to see at least a few of you understanding what I had intended. Thank you, Fox and Sevrin. The moment social stratification is hinted at is the first step on a path to segregation, bigotry, and ignorance.
oh stop it *blushes* here i was all afraid i said something stupid because i'm totally in troll mode right now, its what i get for spending the last several hours reading that FSTDT top 100 list
Furries are no better than everyone else. Just because you're a furry doesn't mean you're not human. You're just as human as everyone else.
For people who are retarded, and for people who post in a thread like this without first reading the rest of the posts:
Go back and read my post again. Then read the first post of this topic.
My post is a parody of the first post. You are not smart.
I am obviously not saying that rape is ok.
Dumb people are a much larger problem on this forum than mean people. This is a fact.

I have noticed the HUGE amount of anti-rapism on these forums. It seems that everywhere I look on here, all I ever see anymore is the non-raping furs calling the rapists gross because they have rape and a lack of consent.

It was obvious that you were parodying the OP. It still wasn't funny. It was a dick move. :C
I think that's why the previous conversations were about how rape jokes can be really inappropriate.. Like yours was. Unfortunately. ):
Considering several people took it that I was being serious, I would say that it wasn't obvious to everyone.
Now I'll tell you what a dick move is: Bringing up the topic of rape in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with it in an attempt to hamfist emotions where they don't belong.
Oh yeah one last thing.
I hope you realize the irony of using the word "dick move" to represent something bad, in a thread where you are against using sexual parts as having negative connotation.

ember, while I do agree with you, what you're doing right now is spreading more hostility, the drama in this thread died a long time ago, there's no reason to try and start more conflict.
Having been out of the country for the better part of the week, I've not been following the forums. I'd rather clarify this point now than have furs incapable of reading comprehension thinking that I was a rapist.
okay, you're not a rapist, we get it.
it was still inappropriate.
So?
so try and take things seriously
this isn't just some random forum for you to troll
you could always man up and apologize you know
or at the least drop the issue
Sorry I save apologies for problems that are real.

Precious! It's the icing on the cake.
okay ember yeah that makes sense, but isn't what i was talking about, what i was talking about is your negative hostile attitude, sometimes people need criticism or they don't realize what they are doing wrong, i agree, it doesn't change the fact that you're being a dick, there's no need to be so hostile.
[MOD]- Please keep on topic. :police:[/MOD]

i'm not saying its not a big deal, the joke was just me trying to lighten the mood a little
: Sevrin March 18, 2011, 02:14:06 -06:00
um... i'm sorry i made a joke about rape... its just everyone seemed angry and i just wanted to lighten things up a bit, i didn't think it would offend anyone :(
The only difference between my position and yours is that you felt the need to apologize when you caused no harm, and I did not.
Back on topic: Aside from a very small number of people on the forum making these remarks, was it ever really that large of a problem to start with? I never noticed these remarks everywhere but apparently that's because they were all in the forum games topic.
the thing is though that i understand how someone who has been raped, or knows someone who has been raped would be offended by it however, you don't seem to care... that being said i think there was a little bit of over reaction to it... i mean this IS the internet after all.
the only issue i ever had was the hostility of the females, the "us vs them" attitude they took, instead of just asking nicely they had to make a big deal about it.
See again you and I share a viewpoint on this issue. The "Us vs Them" attitude has a lot to do with what I posted.
Oh and apologizing would be hollow as I'm not going to change anything.
it may be the only difference we have in opinion on this matter is that you're dom and i'm sub
Mayhaps :)
Honestly, I don't see why this thread is even still around. Regardless of the OP's intention, all this has done is start pointless drama. There wasn't even a whole lot of sexist remarks going around. There's no reason at all to feel like men were degrading females with 'sexist' comments.

I don't know if you noticed or not, but RainRat has already said that the thread won't be closed at this time. I don't see the need to outright tell me that again once it has already been stated from officials. To be honest, I believe you just want to feel like you have some control over something. I feel it could be smilar to the reason why males feel the need to buy big trucks to compensate for something else that's small.
No, this is not a personal attack, just something I've noticed. If you'd like someone to talk to that has had absolutely no control over thier life up to a little over a year ago, I'd be glad to help in any way I can. I know what you're (probably) going through. Not just you, anyone that feels the need to talk about the shit that's bad in thier life, come talk to me about it. I've helped many people through bad points in thier lives, and I will continue to do so. I feel I'm a fairly decent counselor/therapist. :3
the other night when I was half asleep and browsing the forum, I thought this topic said stepping on females. I went WTF thats not right and reread it :P
I doubt anyone could help me with my personal problems.
And I'm not trying to feel like I'm in control of anything. I have the crappiest self esteem ever, and anything and everything doesn't seem to ever improve it. I don't know, maybe the help people give me isn't the kind of help I need for my problems. Trust me, I let people walk all over me on a daily basis.
Sometimes I need to stand up for what I think is right. But trust me, I feel like the most worthless being on the planet. So if you have a magical cure to treat my perpetual feeling of worthlessness, then I'll gladly take it from you free of charge.
I have a short temper though, so this thread was created out of my anger, because I couldn't stop thinking of the issues on these forums that bothered me. When something bothers me, it festers in my head til I get it out somehow. And this thread was born because of it.
Why not volunteer somewhere? I'm sure Community Critters could use you as a spotter or suiter if you have a suit. You can talk to RainRat for more info.
After a long day of volunteering, you feel exhausted, yet really good at the same time. It's kind of like just after you finished a hard workout.
i would offer you a hug wrath, but you live like 5 hours away <.< here have a virtual one
But this thread also reassured others who were feeling similar. So at the very least, you let others know that they're not the only ones bothered by that kind of behaviour. :) And for that, we love you, <3
I don't have a magic way of feeling worthless though, :\ sorry. If I find one I'll let you know.
This has been a issue/subject thats been around since like the beginning of the fandom. I honestly don't think a majority of gay guys go around going "vagina is nasty" though I did see this once sprout up on FA of all places (yeah say what you want, I still like FA)
Just a rule of thumb here.. a comparison if you will.. Remember back in school, those boys who had to act big and tough for fear of being called gay, the ones who had to go on about "my dady owns a hummer and I got a hot big boobed GF and I love hockey!" remember how that shit generally stopped once you got outta high-school?
Take that and mash it into its gay equivalent.. IE, all the insecure high-school gay boys (god fucking damn I hate myself for generalizing age here as its one of my 7 deadly sins *stabs face with soldering iron*) all the ones who have JUST started to find guys.. or maybe just gay furry stuff to their liking, they are the ones running around pushing it so hard and going "ewww vagina" because they are trying to act like they are some sorta seasoned gay guy and pretty much in this fandom.. yeah being gay is sorta par for the course or some shit.. I don't really know. But what I am getting at is the ones who are rampantly running around slandering fems and waving their dicks and asses around generally are the "new-gays" and the younger ones.. Im pretty sure I even had a phase like that when I was new and getting my bearings.
^ quite possibly the most sensible contribution to this thread by a guy. Thank you.

I don't own a fursuit. And volunteer work doesn't help with my problems. I've volunteered at a couple places, and yeah they were fun, but never fixed my problems in life. Thank you for your suggestion anyways.
Have yew tried gettin' laid? :3
i have to agree, sex does make everything seem that much less important for a few hours. It's actually known for keeping depression in check, XD
I already have a partner I can be sexually active with. It just doesn't happen much (Like once or twice a month) since we live in different cities and we both don't drive. And Translink doesn't run through Abbotsford.
You people make it sound like I don't have a sex life. Am I really that ugly?
Also I find it kinda weird to be suggested sex from people on a public forum.
i'm not sure why you would jump to the conclusion that they think you are ugly...
something you could try is smiling, even if you aren't happy, just force yourself to smile, do it for like a half hour and see how you feel, it works for me.
ooo wow, you do look on the dark side don't you? :/ Everyone has "dry spells" even super models. and as good as sex is, its not good for long term depression control, because it requires an almost inhuman amount of sex. Trust me, i know from experience, lol
for men its said that guys who masterbate at least twice a week are more active, happy, and less likely to have prostate issues. those effects minus the prostate health are probably the same for women.

Actually, masturbation has little to no medical benefits for women like it does for men. At least that is what I have read. I, for example, am just fine without.
.. although real sex would be great.
Actually Reistark is correct; the endorphins and other hormones released during orgasm in both men and women are beneficial to mental health. They help you sleep, calm anxieties and stress, etc.
Evidently, I chose a weird moment to poke my head back into BCFurries. I'm not going to comment on some of the negative issues sexuality can bring up; It's absolutely not something you should wholly base a relationship on, put it to you that way.

^This. :3
I whole heartedly agree.
On second thought, perhaps I should elaborate; It was one of the contributing factors to the loss of my marriage. Contact that managed to revolve around overt sexuality during the brief periods she and I were together, over the course of a long distance relationship. The "more" that was needed above and beyond simple sexual contact, didn't stand strongly enough to hold it together, among other factors. Absolutely nothing wrong with a healthy sex life, but it's part of overall health and good existence, not a means to it. That said, it's also a part of my life that's sorely absent at the moment, alas. Perhaps we should have a separate thread for this vein of discussion; We've wandered off on quite the tangent here.

^

I am of a proud pedigree, one who does not simply lay in his bed alone with the drink. That's the sort of thing the common animals in Surrey Central would do. ^-^
Also that fox fought dirty, poor kitty was just trying to defend himself from being sat on. :(
edit: Who the hell hijacked this topic anyways?
t'was the foxes, >:3 we're clever and mischievous like that. Well.. SOME of us anyway. the one's who aren't total cocksluts I guess.
Seriously, that's one of the main reasons I picked "fox" as my fursona. my other fursona's a cat. XD
See. just like me, a Kelpie chooses a partner to be mates forever with (That is a human). If the mate runs away, the Kelpie will curse them a dreadful life til they die.
I am choosey with my partners. I don't sleep around with random people. I only want people I have a strong emotional connection with.
^what she said.
It doesn't matter where you go, there's always going to be sexist remarks, even slight ones, especially on forum boards. Gay or not, women are always targeted the most. This is a thread about females and how a lot of females detest these kind of barbs, so gay male remarks don't count. :D
To be honest, it makes me laugh. Guys can take their best shot, but what I find even more entertaining is that when you shoot them down they immediately have to come back with something ignorant and/or arrogant. The one thing they can't seem to take, is being told to FUCK OFF, or the word NO. Or, their life is so pathetic that they have nothing better to do than belittle females because they can't have one for their own...maybe because of the shit attitude, perhaps. For many, it's their upbringing; the fatherly figure is a chauvinistic pig and they just follow good ol' Daddio. Now, I'm not referring to ALL guys. I know many guys who have read some of this shit and go WTF...I am embarrassed to be classified as a male with these morons. So to all of you girls who are disgusted with the childish diatribe that you see from the guys, laugh at them. Chances are, their best friend is their right hand and they are jealous that with one vagina we can get as many cocks as we want, while they sit in their bedrooms with a jar of Vaseline and their lonely, rejected cocks in hand. Next time one of them yaps off with something immature, think of them sitting alone, in their bedrooms with that jar of Vaseline, fantasizing about getting laid by some Sports Illustrated super swimsuit Model that everyone, including them, knows will NEVER happen...otherwise they wouldn't be wasting their precious seed all over their hand. Or, furry porn (or any porn, for that matter, including child porn >:( ). Don't be so hard on yourselves girls! You're dealing with a bunch of immature little boys who are still trying to figure out what that cock is for. ;D
You mad.
Me mad? Nah, LOL! ;D I'm just pointing out the obvious. ;D
Oh Taiga, you just made my day. *Hugs* As mean as it sounds, that's exactly what I think about when guys make rude remarks to me for being a female.
i don't think females are in any way below men... but jokes with friends are fun LOL as long as the other person knows you are kidding and don't actualy belleve the statement.
Glad I could be of assistance! :D Smells like servitude to me. :birdy:
