I just paid for registration, Giz. :)

I am hoping to buy myself a chainsaw before the summer begins, so I should be able to bring one, as well as my axe and shovel. I'll likely only be able to get up there on Friday evening, though.

Fucking stoked for camping this year! :D
NaEthOliX.

Call me Naetholix, Neox, Neo or Steve, I respond to all of them. =)

From a discussion between friends.

Does the OP know that charging the general public money to attend an event renders it no longer "a private event" by law and they can be sued by anyone for false advertising or discrimination through human rights court action?  Private event means private invitations to membership (word of mouth, cards handed to friends only, then money exchanged for right to passage) or requests for membership (screened applicants at the office, then money exchanged for admittance) (IE: Freemasonic membership).  No public bills are permitted to be posted for legal reasons.  (IE: You never see: "Join the Freemasons today!  Call us at 1-800-123-4567")  If someone is denied access to this event even though they have the cash in hand they can legally sue the owner and/or screeners for discrimination.  (IE: The meme: "STFU and take my money!")  It's legally no different than someone screening for 'blacks', 'homosexuals' or 'jewish people' at the door.  Best way around this law is to either not charge money what so ever (free) or tell guests to pay their own way (independent cash transfers) to the region and/or event or accept random amounts as 'donations', but never to set an exact 'charge' (price, cost, etc) and then post that fact PUBLICLY.  Yikes.  Double yikes!  High risk bad news for the founders and staff... possibly 'good news' for anyone with an axe to grind regarding these founders and staff.

My publicly posted events are always FREE and that way I can screen legally without prosecution by law.  (Personal gripes don't count in law).  If I wanted to charge money to attend my private events and still be able to discriminate against others for any reason what so ever (except those protected by human rights), I'd NEVER post them on a publicly seen website such as BCFurries.com, which is 100% Google searchable and archived world wide through services such as Archive.org .  Best let your friends know this.  Dang, perhaps I should since I'm here anyway.  No sense people getting sued over this needlessly.  :>

Note: The UBC law assistance society is there to help explain this matter more deeply at any time and there are other such services out there to help people render such matters accurately, either way.

Other than that legal glitch, sounds fun.  I shall consider.  My own private events come first though.  I love camping with friends.  :>  Nature is my favorite lover.

Edit: Scientology gets around their public screening methods through legally (coughs) becoming a "church" (coughs again).  Yes, legally, not morally, of course.  Then they can pretty much do whatever they want to you, even stalk your family and so forth with little retribution it seems (not that I want to suggest such, just sharing the truth of law regarding money for 'membership' and screening legally without getting sued).

this is my personal opinion and i am entitled to it.  prove me wrong by quoting the law books either in verse or section, sub-section and paragraph...........

something you may want to know.  even though a function says it is public there are usually signs that say we reserve the right to refuse admission for any reason.  some people have proven themselves to be not worthy to attend any functions due to past behaviour so they can be refused entry.

if you want to get technical, a charge for an event can be made provided something is received in turn such as food or product.  a political fundraiser charges money yet they can refuse entry to people.  other functions can charge money and restrict who is permitted to attend.  the PNE is a public event yet they charge admission to a public park.  a hockey game is a public event yet they charge.  try going to a Canucks game without paying and see how far you get.  what about the bar that charges an admission / cover fee?  do you get in for free?

you have lots of gall to come in here and make a statement like that then say you are interested in coming.  is that because you want free food while camping?  or are you gonna sue someone?

You realize that having posted said legal matter publicly on the forum for everyone to see all you have done is made problems for future events because there will always be that one jackass that is actually going to try and do something like this, and now it's been brought to they're attention

i said you have a lot of nerve (gall) to make the statement you did, and then suggest you want to attend.  i then asked a couple of questions as part of the discussion.

since you made this statement in the CampFur thread, in my opinion, you should have made it in private to the event organizer to let the organizer know the possible legal ramifications.

the cost is not for the campsite but for the food and a t-shirt if one chooses to pay that much.  should someone want to come up and enjoy the company of others then they are welcome to do so since, as you say, it is a public campsite.  but then they should also realize that they are not welcome in the food line.

there is a camp planned for those on the island and it was suggested a communal food menu for all to enjoy.  someone started up a 'legalese' discussion and, i believe, it has now been determined to be a feed yourself event.  not everyone has cooking equipment available to them so a communal feed would benefit all, but now that the 'legal' possibilities have been brought up nobody wants to participate in a communal feed.  sometimes a little knowledge spread to many, creates more problems than you think it is solving.

like xanitos says, now that you have made it public information, some jerk is gonna abuse this knowledge.  just my thoughts
