Need a place to rent in Vancouver by Feb 25th!

I'm moving to Vancouver on Feb 25th, but the apartment I was looking at fell through. Trying to rent internationally is a real pain, as no-one really wants to talk to you, and credit checks are impossible. I'd like to get a place to myself, but I'm happy to take a room in the short-term and look for something more permanent once I'm on the ground. I'll be working on UBC campus, so somewhere within commuting distance of there is essential.

I'm a full-time worker earning a decent wage, and I've 4+ years clean mortgage payments behind me that I can show proof of. I don't smoke, I'm a light drinker, and while I'm often awake odd hours, I know what a pair of headphones look like. I'm also bringing a cat along, so that might be an issue. She's the most affectionate cat you'll ever meet, though.

Anyone know of a place? Would be much appreciated.
