OK to give the news. 2 years ago BC was fighting to get this Holiday because the Rest of Canada HAS this holiday and BC did not. its Called "Family day"  we where Suppose to get this holiday LAST year but the BC Gov said No. that caused problems so they Corrected themselves and said it will be added 2013.

SO now instead of 3 months in a year that do not have holidays now only 2 months of the year do not have holidays.

Happy Family Day on Feb 11th

I honestly did not even know this was already a thing in other provinces.. that's actually kinda sad, BC seems to be the last for everything. We are the slow-poke of Canada I guess.

That's the tradeoff for existing on the other side of the country.  :-\

The good news is, at least we're away from Stephen Harper, so the nimby issue isn't as bad.

I'm glad for it because otherwise there's no holiday between XMas and Easter. 3 months is a tad long

If you don't have full-time work, you won't appreciate being able to have a day off with a full day's pay, or working on a statutory holiday and getting 1.5x your regular pay. I'm not complaining about having another holiday, but I know that this is just the Liberals gasping for air as their time in office starts coming to an end, trying to grab more votes.

Being that I work full time as well, another holiday is VERY welcomed. I could how ever, care less about the political pusher stuff that some people seem to be a bit too concerned about. A single holiday wont even win many votes with people any ways and I would rather focus on the fact of having an extra day to see people and hangout or even have some more time with my mate.

The PUBLIC demanded that we come in line with the rest of the country. The liberal party listened and instated the holiday. Not sure how that is a grab for votes. It took time to put it all in place as unions and general employers had to budget for the new holiday. The money doesn't just happen to appear.
