Tai do we seriously need to move stuff?

I don't get why you felt the need to move stuff around, this forum isn't exactly jammed with new topics every day. Both of the topics you moved had a place on the VI forum.

Half the reason to post on the Vancouver Island forum is to keep the thing alive so people will continue to check for new things.

I posted my commission completion as more of a show-and-tell, not a how-to-sew...

Well, to be fair, the VI subforum says it is for events... and showing off your fursuit isn't an event.

Kyroo, I understand where you're coming from, but I agree with Zenia. The mods try and keep this forum uniform, and if they move topics it's because they are placing them in their proper areas of the forum. the VI area is for meetups only, just like the Outside BC and Rest of the World. Everybody reads other topics, not just the meetups, and if you post them in their designated areas then more people will see them. :)

My reply wasn't about just mine, you also removed a meet up one posted by whovianart. I'll grant it was archivable, but jeeze it looks deserted in there. *Edit* The people finder topic posted by professor whovianart is missing also, which actually fits in the category of events by way of helping catalogue people in an area. *Close Edit* Why would the Vancouver Island forum be exclusively for meets anyway? that has most definitely not been the case in the past. We've had some great discussions there before.

If you're going to be that hardcore about moving threads based on that rule, I'd propose you create a general discussion section by geographical region. Because some of what we talk about isn't exclusively meet related as you are probably well aware. Being that there is not a great level of activity on the forums as is anyhow, a better plan would be to drop the "event" portion of the VI and Lower Mainland, and create an independent "events" section that serves both areas. This will increase traffic from both geographic regions and garner more attention to the events rather than having them split up. Simultaneously this affords the communities to have a geographical organized structure for general chit chat. All leading to less need for arduous moderation of the forums to pick and choose what stays and what goes.

Do what you will, I had a very hard time getting used to frequenting the forums, like many I've spoken with have in the past. I'm not really bothered by it if it's a big deal just as happy to return to my hobbit hole pop in monthly and only post when events that interest me come about. But I'd much rather have an active community of people to talk with. It seems on the Island you have to drag furs out kicking and screaming to get them to chat, let alone meet up  :P

I hate text for the reason that it probably sounds like I'm bitchy and mad, but truthfully, I only add my opinion to things that I want to make a difference to. I hold no ill feelings or even annoyance on this topic. I just think a few changes might help.

Either way, your board, your rules...

Tai has been doing a great job with sorting things out according to the organization scheme of the site - however it sounds to me like what you're asking for is for a sub-board for your area for general discussion.

If you can get a few more people from your area on board we can talk about a new organization structure for VI events/chat.

Crassadon

I agree that the Vancouver Island subforum has been a lot more than just about meetups, and is a place I often frequent.

yeah change it there everyone post shit randomly anyways make a place to post that random stuff

The island sub-forum was never that busy to begin with so while I can see why some people just want stuff "neet-und-tidy" having just islander topics wasn't hurting anyone or causing any mess. I agree with others that it was keeping the island section somewhat alive. If anything its more gaudy to see all those "MOVED" tags, personal preference though.

Unfortunately, it's not an island only problem, pretty much any area outside the 604 area code region is dead, comparatively speaking. In fact the only reason "rest of bc" section is any where near active is because of the fact it contains the Abbotsford and Chilliwack area, otherwise it would be as dead if not quieter than the island. If ol' "Abby" and "Chilli" got moved out of the "Rest of BC" section, I'm sure the situation would be repeating itself in that section too

Sorry Bigjonesb, I certainly didn't mean to neglect or imply that VI and lower mainland were the only ones pertinent here. They're just the only two I can speak somewhat informed on. I don't know much about the rest of BC section.

I never disagreed that Tai does a good job at organization, he's clearly very on top of things. I just think we need to tweak a few rules to make his job easier, and add activity to threads.

Also strongly agree with Drake's point that the "MOVED" tags are an eyesore.

No worries, was just saying anyone outside the 604 area code is affected with the fact that it's hard to get people from a given area to be more active on here. I know you were speaking about the subject you only knew about.

Well, it certainly does seem we have enough interest to entertain some talk about changes. What do you propose?

I don't want to post the topic improperly in the events section but it does seem appropriate that the thread be placed in the forum that it affects.

Yeah, we definitely need to find a way for smaller regions feel like they have a bigger presence here. It might get more people to come out of the woodwork in the smaller areas. In smaller cities like mine, about 80,000-90,000 pop, there's not alot of furries around to even talk to in real life. I would like to talk to some of the local people, but I don't want to start shooting off messages to all the locals, waiting for a reply.

I think if there were some way for small areas to feel bigger, it might even get more people, as it would make less a task to find some locals and who knows, might get some small city meets to take place. It's great to have a place like this to talk to everyone, but some face-to-face would nice, which is difficult when it seems like there's few, if anyone, nearby. I know a topic about furries in my city went quiet mid-last year, in fact, it got no response to it. Things like that can discourage people.

As I'm sure with anyone outside the Vancouver region can relate to, it's not easy to get people from your area to talk. If you look at most of the topics under Events for the regions of BC outside of Vancouver, they're not really events, but ways of trying to get the local furs to talk to them.

Thinking about it, the only thing I could think of, creating a regions section, and putting events, and a open forum under them, that  way, events could still be listed to the approriate region, but the open forum area would allow for region related topics like some new store opening up, not to be put under events, just to get conversation going. But again, it's only my idea.

Ahahahahaha --- The place we live currently has a population of 3,300.  The idea that 80-90k is small just made me quite amused.  :)
