Might be the wrong spot for this, mods please move if you like.

There's a bit of traffic on the VFUR mailing list lately, mostly some spam, but one point was made this morning that might be something to consider in regards to cross posting of information.

Apparently, some folks have no interest in using the forums for event information; when they first started there was discussion of event info being posted to the mailing list (at groups.yahoo.com/group/VFUR ) so as for those people who aren't interested in forums to get involved. Apparently the lack of this cross posting means, to some folks, that no events are taking place, at all. Which, this morning, resulted in some talking about "reviving" the dinnermeets and furmeets that, since they're not on the mailing list, obviously aren't happening.

Would it be a good idea for someone who's active here and there to try and cross post to at least alert the people who aren't on the forums regularly that there's discussion here? Or at least post final event info? (no, I'm not volunteering. =P )

we tired to cross post awhile back it worked for a few months then dropped off. It isnt all that hard to check the forum or even just click the calendar link which shows the majority of the schel events.

non-members cannot view the events listed on the calendar to see information, time, etc.

Though i do agree, its really not that hard to check the forums :/
But i do realize the ease of the emailing list for some. Specially those who might be out and about a lot and dont have time to search for events but have a phone that connects to email.

A person can just check the "Notify" box if they want to be notified via email about posts put in the events page. That way they don't have to come browse through the forum and instead can browse their email for the topic they want and updates on it as well. I have noticed a lot of people don't even know about the notify button, but those people are ones that don't use the forum.

Many of the people who are currently complaining about the lack of cross-posting to the mailing list are people who are perfectly capable of accessing the forum, and would not have to worry about mobile access issues. They are people who have, since its inception, disliked and spoken out against the use of the forum as a primary means of communication for the furry community in BC.

I'm not trying to disparage these people, nor am I trying to say that they don't have a right to know what's going on. However, if they are perfectly able to access the forum and simply choose not to, the lack of cross-posting is a non-issue. They have made a choice to remain in the dark about current events, and it is up to them to decide whether to stay there.

As the owner of the VFUR mailing list, if someone chooses to start cross-posting again, I won't prevent them from doing so. I don't want anyone to be actively prevented from knowing what's going on, but I don't think there is currently anything that should compel anyone here to find a way to accomplish this either.
