I'm in the hospital - health update

Hey, all! Vivian (Richelle) and I were gonna be hosting Games-night/Poker-night tonight at our place, but an emergency came up so we had to cancel, so I thought I would post here to update you guys so you know what's going on (and so I don't have to explain it individually to each and every one of you in real life :P ).

I have been having issues with chest pains the last couple days, and after Furry Sushi Tuesday, I awoke with a tight-chest feeling. Pills got rid of it, but, in the morning, it came back with a vengeance and I had to go to the hospital since my sternum was painfully tight. They ran tests, and figured out what it was not (heart stuff and whatnot), and they gave me a concoction for acid reflux after the pain had gone away. Since they didn't know what it was, they said it was Acid Reflux, and to deal with a GP or walk-in doctor next time it happens and let them know.

Day finished, went to bed. Woke up in the middle of night with an even worse feeling in my sternum. Soon called an ambulance, blood work was done this time at the hospital and they found in the tests that something wasn't right. I'm currently in the Cardiac section of the hospital, with inflammation of my heart muscles. The inflammation was causing the pressure on my chest and sternum, specifically. I'm currently about to take some happy-sleepy pill to go to bed and am going to do an angiograph tomorrow. An angiograph is a procedure where they stick a tube up your artery from your arm or leg and release iodine in your blood as they take x-rays. They want to know the extent of damage from the inflammation as well as the strength of my heart (ensuring it isn't weakened by this whole incident).

Either way, I'll let you guys know more when I know. I cannot wait to see you guys again at meetings. I should be out in a day or two. Sorry about not being able to host Games/Poker night, but I got a doctor's note. :P

Stay furry, and I'll see you next time.

Damn. I wish you well! I hope things turn out for the positive!

well, you had better save that note, or we might just not believe it.

if they`ll let her, vivian should ask to watch the monitor screen, as they put you thru the machine, so she can see things for herself, they usually do not show you the x-visions later (i knew much better what shape he was really in by that, much more than anything they explained).

my father had one of those tests after he had a major heart attack, to see what shape his arteries were in, the arteries light up like a christmas tree (amazing proceedure), only half of his were working, the rest had collapse or clogged up, and the bottom 20% of his heart muscle was permanently damaged.

my guess (for i am only a professor, and not a doctor) is that some plaque may have jossled loose causing your plumbing to plug up, if that`s the case, you`ll have to watch your diet, to clean out the surplus gunk in your arteries and prevent future plugging up (but this is only a guess)

it should all work out, and all the best thoughts coming your way  :)

Ouch.. hope things turn out. I'm very curious to know what results come back or anything. I've had something similar a few months back as well. Stress induced acid reflux I think. Its died down since though. Occasionally it would flare up if I get my heart going a little over regular. They did the whole electro scan and what not, even radiation injection and stress tests but said they couldn't find anything. All they gave me was pills to help with the reflux and I've run out since.

Any case.. hope they at least find out something that'll help ya out.

Oh my, and I thought you were merely tired last Tuesday. Honestly you didn't look at all well but I never imagined something so serious. Keep us updated lest hysteria sets in.  :(

I wish you all the best and get well soon. And like you said, "stay furry", for the best. ^_^

Okay, so last night, had another episode of chest pains. This fourth one was just as bad as my worst one (third), but I was in the hospital. Rang for nurses, and when they realised how much pain I was in, pumped a thing of morphine into my IV that had been previously unused. After 5-10 more minutes of writhing around in pain due to the morphine not working, they gave me gravol into my veins so I wouldn't feel nauseous from the morphine and injected another round of morphine. This time, the morphine actually worked, and as the pain faded totally away, it put me to sleep. The nurse was worries she gave me too much, so she checked up on me throughout the night, not that I remember any of the conversations she started with me (apparently I would pass out in the middle of them).

The morning was uneventful, then had a CT Scan. They injected dye into my IV and took pictures of my chest some more. The third and final injection/picture made me feel flush throughout my body as it travelled through.

That afternoon, I had my angiograph. Was worried it was gonna be through my leg, but the doctor decided to do it up my arm. So they gave me a mild sedative, stuck a needle and cathater into the artery roughly 3-4 inches up my wrist, fished the tube up my artery till it was in my heart, and released Iodine into my heart as they looked at it in real-time from several angles and took pictures. Then they pulled it out, put a bandage on it, and put a zack-strap on the bandage. I was told my heart looked healthy. I wasn't expected to move my arm at all for 3 hours. Then they took off the zack-strap and said don't move it much or use it to grab stuff (pretend its broken), and the bandage would come off tomorrow.

I saw the cardiologist and he told me that minimal samage was done to my heart (despite the fact that the chemical that everyone naturally puts out into their blood when they receive heart damage is usually around 0.04 when there is not damage, but mine was 17.0 - the equivalent of a heart attack). Since it was a virus that is affecting my heart, there are no exact drugs that can help me to rid me of it. Just good old time. They expect it to be gone from 2-3 days to a week. In the meantime I get a month's supply of beta-blockers and ace-inhibitors to help my heart with recovery, get to take tylenol for a few days to relieve pain and assist my heart, and receive more powerful drugs (like stuff with codine) if the episodes of EXTREME pain continue.

I'll be released tomorrow (could have left today, but wanted to stay since these episodes are excruciating, and I don't want to have an episode at home with only tylenol to combat the pain).

Cannot wait to see you guys soon! Remember Furry Sushi Tuesdays, and come out! We are changing the official start time to 8:00 from 8:30. If you want to come over early (after 5), just text or phone my cell: 604-788-4891

Love your faces, stay furry, and hope to see you there!

Heard that you are doing much better. Get some rest, and drink yourself up some clear chicken broth - for I hear that clear chicken soup aid in recovery.
