...get an avatar picture thingie to show up when I post to the forums?  I wanna have an image, too!

Depending on what skin you're using, it might be a bit different, but I'm using the default so I'll try to walk you through it.

There should be a bar on the left, just above where it says "Click here for the list of most recent posts."  Click on "Profile" in that bar.  Then, scroll down until you see three columns listed as "Profile Info," "Modify Profile," and "Actions," on the left side of the page.  Under the "Modify Profile" column, click on "Forum Profile Information."

Right off the bat, there should be three options for you to create an avatar.  One is to use a "Personalized Picture," which I believe is a picture stored on the forum itself.  Second is "I have my own pic," which you will need a URL of a .jpg/.gif file from the internet to link to.  Thirdly is "I will upload my own picture," which allows you to browse your PC's hard-drive for a picture you wish to use.  I think the maximum size is 150x150 pixels, and make sure it's rated PG. =)
