Stars change into Paws

So if you all haven't noticed, The stars which use to be under our names have now turned into paws.

So my question is, some people have 4 some have 6 others have 2 exc... Is it marked on rank or posts?
Can I possibly grow another paw all of a sudden?
I DON'T KNOW WHERE ALL THESE PAWS ARE COMING FROM. I'M A MUTANT. XD

OKay I dont understand it like is 5 black paws better than one gold or one gold one black or just one black like WTF!!! I am soooo confussed someone tell me!! I like the sound of elite but I think veterans higher but I really dont know hmmmm

My guess is that once you make X amount of posts and have achieved X amount of black paws, they are all combined into one golden paw.  This goes by judging the ratio of golden/black paws to the # of posts by the persons here.
