Generally I think if it weren't for certain peoples' signatures our literacy rating would probably go much higher. Besides, it's not like it's going to kill you to use proper English, is it? If you have the ability to spell words properly, then you probably should, because it's easier for people to understand when you type like a human being instead of a monkey on crack.

EDIT: Also,

I believe in some circles, they call that an "Oh SNAP". And Rei? Commandment one again, darling.

Lt ReiStark

A commandement eh? Break the word "commandment" down, and then look at the first part "Command". One cannot command themself, a statement that is also a command is always outward directed, therefore i am not commanded as i wrote it, however you are commanded.

You singlehandedly dragged our literacy rating down a whole percentage with your post.

A commandment is a command from a person of authority. I'm sorry, but I don't see any "admin" or "mod" buttons on your avatar or profile. So what authority do you have, exactly, to be commanding anything of other people? Here's a commandment for you; if you can't say something nice, then shut the hell up because no one else wants to listen to you.

maybe some of us prefer to type like monkeys! or wolves ;) or foxes, otters, horses, domestic dogs, cats (small or large) etc. lol

But seriously, I enjoy proper English over the now so common internet abbreviations, but I don't think that using them necessarily means that someone is illiterate. Perhaps lazy, or in a hurry and not a very proficient typer, but to say that we're illiterate because a number of us prefer to use a simpler(to many) form of communication is rather offensive, at least I find it so.
It's not the destination, but the journey that moves you. It's not the company, but the friends who inspire you. It's not what you've experienced, but what you've taken from those experiences that strengthens you. And it's not the one's who talk to you the most, but the one's who tell you the most, without speaking at all, that fill you with love.

Hey, google said it not me! I do use some internet abbreviations, such as "cuz" which is probably my favourite and most used. But I'm also willing to bet that the google thingy doesn't account for Canadian English, and is probably based entirely on American English. So every time some one spells it "colour" or "favourite" its considered wrong.

But still, its nice when people express themselves in proper language that's easy to understand. That's kind of why language developed in the first place; so we could understand each other. To deviate it to the point where it's not understood anymore, kind of defeats the purpose.
