Saw this while surfing and thought I'd share if there's anyone else interested in the series. Word is a release of November 2011.

VGA 10: Exclusive Debut Trailer HD - Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Anyone else been looking forward to seeing this finally announced?

I still need to give Oblivion another shot with a levelling mod. What I always hated about that game was the completely-flat difficulty curve.

I'll probably pick up Skyrim if it looks good, as I expect to have a new computer by then. I think the thing that's most put me off Bethesda games is their cavalier approach to QA, but I'm sure it'll still be fun even if it's packed to the gills with bugs like their stuff so often is. Fallout 3, for example, can have my child; I'm sure one of the first things I'll be picking up after I get my new computer is New Vegas.

How exciting.  :o

I absolutely loved Oblivion, I still haven't really done everything that there is to be done in the game.

I'd suggest giving the OblivionXP mod a try Silver. It was the one I used and it worked very well from my experience.

I'm also hoping Bethsheda will release this with less script bugs than New Vegas had, which they now finally fixed this week.

AWESOME!!!! now im stoked... but i need to wait a year O.=.o

But really?! how can i NOT be excited?  DRAGON BORN!! SHIT YA! XD

there is a place where you can set the difficulty to make it nigh impossible. set to 100%, i had a fight for my life with most highway men, and sometimes i would have to flee from any small group of bandits. i guess the problem is you have to set it yourself most of the time.

but yeah! skyrim! gonna get the preorder as soon as i can get the cash together.

One of the many reasons 2011 will be good for gaming.  I loved Daggerfall and Morrowind, but never got much into Oblivion.  I played a lot of Fallout 3, so I know the old engine and it's issues.  It was a good engine, but I am glad they are replacing it.

I will be much more excited when there are gameplay details and actual gameplay footage!  I am very curious to see what systems they use form old, what will be new, and how this will all fold together.

Yeah, I think that was the one I had recommended to me previously.

*nod* I'd just like to see a normal difficulty curve. Scaling mobs is a great idea in some ways, but I really don't feel like it was handled correctly in Oblivion; there needs to be a greater variety of relative mob difficulties.

I loved Morrowind... Oblivion was good... but it just felt so empty and dry compaired to morrowind. Sure, the map was huge, and it was crammed full of stuff, but it all felt like the same stuff, the world didn't feel nearly as real as Morrowind...

Maybe Skyrim will be better than Oblivion, or maybe it will be yet a bigger map with yet more of the same... Either way, I'll end up buyin it.

Yeah, I agree. Oblivion was prettier, but Morrowind was a better game.

Zetta

Do want.

to me oblivion was more a joke game than morrowind.
i beat the storyline, then just messed around killing people.
then got a glitchy spell mod that made people fall in on themselves and look like a floating mass of limbs that flailed about for no apparant reason.
..only problem with that spell was that if i hit anything bigger than a horse, the game froze.

Sounds like the new engine will be interesting. They are working on a better 3rd person mode which is good cuz the other games had crappy 3rd person. Why even give me the option to design my character if I never get to look at it? Anyway, the addition of a fallout-esque perk system will be a nice addition.

Dezo

I don't know if this is true but apparently there will be duel wield weapons.

Dinsu

I'm so excited that I pee a little every time I think about it. :-3

I've never played Morrowind, but I'm curious, what did it have that Oblivion lacked?
