Things to complain about

Takes me 3 hours to get to stars by bus, that doesn't stop me. If you're in maple ridge its gonna suck to get most places either way. Also my parents never drove me anywhere, I was lucky if I could get them to pay my bus fare.

Wereman

Not being able to pay the bus fare adds to the challenge, especially if you have to convince your parents for it.

We can be fortunate to have public translink. With the right attitude (though you can't always have it) the bus arrives when you need it. At least that has been my experience.

Trying to take the bus home from Superstore today: I texted the bus stop number, then realized I forgot my umbrella in Superstore, I quickly went and got it and when I got back all the people who had been waiting for the bus were gone (even though the bus wasn't supposed to come for another 3 minutes) so I waited for the bus, and it didn't come when it was supposed to... so I waited for the next bus, and THAT one didn't come when it was supposed to. I texted the bus stop number again, both busses had apparently passed me AND the one after them had been delayed 7 minutes... I kept waiting and texting for 50 minutes at that bus stop (this is bus 9, so it comes frequently) finally when I texted it one last time and it said no bus for 20 more minutes I was like fuck it I'm leaving and I went to take the train part way home... well 3 minutes later when I had got on the train, I saw the bus I wanted drive by the stop despite translink saying it would be another 20 minutes...

I'm sorry in advance, Rainrat, as this is going to strike home uncomfortably for some, but here goes:

Disclaimer: This is not directly related to any one post on the forums, it relates to a recent, disturbing trend.

My complaint today, is that some members of the community, have nothing better to do than commit character assassination against long-standing members who frankly, have been part of the party in some cases since before the younglings toddled out of primary school. Their sole fault is simply that they are passing into middle age or beyond. I'm aware that some of the older members of the community may somehow discomfort you, with their experience, wisdom, cultural age-gap and simply because in many cases, they've been alive twice your span. Their experience, and their cultural differences, alarm you. So what do you choose to do? Rather than making the mature choice to simply not associate, you smear them, you attack them, and make broad, sweeping assumptions about an entire class of people. This is as disgusting and unacceptable as attacking an Indo-Canadian, a Vietnamese-Canadian or any number of racial/cultural groups simply because they're "strange", or "don't fit in".

Not only is this the height of crass and despicable behavior, it's equally as much bigotry as homophobic nonsense, sexism, or racism. Age is also a protected class under the Charter of Rights, need I remind you, because like sex, race, or arguably sexual orientation, you cannot choose your age. Being judged and slandered simply for having progressed through the course of a natural human lifespan is despicable, and you should be ashamed of yourselves. The individuals in question know who they are, they have caused respected, loved members of the community like Gizmo, Coal, and Tokar a great deal of consternation, and they must know, that this behavior is unacceptable.

I've said my piece. I'm annoyed with having to sit on both sides of the fence, watching individuals both ten years younger than me, and ten years older, unable to cohabit the same community without someone, somewhere, slinging an idiotic barb. In ten more years, I will be one of those "creepy old people" by the standards of the younglings here, and in ten more, the younglings will be at my seat on the fence, wondering why they didn't see it before they themselves end up in the path of that train themselves. Fix the attitude, it sucks!

I agree with you Selkit. This association of yours and your reference to our Charter of Rights hits the issue on the spot. I have talked and mingled in with older members of the community, and I have the respect and spiritual faith in them with respect to our community. They do not deserve this derogatory flak at all.

Impressive statement you made here Selkit, I praise you for making this statement.

It is regretful that this is going on, yet I have a hard time to fathom that younger individuals would attack individuals twice their age or even more. We may have different viewpoints or have more experience in one area such as technology or knowing people's behavior, yet as we know this is no reason to disrespect one another.

Learn and understand a person before you make a certain assumption, even though I caught myself the other day doing so.

I'm having some major problems getting along with my parents right now, and from what I'm seeing, if I can't come up with a high-enough paying job to be able to move out, it's only going to get worse.

My parents only seem to be interested in being right, not actually solving the problems at hand, and are extremely vehement when confronted.

The usual defense I have is to stay in my room until "needed", or until I have a reason to go out, and avoid all kinds of hot buttons with them.

The problem comes in when they hit them themselves and won't allow for other points of view.
It's exactly like they only see me as a little kid, not the 28-year-old person attempting to be an adult that I am now.

It's very emotionally debilitating some days... =>.<=

28 and still live with your parents? Your parents are not the bad guys.

Get a life. Move out.

If you're mentally disabled in some way I appologize

Ember

You know what? Even with my usual levels of dickishness I'm not going to leave it there...

Parents have children so that they'll have someone to financially take care of them in old age if they need it. The average child costs almost $250,000 to raise to the age of 18 in Canada. What you've done is leech off them to an extent that you've cost them much, much more... How hard is it to get a minimum wage job? You've fucked up your parent's retirement fund enough already.

You represent something worse than a bad child... You're a bad investment.

Get your shit together. Get a job. Move the hell out.

Try being emotionally whipped by your own parents.

Try being a man instead of a child. You might like it.

Actually, the big problem is depression.
Everything sort of feeds into it, and it just sucks all my effort out of me.

At this point most of the things I would want to say about you would get me warned by the mods for personal attacks so I'll duck out.

Get a job.

Stop being a loser.

You don't have bigger problems in life than others, you just suck at handling them.

RainRat

[admin]Ember, this is warning #2 for personal attacks. Just a reminder, personal attacks aren't just "You're a ___!". No matter how roundabout you're stating them, that isn't the level of discourse we allow. This isn't meant to restrict discussion, like questioning assumptions that furries take for granted, or pointing out that a specific course of action is not a good idea. I think you know the difference Ember. [/admin]
