Just wondering if anyone is going to go see the new Peter Jackson movie DISTRICT 9?
It looks pretty sweet from what I've seen so far.

It looks intriguing, and the early reviews I'm hearing are pretty good. the whole parallel to Apartheid could play out very well. I'll be seeing it at some point.

it was an amazing movie.  in my opinion it lived up to its hype.  if you like movies with aliens that has a metaphorical tie to real life go see it!!

Wyrd-Hotd

Awesome movie!!  And I agree with you WYRD-HOTD, I really hope they make a second.  They almost have to.  But it won't be until after the Hobbit 1 and 2.  But this was fantastic.

well personally, to me district nine doesn't seem to be the type of movie that demands a sequel they've left themselves. The movie successfully goes through the motions of closure at the end, and for what it doesn't the imagery used leaves the viewer with enough information to put together what would happen. The movie itself asks a lot of questions and i feel that a sequel would ruin any depth that it has. To create a sequel would turn the movie that uses aliens as a metaphor to describe some issues in today's world that aren't far from home, into meaningless drivel like just about every other Hollywood blockbuster this summer.  not to mention there wasn't really a cliffhanger, the ending just provided confirmation as to what has happened to the protagonist and that everything will end up played out happily (hypothetically and eventually). That's what they director was trying to achieve, were meant to wonder and use our imagination.

As for the movie itself here's my two cents.  This movie is art that braces itself perfectly for a 21st century audience with little taste for dialogue, and yet still manages to ask questions. It's hard to believe this rose from the ashes of what surely would have been a god awful halo movie, using left over budget and based and expanded from a short film Blomkamp made previously. Niel Blomkamp who also was part of Cloverfield (director i think but not sure) has set the film up again with a very sort of handi-cam/bourne series style, especially with the beginning and end having been set up like a documentary. despite its small budget, District nine will literally blow the crap out of you with its believable and stunning effects, especially when the alien weaponry starts being unleashed. It literally has something for close to everyone, and manages to have tons of gritty, hardcore action and violence while maintaining characters that actually have some depth to them, again unlike any of the mainstream blockbusters released ( I.E: GI-JOE, star trek, transformers 2, HP 6); to summarize you actually have feelings for the characters.  and if good writing and acting, interesting characters and actually thinking don't attract you, well you're in luck because there's enough explosions of bodies or otherwise to keep your eyes practically glued to the screen until the end.
