Fashion advice for a fellow furry?

Furries seem to be the only unjudgmental people I can talk to nowadays... So, I guess I'll bring up my fashion dilemma here...

Do not read on if you don't want to read about fashion troubles.

So, I'm about 6'1, dark brown long, thick, wavey hair and skinny. I usually wear a hoodie and a short scarf that barely wraps around my neck (so I just drape it over).

But, I wan to change up my style and have no idea if it'll look good or not. Here's where you come in, oh thankful reader!
http://imgur.com/8JQmX <-- That link-- disregarding the otterness of it-- is basically what style I want. That kind of jacket with some sort of shirt underneath, and that awesome style of scarf, along with jeans. If I do do this, I'll (hopefully) get my hair thinned out and dyed black and red (highlights). Do you think a lanky person like me could pull that look off, or would I just look silly?
Also, what kind of shirt do I wear under the jacket, and what type of jacket is that?

Thanks in advance, I love you all who are answering or even taking the time to read this right now. :)

Now I'm not the fashion police and I believe that people should wear what they feel comfortable wearing no matter how weird and so on, but each body type can be complimented nicely if you pick the right clothing. :3

Now you said you're tall and thin, I'm not sure how thin that is but here's some advice for that kind of body type:

  • Avoid wearing really tight or baggy shirts/tops, you want them to be slightly fitted.
  • Stick to straight leg or slim-fit boot cut jeans and horizontal striping on the thighs can give the illusion of bigger thighs.
  • Avoid vertical stripes and solid blacks (or other dark colours), this can make you appear even thinner then you already are.

Now those are just the common things that kept popping up while I was looking around, so you can look at these links if you want more details: Dress your Body Type: Skinny, Yahoo How to Dress, What to War & Clothing for Tall Men.

I would give more details about the exact type and colour of clothing that would be good, but I'm not really all that good at that kind of thing. XDD

I think it'll look really good. Not sure about style names for the wear. With black or dark blue jeans, I'd go for a basic white T. The jacket and scarf makes me think of 70's bikers. White would also work with any color of scarf, while not being vibrant enough to pull attention from your colorful highlights.

A problem I see with that jacket, is that the material and cut looks really high maintanence. Just because you're wearing stylish clothing doesn't you mean don't look like a slob. Hang it, Iron, if it shinks it's basically done for.

What kind of attitude do you take torwards your clothing? Want something casual to relax in or something to show off?

Thrift Stores are great for trying out new looks.

Heh, yeah. I see people that know and work with their style... And then there's me. x3

Those are some good tips that I'll be sure to keep in mind as I shop for my new look. I hope the jacket I want isn't too tight or short fitting... Baggy is better! ;)

I'll have to check those links out when I'm not in school, but they look promising! Thankee!

You gave what you could and that's what matters, hon. Thankee kindly.

I had an original idea of just some random teeshirt or something with an image or text, but I could see a plain teeshirt working as well.

If I do end up doing this, I'll make sure to take care of it. :D

Kind of something to look good in, not really do sports in but more of a relax and just smiley, happy kind of look.

I may have to take a trip to one soon.. ;)

Yesss, thrift stores are definitely the way to go. You never know what you'll find in them, and if you don't find anything you like one day, the next time you go to one you're sure to find things you'll like a lot. :D

Cynder

Yeah, that's the awesome part about it! :D
I think I'll check out Value village first, maybe after that, head over to Mayfair... Anyone know a good quality (but cheap) clothing store around Saanich?

Yeah I'd say that that pic is pretty "hip" style wise, Value Village by Capital Iron (downtown Vic http://www.shopinvictoria.com/Value-Village/3189.htm) is a GREAT place to go if you're looking for some cool stuff. I'd recommend not dying your hair black though, it tends to come out looking not quite right.

Black is one of those weird "colours". I suggest that when you go in to get a new hairstyle to talk with your hairdresser (make sure they're an experienced one) and try to figure out a hairstyle and colour that would best compliment your face shape. They know their stuff, so don't be afraid to ask.

Also, Winners is a great place to find cool clothing. I shop there because I'm a cheap bastard

Cynder

Ooo, alrighty. I'll make sure to check Winners first-- I have a weird disliking of value village. But after that, hair dresser!^^

Think first choice would be 'high quality' enough to ask?

Also, last question, hehe. Anyone know of where I could get a spacious, but stylishly themed messenger bag/one shoulder bag?
I've got quite a few text books and school books... But messenger bag would-- in my eyes-- make the outfit. ^^;;

Thanks again, everyone!

Shopping online would be the way to go for that one

tokar

check luggage shops at the mall.  the store that i bought my bag at was called bentley.  you might get lucky at winners.
if you have a zeller's that hasn't closed, rush over there.  they are closing and becoming a target store, so there will be many deals to be had.  if it isn't on sale now, ask the manager to discount it before the closing sale.

good luck.
1 ton truck available for hire.  contact me by personal message for info

Cynder

When I go out (probably tomorrow), I'll check through Winners and Bentley and everything. *Crosses fingers* Let's hope it turns out for the best. ^^
