Mac computer setup

once again i have to ask for computer help.  another friend has a mac computer and we know nothing about them.  i seek assistance in the setup and basic operation.  this unit seems able to run windows programs as well as mac. (tried to install a windows disc and it read the files on this disc)

can you help me get this setup properly for them to use.  i was told that with the computer they have now it takes them ten minutes to send and email and it is impossible to get onto facebook.  once the mac is working they will take a class to learn how to use it more to its capability.

i managed to get it to boot up using a windows keyboard and mouse.
