Ps: pokemon fans, Digimon was first invented in 1882 for a sci fi magazine as a short story, so pokemon is the rip off >o< the games are better though, digimon got mostly sub-par games.

I didn't realize they had sci-fi magazines in 1882. Particularly ones dealing with "digital" as we know it now. That's some writer. I bet everyone thought he was crazy.

seriously though, i don't think either one is a rip off of the other; digimon deals with monsters living in a digital world that evolve temporarily; Pokemon is a whole other universe. If anything, Monster Rancher was the rip off of BOTH of them. Stupid monster rancher... Also, every reference I can find to "digimon short story" referes to Digimon Tamers 1984, which was a short story written for a sci-fi magazine. It wasn't written in 1984, however, it took place in 1984. Which means pokemon came first.
