Because I do not want to be here under false pretenses I want to tell everyone that I do not concider myself  a furry but I am currious about  this "fetish" for want of a better word. I had never concidered that wearing costumes was a fetish until I read about it in another forum and it intrigued me because ai have always loved dressing up  in animal costumes (among other) where my identity was secret and I could "entertain". I have been a ONe -eyed One horned flying purple people eater, a cow, a huge sunflower-all for carnivals and kids birthday parties- The idea of being a mascott is fun but I never equated that with the sexual activities recently being brought to my attention via shows like CSI, and in the other forum I am part of. This is why I have joined this group-to get a better understanding. I hope this is acceptable but if it is not I accept being removed from the group. Please be assured I have no preconceived judgements. I am not here to make fun or be rude I only want to learn.

OH and one of the things I am currious about and really don't understand is the anger and distain I have read about towards Furries. Where does this come from-do any of you experience this?

When it comes to the furry fandom there are so many people that have different views upon it yet all follow one distinct similiarity which is idolizing a anthropomorphic character or showing you like em and such.
The way i see into the fur fandom is by 3 views...

1. I am deep into the psychology bit or interested in it and find animals and humans both think alike showing similar instinctive behaviors and patterns and being part of the fur fandom helps me educate myself upon learning all sorts of animal species and how they intrigue others so much.

2. I am very spiritual towards the fox... I believe the fox is my spiritual guide leading me to freedom and eternal happiness... ever since i came across one almost immediately i felt a strange bond. I began to realize i share most characteristic as a fox myself psychologically the way i act and such... pretty much i idolize and worship the fox and the fandom helps me in away get close to them foxes to feel that freedom and happiness

and

3. The way i see life or reality can be over dramatic and well... scary.. Lets face it no one wants to wake up to this reality and deal with the stress and depression or know the fact that one day you will eventually die and death is another scary truth of life.... so.... why not have the most fun of it while we are here... life is a cartoon it has its ups and downs but we all rely on the ups for most parts it helps us keep sane. Some choose to do drugs, drink alcohol, exercise, work at a desired job ect.. the furry fandom is just one of those outlets where you can have fun and be silly meeting other people who are the same showing similiar interests.

i dont think the furry fandom should always be targetted in media when we have similiar things like the anime fandom and such there are alot of subcultures out there as weird or silly as they can be they help us entertain ourselves and just have fun and enjoy the best qualities of what life has to offer.
Those are just my views upon the fandom.. I hope this helps you come to some understanding about the fur fandom.

Furry is just a love of the idea of animals that walk and talk like a human, it can extend to art, movies, writing, roleplay, cosplay, anime, or be a fetish in some cases.

i like the idea of this being a surperior image to have, i feel like i was born into the wrong universe because im a human, im more atracted to picture of furries than humans. i opt to the infanite universe theory where everything you can imagine x100000000000000000 exists in another universe in some form, and i think there is a world where people are anthros, and there is a fox on "BChumans" wishing he was me as he writes an almost identical post to FlyingPurpleFurriesEater about this.

that just me and my reason for being a furry, lots of people just think the art is cool, some beleve they are animals trapped in human bodies, and some like to ruin 1000$ fursuits in bed by... showing each other their glow in the dark watches... yeah thats it... nothing naughty.

I'd also like to bring up the one case for having furry yiff (porn) i may not be 100 percent true on this but most common views ive heard from other furries and including myself to why we have that in the fandom is because as humans we like to fantasize alot and most people sleeping with someone else and doing the naughties has most likely fantasized over there partners to help... its not really a bad thing for it because its what helps contribute to maintaining a healthy relationship.
Also the fact that cartoon porn in general is alot cleaner than it really is in reality which can be a turn off to most people which is why people would find cartoon porn more enjoyable and not that the furry is the onely one that partakes in this i mean we still have hentai and yaoi and others lol
the fursuiting in bed bit is just one of those fantasies some people enjoy and fursuits helps kinda bring that visualization out more so its more enjoyable and you dont have to think of 2 things at a time fantasy and sex lol

It's cause if you call it a life style rather than a fetish, then grumpy insecure people who have blueballs get all butthurt and decide to troll people.

People fear change, we furries embrace it.

I like dressing up in general. Ive always loved Halloween. I do fursuit. It's pretty fun.
It's not a fetish for me. I also like preforming arts and theater costumes. Also movie costumes.
I'm also a nut for props. haha.

Welcome to the forums.

"Fandom", please.   The furry fandom is a community of individuals who feel a sort of emotional connection with animals.   Many adopt an animal-based character to represent themselves to the group, some going further to identify with their characters.  "Fetish" indicates something sexual, which is not the defining characteristic of the group.

> I have always loved dressing up  in animal costumes (among other) where my identity was secret and I could "entertain".

This is the same reason that most furry costumers have for dressing up in their costumes.  They can go "in   character", put on a performance and entertain an audience.  The character is usually one they created for themselves, and it's largely an improvised role playing act.

> The idea of being a mascott is fun but I never equated that with the sexual activities recently being brought to my attention via shows like CSI,

CSI is fiction.  The "Fur and Loathing in Las Vegas" episode mixes some elements of truth (there are furry conventions, some people in the furry fandom have and wear costumes) with fantasy that makes for a good story.
The "drama" at a furry convention is more likely to involve the elevators breaking down, and people falling down stairs, than what the CSI episode depicted.

Well, the bcfurries forums are open to the public for anyone to join.  Just realize that it is largely a local resource for a group who mostly know each other in person to plan activities, engage in casual conversation, and have fun.

Thanks for the replies. To spuug: I was not certain of the format for this forum I see now it is as you say for people who basicly know each other  to meet and talk. Thank you for your reply it was most helpful in my gaining an understanding. I know that CSI is indeed fantacy it was also my first introduction to the concept of the furry fandom and yiffing. I realized that it was only a very slanted glimps as to what the true  furry fandom was about. It wasn't until I read some very negative attacks toward furries that I started to look into the whole thing.

Trekie and Anime fans get their share of teasing and such but I felt that the derogatory coments toward the furries seemed to have a deeper more malicious undertone that that toward the former. As I said I don't understand it-am I maybe reading too much into it?

Choco

what got me into being a furry was the art style behind it (whether it be clean or naughty) after viewing sites like Deviantart, VCL, Furaffinity etc whether it would be art, story writing, RPing it helps to add creativity and an understanding of that species in the Furry Fandom

also when looking at the many species out there I find that my Personally fits that of a wolf granted yes there are people way more into it you can say then others

In any case welcome to the forums
