I'm building my own partial fursuit and so far have completed the tail (minus the custom airbrushing), and started the head and handpaws. My handpaws are made with 1-1.5" long fur and extend up to shoulders. I've got the pads all done, but ran into abit of a snag with the claws. I was gonna use polymer based modeling clay, painted to the appropriate colour using acrylic paint but i am not sure if a primer should be used bfr paint is applied, or if a sealer will help the claws maintain the colouring after. Also, was wondering if anyone knows a good method to attach the claws to the paws, as only idea i've been able to come up with is hot glue, but that likely won't hold very well. TY in advance to anyone with ideas.

You can use a couple methods.

1. Scrape the backs, rough them up, and don't seal them in that area. Glue will stick to the rough patch easier.

2. Make a little 'handle' that pokes through the glove and seal it from the reverse.

3. Drill little holes through the claws, and sew them in after gluing for reinforcement.

for my claws i used a pre-coloured polymer clay so that i wouldn't have to paint them, scored the backs, and then glued them on. for a glossy finish you can also paint over the claws with nail-polish. it works very well.

as for attaching the claws, make sure you've scored the back (made it rough), and that you've trimmed the fur on the ends where you want the claws glued (otherwise you'll end up with wiggly claws that aren't very well attached and may fall off).

i used an industrial-strength silicon adhesive to attach my claws. so far it's worked and held up well (six months), and i don't foresee any problems.

hope that helps!
