For the record, my last relationship was with a girl and even though it was few years ago it still stings.  Just...such a sense of loss there.  I'm not looking for anything, but who knows.  Maybe something will catch me off guard one of these days : /

I wouldn't call it a derogatory term. I don't take offence to the male version of the term, so I don't see why females should either.

If you are not a lesbian, you have no say on what terms are considered offensive to lesbians.  I'm sure there are some lesbians who don't find it offensive either; I *really* don't like the term and I know I'm not the only one.  It is not a reclaimed word, like most of the male equivalents.
