Photographic outings?

This is just a feeler rather than anything specific at the moment, but would anyone else be interested in getting out somewhere and taking photos sometime? I've been really lazy re: photography lately and feel like I need a (metaphorical) kick in the butt.

Photography, Hmmm. I just got my camera back after 6 months, I could use a little practice again and an outing.

I could go for that sometime. Anyone else?

I've gotta get Olympus to repair my flash (or, more likely, send me a refurb/new replacement, since mine isn't firing at all and has a broken retention ring), but depending on the outing I may not need it, I suppose.

I have a low end Pentax digital myself. Been taking pictures a bit more liberal these days from how I used to be. Then again I've kind of roamed around occasionally for such occasions. I have a tripod but it's a bit old. Still works though.

Sending my flash off tomorrow, but God knows how long it'll take Olympus to repair/replace it, of course.

I've just got the 14-54 for my E-1 right now. I need to pick up a 70-300 as well.

How did I miss this thread??

I'd be into this. I was actually going to suggest a birding trip, maybe in March when we start seeing some of the migratory birds coming in. Reifel Island's a great spot for easy photos - it's a $5 entry fee for non-members but the money goes back into the facility. Other than that, I'd be good with random trips too.

I'd like doing that. Where is Reifel's Island?

I was wondering when you'd pop in here!

I'm down. I'd probably rent a lens for that; I don't think I'll get too many good bird pictures with my 14-54... :)

We could do some other random stuff like... I dunno, Vanier Park, Stanley Park, Lighthouse Point, downtown for architecture stuff... there are certainly possibilities.

Maybe when the days get a little longer you and I could get together some day after work and just do Fraser Foreshore, given the convenient location.

Reifel Island is west of Ladner.

I've been thinking of taking another course at Focal Point sometime to get myself charged up again. I took their Basic and Intermediate Photography courses a few years ago. I think my main roadblock to doing more photography is that I find digital post-processing staggeringly dull, so I need to figure out how to streamline that process.

Ah the bird sanctuary at the northwest end of Westham Island. I've been meaning to go back to the island itself and take some pictures for a project of mine. A sort of "Not so well known highlights of the lower Mainland".

You'll have to give me an intro to post-processing some time. I've not really touched it at all save for image stitching. Other than that, I've been just using mostly raw images from outdoors that I've taken.

You haven't been to Reifel with a bag of seed, have you?  ;D

Stanley Park is a great option, too, and easier to get to. I was out there on Saturday and got some nice shots around Lost Lagoon. I need to get out to Jericho and Vanier sometime as well - apparently they have all kinds of critters in the ponds at Jericho.

Good idea!

Now's a good time if you've got some long lenses - there's a Northern Hawk Owl that's been hanging out right along the road. It's very congenial... (wish that was my shot!)

I'm probably not the best person for that - I avoid it whenever possible. I just know how to do a little dust removal, levels/curves, and unsharp mask.

I'd definitely be down for Jericho as well, yeah.
