I'm free! XD

For those that didn't know, I ended up getting admitted to the hospital this past Friday morning with severe abdominal pain; I'd been dealing with what they thought may have been an ulcer, then gastritis, for months, taking acid blockers and such.  Went back to the clinic when it was obvious it was getting worse, and he thought it was my appendix!  Quick note and rush to Surrey Memorial, CT scan, all that fun stuff...

Turns out my appendix is fine, but I have an abscess right beside it in my ileum - where my small intestine connects to the large one.  I had another abscess further down in my guts a few years ago, and issues with food ever since I was about 14 - throwing up after going out for fast food, constant nausea, etc. that I attributed to my diet, and to a lesser extent, to dairy.  However, with all this, they believe I likely have Chron's. :(

That said, they made the decision not to operate, as it was only about 2.5cm diametre, and instead pumped me full of multiple antibiotics and steroids over the course of the last week, all by IV - meaning I'd been stuck in the hospital, tethering my phone's 500MB/mo 3G plan to my laptop, and living with text chat, magazines, Minecraft, and DVDs my family brought me. XD  They were very accommodating of my (nigh-)veganism, bringing me soymilk instead of dairy for my coffee and tea (I'm allowed to have caffeine again! I'd been told to do without for the past 3 months.. D:), vegan meals (though I had to overlook the minuscule amounts of dairy in the margarine), and even sent up a student dietitian to talk to me about my diet.  Apparently I'm one of the very very few people she's seen who have gone vegetarian or vegan, and actually had their bloodwork consistently come back perfect - no vitamin deficiencies, even good protein levels. n_n

I got out late last night, a week earlier than expected since my blood tests for the previous 3 days all came back normal and I hadn't needed any morphine or gravol for about the same time (though don't get me wrong - I'm still really sore; just not omgneedmorphine sore), and am on oral meds - something like 14 pills a day at this point (mostly because I need 40mg of prednisone and it's in teeny-tiny 5mg pills @.x; - then 35mg next week, 30mg the week after, on a tapered dose).  Follow-up in 2 weeks and a colonoscopy (fun! D:) after that, and hopefully we can determine if I do have an underlying disease/disorder that caused this to flare up in the first place.  At this point I'll be glad to pin it down on something, even if it is Chron's.

To all of you who kept me company on IM or otherwise over the past week, thank you. n_n  I hope to make it by for bowling tomorrow night after work to just say hi, and I look forward to doing things like help Akonite run some kickin' dances, and maybe even start playing gigs with a 3/4 furry band if things go well. XD

I'm happy they managed to disconnect me, wrap my arm, and let me home for a few hours that one time so I could shower. XD

Wow it's great that they were so cool about veganism! Back in Sask where I come from that kind of thing is unheard of!

Makes me a lot more comfortable about having to do hospital time, that's for sure.. Despite the whey in the margarine >.<
Glad to see another healthy vegan! A true testament to the possibilities of alternative diets.

You should try making green juices if you don't already. They really are known to help with compromised digestive tracts! Let me know and I can hook you up with some resources. <3

Congrats on making it through alive! :3

It's not lupus.

Other than that, glad to hear you are getting better and that they are doing something!  Crohns would suck, but I hope they get it nailed down to something so they can treat the problem, and not just the symptoms.

Awwe that sucks that you've been dealing with health problems and having to go to the hospital. Hopefully you've been feeling okay. At least you had MINECRAFT! The creepers didn't give you a hard time did they?

Thanks - and actually, you know what - of all the things I've been focusing on (beans, tofu, soy protein, vegetables, etc.), I've hardly entertained the thought of green juices as a way to get the veggies.  I don't have a juicer (but we do have a blender..), but there's probably simple ones that aren't that expensive and might be a good idea, huh?  Sure! Fire me some resources if you have time, please. n_n

Only a little - it was hard trying to play with my laptop's touchpad the first few nights.  Once I brought my mouse from home, though, I ended up doing something stupid and digging myself into lava.  Lava hurts a LOT more on 'Peaceful' than I remember. o_o;

I'm glad to hear that you are out of the hospital Kithop, I hope that whatever is causing the abscesses is not chrons but some other issue that is easily remedied. :)
