Any suggestions on what elements you'd like to see in a design? I personally think the pawprint is overdone, but maybe someone has a new take on it. Some ideas for other design elements: tail, paws, full characters, bowling, tribal designs, "bcfurries.ca" or "BC Furries", flag/outline of BC. Any artists want to take a shot at a design?

I'm willing to put in some money up front for this if needed, but I only want to break even. If you want it mailed to you, you'll have to send money for postage.

how about a selected group of members, make their own symbol. and on the shirt will have a paw print that says BC Furries, and then the symbols will circle it.

 An altered version of the 1906 BC Coat of Arms might be a good design to start with.  It contains the British Columbia flag and other symbols of the province in a compact logo. However, we may not be able to use "B.C. or British Columbia" in our logo because there is a Provincial Protocol that could potentially cause some problems, quoted from the government's web site.

         " The use of the initials "B.C." or the words "British Columbia" in a name is restricted by the Provincial Symbols and Honours Act. The act ensures that individuals or organizations do not provide the impression of exercising a function of the Government, when in fact there is no authority to do so.  An individual or organization wishing to use "BC" or "British Columbia" in a name, is required to submit an application to the Protocol Office."

In order not to run afoul of the Protocol act in a logo design I would alter the 1906 coat of arms and make a couple of additions to get around the P.A.

First lets start with a look at the 1906 BC Coat of Arms - http://www.protocol.gov.bc.ca/protocol/prgs/symbols/img/img_arms_1906_lrg.jpg  

How I would alter it?

A). The Elk on the left and the Bighorn sheep on the right would be anthropomorphic.   B.) The banner running along the bottom would be changed from "Splendor Sine Occasu" ( "Spledor Never Ending") to a Canadian Flag so as to show country of origin. ( A paw print could be inserted into the Canadian Flag where the maple leaf usually sits.)   C.) The crown on top could be slightly simplified.   D.) Around the entire logo would be the outline of the shape of the province of BC.   E.) If you still wanted to use initials then you could try B.C.F. , (although we might be able to get away with B.C. Furs)  F.) I might add in a couple of provincial flowers, (Dogwood) around the top and maybe change the lion on top of the crown to the Provincial Mammal, (white spirit bear). Or change the lion on top to the Provincial Bird, (Steller's Jay.) so as to further alter the original design, but not go too far so as to make it unrecognizable as a provincial symbol.

How about a simple native-style orca (example: http://www.freespiritgallery.ca/Images/killerwhale2.jpg) crashing through ice with "BC Furs" written in the ice, and bcfurries.com on the back?

Yeah, and a complex design would be overwhelming on an article of clothing, so the simpler the better. I sketched out some ideas; maybe this will get the creative juices flowing:

I like the one with just the ears poking up or the face in the flag one. I think that the species used should definitely by the spirit bear since its the provincial animal and my american friends laughed at me when i told them about it.
