So, if you have a fursuit, did you build or buy it?

For me:

Markus, Purpleski http://www.arendstudios.com
Rattie http://www.arendstudios.com made the head, I made the rest
Heliodor http://www.sparkcostumes.com/
Bongo http://enigma.furrynet.com/
Arno http://www.mixedcandy.com/ Realistic head made by http://www.arendstudios.com

Thanks for the links.
I would love a fursuit of my own, and I have fabric for a head (stored under my computer desk!) ...I know I could make the body portion easily, but constructing and furing a head? I'm not that crafty so it wouldn't turn out well at all. ;-;

Well I am not sure if I technically can post here yet, but I am in the process of making my fursuit about 35% done so far.

I am just like you with almost no experience when it comes to making fursuits, right now I all I have is a bunch of links to tutorials and forums to work from. The rest is all prototyping/sketching and learning form my mistakes.

Aphinity

My rule is simple:  Attempt to make your own first.

You will pull your hair out and spend WAY too much time on it, and you will hate how it comes out.  Then, you'll realize it really isn't quite as bad as you thought and realize you could make it better if you try again, so you will, and that's how nearly EVERY major fursuit maker started.  Famous suit builders, including Scribblefox and SokiTwoPaw have commented on how they always try to outdo their last suit in some way.  Even the best feel they can improve, and so can you!

Don't just buy a suit for status.  Trust me.  The satisfaction in saying "Yes, I made this" is way WAY more satisfying than you think it is.  It will make those tireless nights and blistered fingers worth it.

Thanks for the encouraging words Aphinity, I would love to say yes I built it. I already accepted the fact that yes I'm not the best person in the world when it comes to building one, but I try and fail and learn from my mistakes. Actually so far my track record is I failed everything so far 1 once but I expected this and that is why I did the prototypes first using cheap material and such. Also yeah I have been working on it for a really long time heh heh don't wanna actually say how long it has been but it has been a while. I already have planes on my next one, but I so can't wait till this one is done and I can go out and have some fun.  :D

I don't have one, but I think if I were going to get one I'd commission it. It's cool to build your own and all, I just feel that at some level I don't have that "crafty" tendency and I don't really have a lot of interest in cultivating it.

Rascal Coyote

I built Temba the Lion, it cost me 200$ to build.

Right now I am making my own partial. And then eventually a body suit for it so I can interchange when I feel like it. Its a great experience and fun to look around and learn from everyone else. Mimic some of their techniques while trying to build your own unique technique at the same time :3

And plus when you make your own suit with your own style. It totally stands out in a crowd compared to ones that are made from the same 1-3 studios that people buy from.

I'm sure you've all seen this a bajillion times, but my friend Matrices in Oak Harbor runs her own site with loads of tutorials for making your own fursuit, etc.

I commissioned a tail to be made last August from Cosfurs. I haven't received the tail yet, and unfortunately they seem to be giving me the run around. =\

If anyone knows of someone locally who I could commission a husky tail from (I tried to make one myself and epic failed. haha) I'd be really appreciative. I even have the materials for one ^^

Sairys

I started out buying my own fursuit because I fell in love with fursuits, particulary scribblesuits :D. But I would take aphinity's suggestion and construct your own suit out from your two paws, it would be worth while.

I'm currently gathering materials to construct a fursuit, still lacking some parts but I think I'm almost ready to give it a shot.

i've been enjoyig making my own fursuit, its fun and rewarding.  but buying one might be cool
