Just wondering what you guy's thoughts are on the subject.

I wont bother going into my reason right now because Im in a hurry, but i'd love to hear from all of you!

I've been drawn to animals since I was very young, and grew up with pets in the house constantly. I've played at being an animal since I was knee-high to a grasshopper.

I think the real trigger was Disney's Robin Hood, but I was definitely way into animals before that point.

Xen Garden

Mine is a spiritual reason. I find that the animals I feel most connected to are ponies (Not exactly a fan of big horses) and aquatic animals... mostly dolphins. I've also been drawing creatures much like my own fursona ever since I was quite young, and Neopets never helped with the fact that they had a Peophin. Which made me happy since I love mythical horse creatures.

If anyone knows me well enough and researches Kelpies, they find that there's alot of things me and a Kelpie share. It is a creature that symbolizes death, but don't assume I kill people myself. People like to picture me wearing a dark cloak with a scythe, which I find rather amusing. They are also revengeful quite like myself. And just like a Kelpie, if you catch me, I'll submit to being a slave, but once I'm freed, your life will go down hill.

Also, what I like about Kelpies... they aren't the type of creature to sleep around. Just like me, they are a 1 person creature and are extremely loyal and devoted to serving the one they love. Although, if said person were to backstab the Kelpie, revenge will be served. So no, I will not yiff with you unless you're the one I love. Also, I find Kelpies are only attracted to humans, but they can get away with it due to the fact they can shapeshift into a human form (But will always have something physically viewable about them giving away the fact they aren't human).

i just love animals !!!! well there are other reasons but thats the one that sticks out. that and characters like sonic the hedgehog star fox and most disney movies didnt help lol
There are two types of ppl in this world, those who do what there told, and those who are true to them selves. Most people think your suppose to follow a predetermend path, keep your head down, obay the rules, do what evers popular, but some prefer to find there own path in life.

Im into it for a host of reasons.

Its a little embarrassing to admit, even to you other furs, that Im in for the spiritual aspects, Im one of those crazy guys who are animals on the inside.

Are there any of you guys who understand what I mean when I say 'Im not human on the inside'?

I've been associating myself with animals on an emotional level since I was, like, five years old. My parents once had to tell me to stop sitting at the curb in front of the house doing the Twilight Bark from 101 Dalmations. I was about 8 then.

The fandom itself, I got involved with online in 1995 when I first got a 'net-capable computer and discovered alt.fan.furry. It was an open, inviting group that made me feel like I wasn't the first one to feel a closer kinship to animals than people, like I wasn't the only person in my late teens and 20s who had a bigger collection of Animaniacs and Tiny Toons videotapes than I did of anything else, etc. It was a good fit for me - I just wish I had been able to establish more of an in-person relationship with the fandom as I grew up in it, instead of being stuck in the wilderness for most of a decade. =P

I mentioned mine is for a spiritual reason too =P
Mine is more of what my soul would look like in physical form, plus I feel most connected to aquatic things and ponies.

I'm in this for the people, talent, and creativity, pure and simple.

I love the open minded, fun loving, smiling people that most furries tend to be.  I love how everyone is a nerd, everyone is weird, and you can be yourself in the community with very little fear of reprisal for it.

I also love fursuiting, and I envy the artists and the incredible talent so many people seem to have in this community.  Overall, I love how talented the collective group is!

Do I have a dolphin somewhere inside of me?  Past life experience?  Ware or Otherkin?  No.  I think dolphins are awesome, and I have had some very close friendships (one in particular) with dolphins I worked with, and I like to think I understand the species.  I also love huskies and even own one.

RedDragon

mine is kind of a long story, it all came from a dream that i had that was a week long, each night a part of my dragon self was shown, till at the end of the dreamspan there stood my dragon form facing me and with out saying any words i was given a choice. accept it or dont. i accepted it and woke up feeling stronger. i was 13 when i had the dream.

Xen Garden

Wow that's pretty amazing RedDragon! Never heard of dreams like that. I remember a friend telling me he decided to be a wolf furry because he had a dream with one following him the whole time.

yea, i've never heard of any one really having that same style of dream, but my friend said it was my spirit guide joining with me.

Blue

I know someone who's spirit animal is a bear.

He went camping with some Native Americans a few years back and decided to put up his tent away from the others, in bear territory. That night he had a vivid dream of being a bear, and in the morning the camp warden told him how a big grizzly mama bear slept right next to his tent all night long.

I am kinda jealous, I would love to have dreams like that!
Your wish is mine to twist.

For me it wasn't spiritual at all really.

Growing up I always felt a strong connection with animals. Always had lots of pets I would feel a kinship with. I remember reading all the Brian Jaucques books when I was little and fantasize about being characters in them.

I didn't have access to really usable internet until college, and so, naturally, didn't know anything about the fandom. But when I started giving SL a good try; I made several furry friends and learned more about the community, realizing it was a good fit for me.

My fursona does hold personal significance to me though. I do relate to Martens a great deal. Many aspects of mustelid nature in general and Marten nature specifically feels to connect with me personally. Curiosity, a drive to always be doing something, Marten's agile and climbing-oriented lifestyles. Also I feel effected by the negative aspects too. Martens shyness and solidarity is something that seems to embody me as well, and feels like it's something that serves as a detriment in this social, gregarious human world we live in. I have been told that I move like a weasel before x3. And sometimes I ask myself "how would a Marten behave in this situation." "What would a Marten do to be happy right now."

Hope this makes sense to some of you.

ArcticFlux

Hmmm, not an easy question to answer, short form? It's something I relate to, quite well actually.

Long form - I've always been one for animals of any kind, loved them and so on, I started having dreams when I was 14ish~ where I was, well ... a Dragon, and I guess I could say I embraced it, I held it as a secret for a long time, thinking it was wrong, maybe that I was a little messed up. Since, I have come to realize that I really don't care about what they think, not really open about it, but if somebody asks I'll tell them whatever I know / they want to hear. Joining this board is my next step in well, being who I want to be.
