To me a furry is someone who can identify with an animal, or animals. Someone who feels connected, either by their actions or appearance to that animal or animals. It can also be someone who simply enjoys the animal or animals and likes to dress up and act out the animal in question. Anyone can be a furry, if only for a day. One thing they don't do, as a whole (or shouldn't since it is folly to do so) is discriminate towards other furries for the way they act or appear as a furry.

I find a furry is a character you created that represents you as an animal form. It could be for many reasons. Mine is more spiritual. >_<

so far the majority of the pics i've seen have been Canine and or Feline morphed images

I'm neither. Unless some way somehow a horse-like creature that lives in the water becomes one of those. But yes, even I noticed the huge amount of canines and felines. It's rather annoying actually with the lack of originality at times. Rodents are very popular too.

Not everyone has an anthro fursona though. There's the few of us like myself which have feral ones.

Everyone has their own fursonas for their own reasons though. As I said earlier, mine is for a spiritual reason and I've drawn it since I was about 12 or 13. It's an image that manifests my mind of what inner form I take. Some people have them based off their spirit animals, some just do it for role playing reasons, fetish reasons, the list can go on.

And the extremities of it taken can also be different. Some people just draw, some write, other dress up. There's many ways of expressing it. To an extent, everyone is a furry. Some people are either just in denial or don't feel that they are involved enough to be considered one.

so prime examples of furries would be Egyptian Gods like Anubis and Horus ya ?

i may come off as having a childs intelligence when it comes to all this tho so ya . . .

There are two types of ppl in this world, those who do what there told, and those who are true to them selves. Most people think your suppose to follow a predetermend path, keep your head down, obay the rules, do what evers popular, but some prefer to find there own path in life.

There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those that don't.

There's a really interesting discussion on this topic occurring on FurAffinity, surrounding a guy who's been involved in the fandom since the late '80s being told he "wasn't a furry" at FC. It's an interesting read, and kind of explores definitions in the fandom and whether they've been changing in recent years.

A furry is alot of things to alot of people. To put a strict definition on it is to create nothinig but confusion.

My personal brand of furry is theranthropy. I am, to put it bluntly, not human; at least in my head. I feel as though my body is not right, and I want something closer to the beast inside me.

ya i've had dreams all my life of just running wild through the jungle on a hunt to satisfy a primal need to kill and feed . . . that and i am always flying so ya . . . it is weird to explain but nothing a human can do really . . . and not too long ago i was informed that apparently when i'm affectionate i growl slightly i thought that was weird haha and then i heard a friend of mine talking about being a "furry" so i was curious as the only thing i've heard of close to that was that episode of CSI at that club CON thing

I've heard of people told they weren't furries because they wouldn't hug indiscriminately. Hell, by that definition I'm not a furry. :P

I've been told I'm not a furry because of my fursona. People have told me that having a Kelpie as a fursona isn't furry because it's mythical. So basically what they're saying is dragons, unicorns, hybrids, etc are not furries. Kinda ironic seeing as the majority of people's fursonas are either hybrids or mythical.
