KarnDragon

Hi everyone! I'm Karn Dragon, the wife of Plasma Gryphon who introduced himself here yesterday.

I've always loved animals, cartoons, and fantasy art -- and have been using a dragon avatar to represent myself for many years -- but I hadn't heard of furries until Plasma and I started dating. I thought furry stuff was cool, and I especially liked the artistic challenge of combining 2+ species together, but I mostly just hung out on the fringes of the community. We never lived in a city with a fur con until this year, so we decided to go to Vancoufer, and OMG! It was so. much. fun! I had such a great time at all the interesting panels, talking to the other artists, and admiring the craftsmanship of all the fursuits. I think last weekend might have tipped me over into actual furrydom, LOL. (I even bought ears, paws and a tail!) >.>

It would be nice to get to know some more people in the local area, especially as we've only lived here for about a year. I'd personally like to get more involved with the art scene. (I drew our two con badges this year, parts of which Plasma and I are using as our avatars.)

Other hobbies: I love to read, mostly fantasy, science fiction, history and popular science. I play a lot of video games (mostly WoW and Sims 4 atm), do a bit of knitting, and sing in a choir. I would LOVE to get into a local D&D group or other tabletop RPG if anyone is running a group that needs more players.

We've been hearing a lot about Telegram lately. If there are any group chats we should be signing up for in addition to this forum, let us know!

RainRat

Welcome. Glad you enjoyed Vancoufur.

Yes, Telegram is pretty popular among furries. I'd suggest starting with the BC Furries chat, linked at http://www.bcfurries.com/forum/index.php?topic=10627.0 , Then there is a pinned message, which will guide you to other chats that may interest you.

Hazellius

Totally agree with what RainRat suggests. I'd also recommend joining the Greater Vancouver Telegram Notification Channel that I'm running. It gives you a weekly roundup of the local events coming up, so you're always aware of the public furry meets, events & parties happening around the Lower Mainland.

The link to that channel is also available in the BCFurries chat pinned message that RainRat is talking about in case you want to invite other furs into the channel :)

KarnDragon

Thank you both! I will check into them.

Hazellius... your name seems familiar... Were you the one running the Con Newbie and Reptile sessions at Vancoufur?

Hazellius

Yupyup, I was! Wanted to give hosting panels a shot, so I did at VancouFur :)

KarnDragon

You did a great job! I found your reptile panel to be particularly good. I've always loved reptiles and have thought of getting one, but I'd want to do my research and be sure I could take good care of one before I got anything. Also, we have two cats and a dog right now, so I think we've reached our pet limit for the moment, heh.

Say hi to Eve for me! :D

Hazellius

Glad to hear you enjoyed my panels ^^ Also, it's nice to see someone who's doing their research and is really thinking through the decision to get a reptile or not. I'll make sure to say hi to Eve next time I see her (which will probably be at the Spring Reptile Expo in Abbotsford) :P
