Hi guys. As you've probably guessed I'm an Irish furry in Ireland. The last few days have been a little tense because I applied for a work visa to Canada. Been told I'm eligible and, as of today, I've joined the pool of hundreds of other Irish folk. Now the waiting game begins to be invited to visit Canada. This could take months but I want to spend that time getting to know you guys, the different regions in Canada, work prospects, lifestyle, transport, history and everything that involves shunting your life to another country. It would be nice to know some people before arriving, rather than feeling totally alone and lost.

Questions within reason are welcome. My Twitter is 'rime_scales' if you want to follow me. And I'll see about signing up to Telegram to chat.

Yay Canada!  :birdy:

I'm an immigrant and one weird thing I found is that even though I've lived in Canada for years and have all my other stuff, I need to present my citizenship for some really dumb things where you think government ID alone would be fine. Also pack up on your Irish snacks. Not every where in Canada has a good selection of global treats. Welcome to the forums!

Welcome to the Forums and good luck with your transition.
Do you have an ideas on where you'd like to live/where you'd be moving to?

Did you find it easy to settle into a new life?
What are the people like?
How were the job prospects when you first arrived?
(Probably a dumb question) Are you still happy in Canada?

I have too many questions. Sorry

Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to it. Life here isn't easy. And it looks to get even harder.
I have no idea which region I would like to move too. I'm looking up geography for Canada and learning. One of the reasons I joined this forum is to chat to the BC furries and find out what life is like in that part of the country. I'm guessing there are other forums for the other regions in Canada. I understand some places in Canada are very French. Without the language I wouldn't be able to establish much of a life.

No worries about the questions.

It was easy for me because I moved to Canada when I was super young. One of my parents is Canadian so I got easy citizenship. You still kind of feel like you don't belong though at times. Not so much in a bad way but more like you subconsciously know you're not from there.

(Below I'm talking about the general public not individuals.)

I have friends from all over and have talked to people from all over and gone to a few places myself and find that Canadians are polite compared to a lot of other countries. If you bump into some one in Canada or accidentally get in their path they tend to say sorry and things like that but I did live in a pretty rude city in Canada at one point too where you get the finger if you let some one cross the street. XD Canadians, again comparing to other countries aren't as knowledgable on the world outside them but they think they are. So that can be a little shocking sometimes during a conversation. Be careful with your jokes too. I find the stuff I can joke about with foreign people is considered disrespectful in Canada. Canadians are extremely sensitive in that department. Again not everyone is like that.

Jobs vary on where you live. BC is pretty hard for jobs but it also depends on the demand for your skills. My husband is looking to immigrate and he pretty much has no chance unless he has a job lined up first so he has to go back to school in his country. International schooling is extremely expensive. I looked into it for myself at one point.

Am I still happy? For quality of life, I'm really happy in Canada. Some things we have aren't as great as people say. Some things foreign countries have a lot better but over all; people in Canada don't realize how good they have it. I have family friends that have traveled the world and have said that even. There are sooo many things in other countries that are super normal to people living there but considered horrible conditions here.

I just moved to BC from another part of Canada a few months ago and find the island is much more eco-conscious than a lot of places in Canada. (I've been every were but way up North and Newfoundland area in Canada but have known people from there or who have gone.)
BC, while it has the nicest people I've met in Canada and the most compassionate...they are pretty absent in the common sense department but super smart on the academic side. XD I think I would prefer that though. My family and I noticed that a shit ton since being here in our short time. And people sing a lot on the island...like in the store and it's normal. 0.O Which if you did that in Edmonton everyone would avoid you and possibly think you're not all there, lol. People are pretty laid back out here. :)

I've found out that every single country has it's ups and downs no matter how they are portrayed for tourism or in the media. Which unfortunately is sad that not more people realize that and that everyone is on some common ground. Also in almost every country, people hate the government. XD

These are just my observations. Not everyone is like this.

The french isn't an issue. It's only really used in Quebec. Every where else they speak English. There will be the odd French community across Canada but they'll usually speak English too. There are lots of schools that teach french; full francophone ones are harder to find in the English speaking areas.

Thanks for the info. This is really helpful. I'm going for work, so if jobs are a bit scarce I may not head for BC. I'll check out other furry forum and see what comes up.

Sorry for a late reply too. Busy 2 days.

Do you guys have a Telegram chat btw?

Oh, hello there! Ireland is awesome, I hear the people are quite friendly and nice too! Would love to visit there someday. Hope you find what you're looking for here, of course~! We await your arrival!
I am but a blade in the crowd.

I have seen what comes of those who raise themselves above others.

No, sorry.

Actually I heard there was a Telegram chat someone has. I don't have that but I have Skype, they should set that up again.
