Afrikka

Hey there!

I'm Afrikka, among many other names, and while I'm not new to the fandom, nor Kelowna, I am new to the forums! I'm 27 years young (as of two-and-a-half hours from now), and have joined in an effort to meet some locals, make some friends, and seek help in making my own fursuit(s). I'm a writer by passion, a barista by paycheque, and something of an artist (though hardly a passable one.)

I've met Duffy a few times, as well as a small handful of others, but I figured I'd give y'all a shout here and introduce myself as I haven't actually met the local community per say, just a member here or there.

Welcome! May I ask what city are you referring to?

Afrikka

Hur-dur. I put it in my title, but forgot to mention it in my message! I'll edit that. :3

I'm in Kelowna.

Hey there Afrikka, I'm also from Kelowna :) Welcome to the forums!

Kelowna is very quiet in terms of in-person meetups but there are a handful of furries around here.

Hey Weremagnus! Nice to meetcha - actually, I think I might know you(r name) from Furc!

Having spoken to Duffy, I may just start organizing furmeets myself; it would seem no one has been organizing them lately, and I used to run the local Steampunk group, so gathering and organizing large groups of people in strange costumery is a feat not altogether unfamiliar! That is, if such a thing would be welcomed.

Ideally, I'd like to meet a few fursuiters, partially to pick apart (though visually, not literally!) their suits in order to get a sense of how they're built, and how to proceed in building mine. I'd also like to make some friends outside of my LARP group.

Would you have any idea if something like that'd be welcome, and if it'd go over well? I can't say I've been involved in the furry community outside of being a Beekin, so I'm not quite sure on how these things go.

Ah! You're a Furcadia Beekin? You've probably seen my name around then, I still build patches and dreamweave on Furcadia frequently :) I currently work on a Spyro the Dragon dream on there. Cool! Small furry internetworld XD

I'd certainly make an effort to attend if you decide to try organizing meets in Kelowna! I suit as well. There've been a handful of suiting meetups here, the ones I've attended were either at the City Park or out for minigolf at Scandia. Oh and we've done a few bowling fursuit events!

Grace has organized most of the events in the last two years (since I've lived in Kelowna anyway) but I'm not sure who is or isn't around lately. Either way I'd suggest polling interest in the "Rest of B.C." events subforum: http://www.bcfurries.com/forum/index.php?board=6.0

Hey Cass! Nice to meet'cha!

I'm a former Helper Beekin, and have been requested twice over (years ago by Crunchy, last night by Munn) to apply for Scribes once I have a working portfolio. (Heyyyy, need a website...?)

I've been thinking of, specifically, doing a bowling night. It's cheap, cheerful, not-too-terribly competitive,  and not quite out in public, so non-fursuiters and closet-furs might be more comfortable in a smaller, more enclosed setting. I know for a fact that I've been (and still kind of am) a closet-fur for many years. Are furmeets that disallow suits popular at all?

Duffy mentioned Grace, but also that she moved to Van-type-area a while ago.

I'll post a topic right now in the forum you suggested! Thanks!
