Totally. Haven't seen many abondoned buildings around Van. They seem to keep a top on that and cheap rent goes the the highest bidder around here so they don't last long. I have seen some beautiful gardens and alley between building downtown though. PM when we can get together.

Look up Tranquille/Padova in Kamloops. Its owned by a really sweet farming couple - I don't know what it has on right now, but you can take tours through it and they even opened up tunnel tours last October which were a bit hokey but fun.

It's a lot to type about, but basically its a piece of rich history - its an old abandoned town that used to be a refuge for those with tuberculosis and later it was a massive town for the mentally ill where the nurses and other staffers lived on site in the buildings. Its insanely cool... Homes, school, hospital, theater, graveyard, farms, barns, power station, fire station...

Ive been to soo many abandon sights etc but u need an atv/dirtbike to get there. I remember the old carolina mine that was abandoned, it was just past hope under the chocohala. It was amazing because u could take the atv's right down into the mine. And all the equipment was just left there etc. And we all stopped inside the mine and turned off all the lights and it was neet just how dark it was down there! I did hear tho apparently the government might be starting the old mine back up.

I would totally do that if it wasn't for the fact that I might get shot.

I'm an experienced urban caver, so I can certainly give you some very useful advice.

You should always have with you:

Steel toe boots with steel shank.  Nuff' said.
Thicker, cut-resistant jacket.  There can be a lot of sharp, rusted metal pieces.  I use an old heavy canvas Canadian army jacket.  Also, your jacket should be at least water-resistant.
Jeans or the like to protect your legs.
Leather gloves.  Latex ones aren't good enough, you need to be able to handle sharp metal.
First aid kit.
Chalk, and Sharpie.  So you can make notations on walls and stuff as you go, and to help you know where you've ben and where to get out.  Not for graffiti.
AT LEAST 2 waterproof, shock resistant flashlights.  If you only bring one and drop it, or it stops working, you're screwed.
Notebook and pen.  Make notes and maps.  Cellphone not recommended.
Hat, to keep dripping water/chemicals off your head.
Portable 70CM ham radio, for communicating with others.  FRS garbage will not do the job due to metal/concrete.  Especially if underground.
Durable water resistant pack/bag to carry your stuff.
Water.  Something to eat.
Prod, if needed, to test floor strength.
