I would figure out exactly how much it's going to cost you, and then figure out (based on what you know about how long it takes you to make fursuit parts) how long it'll take.  If you're just starting out and your stuff isn't ultra-amazing yet, I would consider charging anywhere from $5 upwards per hour that you spend on it. although it really depends how quickly you work.  If you'r really slow, it could be lower.  It's not a lot, but it depends what your end goal is.  If you want to get some stuff out there to get yourself recognized, you might be more willing to get less money in exchange for the exposure.  If it 's for friends and experience and you don't really care if you make much, I would say likewise.  If your goal is to actually make some money, one idea is to add your cost of materials to the price you'd like to make per hour of work, and figure out how many hours (and therefore dollars) it's going to take to build.

It depends on what it is, too.  For a head, the best idea for getting an idea of what someone might be willing to pay is to look at other people's heads of similar quality and see what they're charging.  If it seems reasonable to you, for the quality you're giving, ask your commissioners if they're good with a similar price.  If they'll pay it, that's great; everyone's happy.  If not, you'll need to figure out what they're looking to pay for a head of your current level of quality.

Good luck!
