So... I am going to be posting updates here on my workouts each day. (Or each day I work out at the gym). I would like this thread to be in SUPPORT of those trying to lose weight, gain muscle, or try and get fit or staying fit! This thread will be for encouragement and support as anyone who tries to lose weight knows how important it is (Unless you're one of those people that can just do it and not need to think about it - I envy you.)
Feel free to post your results! And feel free to ask questions and talk about anything at all exercise related! :-3
I know one of the things that happens the most is "But it's so hard" or "I don't have anyone to help" or anything like that. This thread is to get rid of that "no support system" and help each other encourage one another!
Please Please PLEASE Do not post anything rude or demeaning as this is important for the mental stability of those trying to get fit and be healthy. Support and praise are the best things for us and we need all the love and support we can get. Keep sarcasm to a minimum as it can so easily be taken the wrong way please :-3
Some Tidbits:
*I record my stuff on MyFitnessPal and love it because I can keep track of everything and not think about it. It keeps track of how many carbs, now much protein, and anything else you can think if that you're suppose to consume to get the results you want. Just type it in and done! Some others work better by writing it down physically. But this site is free and keeps everything in track and order. It has worked wonders for me. Give it a try.- *Make reasonable goals. Don't try and lose 50lbs in Ten weeks. It's not safe, dangerous, and can (probably will) do more harm than good even if you don't notice it. An example - I personally want to be a healthy 150lbs. But right now I just want to get to 170lbs.
- *Remember losing just 10lbs you will feel SO much better. You will have more energy too. I notice this all the time.
- *DISCIPLINE! Don't start off with thinking "Oh I exercised today so I deserve a treat" kind of thinking. Avoid that as much as possible. Resist the ice cream, resist giant meals, etc. This thread will help with that as well. Feel free to tell someone you're having cravings and feel free to ask for support. If you start off or end up doing the "I deserve a treat" and don't have self control, you won't get the results you want and/or may not get any at all for that matter.
- *Cut down bad fats and large amounts of red meat. The daily recommended intake of red meat is 70 GRAMS. Not an 8oz steak. There are other ways to get your protein. Red meat is not a good way to go about it. Eggs, Poultry, Fish and Soy are far more recommended by many. There are also protein shakes and other things. REMEMBER - You need fat to break down and absorb protein. Do NOT cut out fat completely. Protein repairs muscle, and if you cannot absorb it, no matter how much of it you consume it will not be taken in.
- *Surround yourself with Positive things. Can't stress this enough.
- *Get a Work-out buddy if you can. The buddy doesn't have to exercise, just be with you and keep you company. Makes a world of difference. someone that can support you and pat your back and tell you you did a job well done.
- *Alternate days between cardio and weights. You want to do both because when you start to lose fat your skin loosens. Weight training will help keep flesh tight while working out.
- *Be aware some diets are EXTREMELY dangerous and can do so much harm to you. Some have been known to kill people. So please be careful! And this is also why support and research is good. But don't just take websites opinions. Go into a gym and ask questions they will be more than happy to help you out!
There are many other things and suggestions others will have.
Going to do my frigging hardest to work out like crazy. For those that live near me I would love it if you came over and just went for walks for me or anything. The more exercise I can get the better. Burned 988 calories today. Not including weight training.
Anyone also using it can friend me on My Fitness Pal. Here is my progress and progress bar. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/Star_Wonder (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/Star_Wonder)
I currently work out at Goodlife Fitness. They have 3 day free entry passes for anyone that wants to join me any time. Just go online and fill a thingy out. It's a stress-free environment. No one judges. And the staff there are SO goddamn nice it's awesome.
My goal is to try and go every other day and do the same thing as today.
Kuviare and I went at 3 am, didn't get back until 6:45 am.
My reasons For doing what I am doing (you should make one too)
About Me:
I am 27, and I have had a bad history of medications ruining my life. Anti-depressants have made it hard for me to lose weight and instead I gain like mad. I have been on 8 different diets and all of them caused me to gain weight, never lose it. This includes exercises. And I decided why not give myfitnesspal a chance to help myself. Ever since puberty my weight is always horrible. I gain so easily it's not funny. My doctor said I have to work seven to thirteen times harder than the average person to lose weight because of my old medications from when I was younger (Which I was misdiagnosed for sadly enough). So far the site is successful in helping me out.
Why I want to get in shape
I want to be healthy. I want to reduce my asthma. I want to be able to jog across the street without having a full on asthma attack. I want to be healthy and feel good. Being overweight makes me depressed constantly and I am already emotionally unstable, so I want to at least gain some control of my life, and so I chose weight. I am going to get in control of it. I am already healthy food wise. I am vegan, I eat lots of good, nutritional food, in good portions. But I am also on disability for both mental and physical reasons. So getting into shape will help with BOTH of these. I will have back problems all my life (accident at age 13), but at least reducing weight will help keep me out of the hospital. And will reduce my risk for diseases and heart attack. I don't want to end up like my mom who is extremely ill with all sorts of weight related issues.
My Inspirations
Get rid of some of my depression
Get in control of one part of my life
Feel better on the inside
To be heathy, and in turn, happier.
Now that I've got the ball rolling feel free to continue! Or just offer support <3 I could really use it! I am more than happy to offer advice, support or chat about this too!
(If you are interested in Joining Myfitnesspal with me let me know so I can invite you :-3)
When trying to get "in-shape," the hardest part of doing it is the motivation. It's so goddamn easy to fall into the rut of being like, "I should go to the gym... but I really don't FEEL like it." But I find that, once you're AT the gym, the switch flips and I get right into it.
I know you and I have spoke of this before, but this method is almost guaranteed for everyone else. The most fool-proof way is to get into a routine. If you work, make sure you hit the gym immediately before or after, and bring your gym-bag with you to work so you don't need to stop at home. If you spend a lot of time at home, set an alarm on your phone that tells you when you need to go start PREPARING for your workout, and set another one that tells you when to LEAVE for your workout. Routine is everything with exercise. Once you break that routine, it becomes a bitch to get back into it. It's like the opposite of quitting smoking, haha.
Having a gym buddy is good, too. I personally find that I rather workout alone because I focus right in on what I'm doing and have no distraction by having a friend there. Some people love having a gym buddy because they feed off each other for motivation and encouragement, and that's a really good thing to have, especially when you set big goals for yourself that are going to take years of hard work.
It is true that at least half of "getting in shape" is mental. It's not just a physical transformation that occurs when you apply yourself, but you notice a huge boost in confidence and self-worth when you can look at yourself in the mirror and say, "My work is paying-off." It's slow. Yes, it takes years to reach goals. But the journey is where all the change happens.
Just to check in, but Fitocracy is a great site with a decently large population of furries trying to get more fit. https://www.fitocracy.com/home/ (https://www.fitocracy.com/home/)

Thank you, but this thread is for more personal things and discussion. Since this is a forum many furries are on, and many are in the same boat I am, there are those that feel this could be a good way to discuss and talk. Also there are those that don't want to sign up to another site to do the same as what I have going here. People can go there, but I feel this is a bit more personal and people know each other here face to face better.

Oh. Okay! Well, I support you on your journey! I have my own trying to get off the ground.
I still can't lift triple-digit weight. When I was in high school, I was called to the counsellor's office twice because they thought I had an eating disorder. Even though I'm a healthy 165 now and don't shop out of the children's section, I'm still, for lack of better term, weak.
Though I've learned one main thing that helps everyone, either gaining or losing weight.
Get more muscle.Muscle is active tissue that requires more energy to maintain than bone, fat, skin, anything. It's the most high maintenance tissue of the body. If you get stronger, your basal metabolic rate will increase. Women lack the testosterone to get huge without chemicals, so there's no worry about getting masculine features. And it
never goes away. Being strong makes it easier to diet.

Getting fit is far more than 50% mental unfortunately. If it was just half, it would be faaaar easier for myself, and everyone else I know. In fact from what I have read, and been told by both other people that work out and by the gym staff and personal trainers there, it's about 80% mental.
It's also really hard when you get really sick and fall out of your routine. And a great way to get back into it is to have a support group/person. Some people need a kick in the ass (Sometimes physically, sometimes that's what I need) And some people need a gentle touch of encouraging words (Sometimes this is also what I need). The most successful people are those that have support.
When Kuvi and I get to the gym, the only things we do together are weights. We stand in front of each other. Kuvi lies to me and tells me "just one more" and when he's doing the working out I stand there and piss him off so he can be angry through the burn. It's both fun, entertaining, and works like a hot damn. Or I can talk about a part of my body he desires and make him focus on it and he forgets how many reps he's doing. For some this type of distraction gets them through the last few burning reps.
Then you have to figure out what your body, your body type, and all that stuff will have to go through and how it will lose weight and where it will drop the most. My weight has gained over my body fairly evenly. I am constantly told I do not look like I weigh 190lbs because of how evenly I have filled out. So I need to be aware where my weight will drop first. For women? Boobs. Boobs are the first to go. Yup. I go through that a lot. Plus, for weight loss things, because of the chemistry that is messed up with me, I cannot accurately gauge like others how much I will lose, when I will lose it and so on. I have to work so much harder than others because of what I have had done to me through unneeded and dangerous medications. That makes everything more complicated for someone like myself. And I need to go more.
And those that have ADD (not ADHD - not the same thing), know that you are motivated by others. Either for their gain or your own. It's hard to function on your own personal needs and wants. You want to lose weight, that's all well and good, but when you're alone? It makes the hill look like a mountain. It's a mental disability and for some they need help. It also depends on how mild or severe it is because there are over 2000 forms of ADD (and ADHD). I myself have a very severe case that effected me worst through school. (I failed english 11 twice and english 12 once, even studying after hours with the teacher a day before a test I would still fail the test. There is a mental block and it's hard to overcome. I was too dumb for regular math but super smart for dumb math. Lol Etc.) So when you have mentality issues already, you REALLY need help and support from friends and family.
I don't have family support. I only have Kuvi. And it can be too much for him. So I want to reach out for help from others, especially friends. I have a hard time dealing with strangers with this type of thing but I am not against it. It just can be more difficult to deal with me for those that do not know me.
Getting a routine is not easy for many people. Especially when their sleep schedule is so erratic. I sleep whenever my body tells me to. Sometimes I have insomnia for days. Sometimes I sleep 30 hours in a row. Not even waking to go pee. These are side effects from medications that I didn't need. What I needed and what anyone with Clinical/Chronic or Temporary Depression is what many call DEE. Diet, Environment, Exercise. Environment being the MOST important. Eating right? That is easy. It's called discipline. And it's called, stare at the bad food until you're disgusted with it because you know it's
ACTUALLY DISGUSTING and you shouldn't be eating it. And Exercise is important for anyone, any human should know that. But Environment effects EVERYTHING about you and around you. If you're around really negative, depressed people, it makes everything depressing and hard to deal with. Or if you're around people that ignore you, family that doesn't support you, no one to pat your back, etc, again, it makes people go "Why bother?" or "No one cares so why should I?" But I care. I care about everything and everyone. I want to always help even if I am not qualified. I want to do what I can and be there for people when I can. It helps ME get better too. Because I am motivated by OTHERS. When someone is sad, I am motivated to get my butt in gear and help them out. That generally requires going outside, and I have HUGE anxiety issues. So it helps me overcome it just so I can help someone. So if you're in any way similar to my mentality or suffer from depression(s), I just want you to know I am there, I know what it's like, and I can offer that support and advice. Feel free to ask me questions about my personal life and experiences and research I have done to get at this point. As I am 27 now it took me 16 years to be able to acquire this knowledge and actually realize doctors are pill pushing assholes (Some.)
A little bit of interesting fact for those that suffer from depression - Many doctors will call it a "chemical imbalance". This has not been proven. In fact NO research has been done, or has been found as proof or conclusive evidence to whether or not it is true. Doctors more often than not will give people more that two or three different anti-depressants and say "We need to find the right balance for you" or some crap like that. What anti-depressants do is actually break down your chemicals, and replace it with their own. This can cause SERIOUS problems. like with myself. There are others that have severe issues. And others that actually killed themselves. There is a reason why one of the side effects of ALL anti-depressants is "Death". The BEST method, and PROVEN to work, is D.E.E. Doctors go about the medications the exact same way as they did for blood letting and leaching to 'cure' depression. In fact they still do it. Even here in Canada. Sometimes it "works". But from what I have researched, looked up, and asked doctors about, the blood letting and leaching is usually a placebo effect and the light headedness and needing to replenish blood often is the cause of "less depression" but is not a cure. In fact there is no known cure for Clinical/Chronic depression. And Depression is not "oh I'm sad." It's actually more physical as well as mental. So keep that in mind.
All of this plays right back into exercising and physical activity. If you're in pain (caused by depression or other), it's harder to do things. I have Permanent nerve damage in my back. I will always suffer problems no matter how fit I am. (I have suffered this since I was 13 because of an accident.) But there are many exercises I can do to lessen my pain. But I am physically not allowed to lift more than 15lbs. Such as a box or what not. I am allowed to do weight machines. I also suffer from Tennis Elbow. And that never goes away. Once you get it, it flares up and you either get it treated and spend so much money on that, or work through it. Some of the exercises at the gym actually worsen it for me so I have to be careful and aware of my limitations.
If you break your arm or leg or what not, when it's better doing physical therapy is important to gain the muscles you lost and strengthen everything around it. But know when it's okay to do it. Do it too soon and you could cause more damage than good. Talk to your doctor about that.
Okay... I think that's enough wall-o-text. :-3
: terutt September 04, 2013, 07:02:07 -06:00
This is also a misunderstanding. Women don't need chemicals to get masculine looks. I have seen it personally. One of the trainers at the gym looks like a guy, and does regular drug testing. She says she's never taken anything but protein shakes and what not. I know others similar as well, not as well mind you, but she comes in after she's off work and works out like crazy. I believe it's against the Gym rules to be on steroids and drugs as well because it's a high-rep gym and can be very bad for them if their trainers were taking drugs to help themselves.
Star has done enough finger exercising for one day XD

A lot of people also forget Muscle weighs more than fat. You can be at the gym, working out, and maintain the exact same weight and have no idea you're gaining muscle at a rate that your fat goes down to keep it even.
And "to diet" is a term one should not use. Diet isn't cutting out EVERYTHING in your daily food regiment. You can still eat things, just be HEALTHY about it. You don't need that third helping of turkey, you don't need ...ANYTHING from Mc Donalds. Most of this stuff can be easy made by making your own food. Also why I recommend Myfitnesspal. It keeps track of everything. It gives you a calorie goal and how much you should consume. And you don't have to think about it. Just try and be at the goal line. I found out I am anorexic by doing this site. I had a hard time consuming 800 calories a day, let alone 1200 that it wants me to. One should never consume less than 1200 calories a day. If you exercise you're suppose to eat the calories you burned if you are limiting to 1200 a day. (for WOMEN. Men are higher. Men should never be at 1200 a day). It will show you how many calories you need for your goals. It's very convenient and I love it personally. It has been the biggest help to me with eating. I still find it so hard to eat 1200 a day. I have to force myself to eat.

Actually it's a bad method for weight loss and exercise... You get tired faster, easier, and don't lose anywhere near as many calories as you think you do. Part of the reason you get so tired is not exertion, but the endorphins that take over everything and you use it up. Making you tired far faster than working out a gym or even going for a walk. You burn more calories on a regular walk in an hour than you do with an hour of sex. (I looked this stuff up religiously for months because I refused to believe sex was actually not as good as the hype let on. Then enough proof and stuff just kind of overwhelmed me.) So technically you are still on topic! :-3

Unless you're me or like me, you get lots of sex or sexual activity. Those with Hypersexuality like I have are very active. Women burn more calories than men during masturbation (also depending on how the masturbate). But I've been this way for many many years, was humping things before puberty as many girls do, but it has made very little difference in my physical appearance. The only thing I notice is my abdomen is very firm under the fat and I can flex it. I also don't masturbate in traditional ways and that makes all the difference. A good way to work abs though is laying face down and lifting one's rump and humping as slow and holding it as long as possible. Don't need to masturbate either. Just lay in bed and do it. Masturbating just makes the pain go away and is a good distraction ^_^
You guys can make fun of female body-builders all you want, but the truth is: bodybuilding is considered another form of art to those who practice it. You have the ability to craft your body into whatever form you see fit, and the people with the boulder-sized muscles and garden-hose veins don't do it to look attractive; they do it to see how much they can lift, how big they can get, and push the boundaries of the human body.
I personally work out because I like the way a well-crafted male body looks with all the structural curves and valleys created by rock-solid muscle. I don't do it because I find it sexually attractive or to try and gain attention from others; I do it because this is something I appreciate the appearance of and it is a goal that I set to achieve. I don't find the sinewy lines and gigantic veins all that pleasing to the eye either, but I don't scoff at those who do because that's their own personal taste.
We all have our own reasons for doing it. Those are the reasons for motivation for getting up off our asses and GETTING FREAKIN RIPPED! RRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!

to the original post of the image.
I am doing this for health reasons first. Then second, I want to feel good in my own body. I am not going to drop weight to some 115lb crap. My goal is 150lbs which is healthy and in the proper weight range for my body type. I would like to be stronger and lighter so I can be picked up and can pick things up easier. My mom is my motivation to get this weight gone because she's sick in bed and she's just a sad state of affairs in her own world. She -wants- to die. She's going in for surgery in October and she signs a DNR every single time she goes under. She WANTS to die because she's just given up. And nothing I say and do, or my brother, or any thing the family does can or will change her mind. She is at risk of losing a leg. Most of her issues were started by smoking NOT by her weight. But her weight fluctuations between 90-150lbs over and over took it's toll on her heart. (90lbs is okay for her height btw) She doesn't even look that big. She has hardening of the arteries, which one is not suppose to get until they are in their 80's. Hers started in her 30's. I don't want to become her.
I'm on myfitnesspal too: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/faenaria (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/faenaria)
I'm working on my diet first, and taking yoga and pilates as my exercise for now. When I have the money I'd like to join a gym. Need to start getting on my elliptical to get my cardio done again.
That's all
Over eating is a problem I have. I'm struggling with it even now. I eat when I'm bored, or when I'm stressed or upset. I don't seem to have a whole lot of control over it, even though everyone will tell me that I do. Right now I'm bored and my body is convinced that it is hungry. It's not and I can tell that I'm not. So I'm sitting here, trying to have the willpower not to snack. So far I'm winning. But that's only for now and I'm afraid of giving in because once I give in, I don't stop.

I suggest a three day fast, I did that myself. This will be no solid foods. Watered down pure fruit smoothies and tonnes of just water. It will shrink your stomach. It isn't dangerous past 3 days as long as you drink a lot of water.
It is also suggested to drink two glasses of water before eating. You will feel fuller sooner.

I have a similar problem, and my kitchen is literally a couple steps away from me from any place in my house. I try to stay out of the house as much as possible so that I don't find myself in my kitchen every 10 minutes wondering why I walked over there. So yeah, keep yourself busy, it helps.

Very true. Keeping busy helps. You're doing lots of great things ^^
Went to the Gym today!
Okay... so... I did 30 minutes of reclined bicycle at "fatburn" and "cardio" mode. Went 5.65 km. And did 45 minutes of "Bodyflow". It's a mix of all sorts of things like yoga, Pilates, tai chi, balance exercises and other things. We had to leave early because I had to go to the doctor's.
Bodyflow is amazing. I work out at goodlife and any of their programs are free to go to. Body combat, Zumba, there are like, almost 2 dozen to pick from. It's amazing and feels great. My core is rock hard right now. My ass is fuckin hard and feels awesome. My legs are JELLY. Gonna take a nice hot bath to get my body relaxed so I don't cramp up.
I feel great! I seriously recommend people do that stuff. I work out at the goodlife in Abby and you can get a 3 day free pass and some places like Pita Pit actually have 7 day passes you can fill out. You get access to anything in the gym. I would love more gym buddies so I can go every day I am fit enough to. So far I am getting back into going, and it's been every other day. This weekend I will have to skip because I'm going to a certain dragon's birthday party :3 Gonna be awesome.

Cardio burns fat. One of the BEST methods is the row-machine. Or Sprint-rowing. Eating lots of celery and broccoli.
Interval training -- that is, alternating bursts of intense activity with bursts of lighter activity -- is a good way to burn more fat. Walk for five minutes, then jog for five repeat. That strategy will burn overall more calories and more fat. If you are already jogging, jog then sprint to mix it up.
Increasing intensity for a short period within your regular workout will burn more total calories and therefore more fat.
Although a lot of people think a thousand sit-ups or crunches a day will get rid of the flab, that's not entirely true. Sit-ups aren't going to get rid of your abdominal fat, per se, Sit-ups strengthen the abdominal musculature. So that means with enough sit-ups your tummy should have a better appearance. But may still have lots of fat.
STOP EATING DAIRY (with some exceptions)! This goes for ANYONE. Dairy is FAT. That's all it is. "Low fat Dairy" is still FAT. Yogurts are one of the only recommended to continue to consume while exercising. But Low fat as well. In fact there are some that suggest having THREE servings a day, at different times (not all at once), will help reduce fat faster than eating little to none. However this study was done for OBESE people. It doesn't seem to effect those that are in the "overweight" to "regular" ranges. Remember there are serving suggestions on containers. That's a serving. Not dish it out and eat whatever. You need to follow the serving suggestions! Another fact I learned: people should stop eating dairy around the age of puberty as that is when fat gets packed on. It was harder back 30 years ago to not have dairy because other things were not available as a replacement OR were disgusting. There are many other drinks out there that can help and have more calcium and move vitamins, and far less fat than Dairy. Be aware of GOOD fats vs BAD. Nuts and legumes have tonnes of good fats and full of protein. More than you would think. You NEED fat in order to break down and absorb protein. There is no way around it. And you need protein to repair your muscles when working out and to build new ones.
Whole grains, lean protein (Soy is a really good one. Or chicken/poultry), plenty of fruits and vegetables, and eight glasses (CUPS) of water daily. No one ever tells you the measurements of water "needed" per day. When I say "needed", you don't actually need that much. Your body knows when it's dehydrated most of the time, so it will tell you when you're thirsty. Such as a dry mouth, or fatigue. Two liters are what some would say you drink a day. That's a lot of water. When you work out a lot, you can drink far more water. But you CAN over hydrate and people have died from that. As well as dehydration of course. So keep an eye on your water levels. There are ways to see if you're dehydrated too like pinching your skin.
If you eat one meal a day, and it's big, STOP. Split it up during the day to three to five small meals. It will make your energy level spread out and you're not going to feel tired from over eating in one go. And don't give yourself, or others "I'm to busy" crap excuses. Make a sandwich/meal(s), the day before and stick them in the fridge. You can make time, everyone can. Or get help! Ask someone else to make it for you if you have little time (family, loved ones, even friends might help).
**REMEMBER** Men lose fat and gain muscle differently than women. According to all of my research, it's easier for women to lose fat. They even can do fewer reps than men when working out.
Here are some sites that might help and can give you hints and what not.
REMEMBER this as well - You don't need all the equipment they show. You can substitute it. Like dumb bells can be substituted with weighed down fabric grocery bags. Etc.
I am not sure if these work 100% but give it a try!

There are many sites that can help. I actually like the gym better because they will tell you exactly what you want...
Keep in mind!!!!!Those that are already thin, but say have one thing that's fatter than others like a belly, or arms, or moobs or whatever - fat is not area-selective when you burn it. You can work your stomach, or whatever part has all the fat, and it might not come off and instead it will take fat from somewhere else. This is generally because you are doing the WRONG exercise. So keep that in mind. Doing lots of crunches will get your abs in shape, but not really burn belly fat. The fat you burn will be in your ass, thighs, back and arms.
I personally recommend home-made smoothies. They are energy increasing and REALLY delicious. I have some of my own recipes and if anyone wants me to share them I can. They are low-fat, and even can be super chocolaty for those cravers ;) And you can even come over to my place to try some if you want I will be more than happy to share! (Just bring your own fruit is all I ask.)
I hope that helps you Fuzzum! And anyone else reading!
Well shit ALRIGHT LET THE WORKING OUT BEGIN!.
its going to be slow but get better and better.
thanks that helps alot gives me a good idea what i have to do and what im goign to do.
this is going to be fun.
Thanks Star for the thorough post. Left little for me to add, haha. Either way that there is a wealth of info to go off on.
Here's just a few tips I can think of off the top of my head:
More meals per day with less portions increases metabolism which in turn increases calorie burn.
Proper diet has a bigger impact on weight loss than physical activity.
Carbs are most important before and after work out.
Never skip breakfast.
Muscle cells require more energy than fat cells, so muscle training will help burn calories in a way.
I can think of more, but not tonight.
Also!!!!
VERY IMPORTANT!!!
Eat a SMALL snack BEFORE you go to sleep. This will keep your metabolism going. A piece of jam and toast, an apple, something light and small. Yogurt is another good one!
Havent been able to do much a mother and her cubs and a random bear have been hanging around the places i go kinda scary.
but i got like 15 km walking in and thats about it i have to leave the house to do thing right now way to many distractions here. were my lazy zone is. but when i feel the bears are gone ill continue to move around outside.
3-10 hour straight days of work, walking lifting 55lbs+ all day long. WCB would hate me ^.^
I receive a decent workout at work. I load and unload containers for about six to eight hours a day, and the boxes can weigh anywhere between twenty to a hundred pounds. If you want a good workout, get a job doing what I do.

I got a thigh exerciser and resistance cords! Now when I'm playing Minecraft or Roleplaying I am working out! Woot!
well its something
So here's something I have been doing! It's been great! I have been playing minecraft, and working on some hand paws for a suit partial piece. And when I am doing either, or both at the same time, I use my thigh resistant exerciser! It's easier to use when playing a video game though. As when I am farming mobs, and waiting, in between slaying Zombies, I am doing all sorts of exercises with my thigh exerciser and my resistance cords. I never thought it would be easy to just idly exercise. But it works. I'm quite enjoying it! Give it a try if you can! I also use my dumbbells for the same thing. :-3

I need a healthy, vegetarian meal I can eat when I get home from work. Something I can prepare one night and store it in the fridge for the week for each night.
I don't care much for instant noodles or canned meals (very salty), and I am getting bored of beans and rice all the time. Eating out is putting a dent in my pocket, (not my stomach lol).
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have made a weightloss soup which haas been very successful for me in this past week. I have now dropped 4 lbs by just eating it. But the batch I make is huge, enought to last a few weeks. And it's very cleansing.
One should never eat out when they want a diet that is good for them. You don't know how things are prepared or how much is actually added to the food within water or batters and so on.
I myself am vegan and eat all sorts of things. The meals I make last for days and have very low impact on the wallet.
Well when I say eating out, I mean mainly going to Subway and getting their footlong veggie subs (just mustard sauce, usually). But yeah totally agree on not eating out for dieting.
Star, care to share your soup recipe?

Well when I say eating out, I mean mainly going to Subway and getting their footlong veggie subs (just mustard sauce, usually). But yeah totally agree on not eating out for dieting.
Star, care to share your soup recipe?
First, I want to start off by saying stop eating foot longs. A foot long is two meals. In fact it's not even a complete meal. But only eat 6" and drink lots of water or juice (not pop) with it. And make sure they STUFF it with veggies.
My soup recipe depends on the size of batch you want lol I make enough to last for several weeks.
You need a LARGE pot for this, like one you would boil lobsters in or something.
14-18 Cups of water
2 Heads of Celery - cleaned and chopped
2-4 cans of chickpeas - no salt or sugar added (organic or other)
2-4 cups of dehydrated veggies (Independent Stores {branch of Super Store} sells it in bulk for cheap. I get a huge bag of it for like $7)
3-10 tbsp Tumric (depends on how much you want. I use LOTS. Has anti-oxidants in it)
And 2-4 cubes of VEGETABLE soup bouillon - make sure there is no meat base like beef or tallow (depends on the instructions on the package)
Bring the water to a boil, add bouillon, and dehydrated veggies. Cover, wait 10-14 minutes. Then add chickpeas and celery. Bring back to a boil. Make sure it isn't a hard boil otherwise it will spill over from foam. Make sure it's rolling or it may burn. Cover and set a timer for 15 minutes. Check at the end of the time for the softness of the veggies. They should be very soft.
Turn off and take off element and serve! You don't need to add salt as the bouillon has some in it. Celery and chickpeas are the key ingredients in the soup. Celery goes through you fast, and chickpeas are high in protein. Both are the perfect combo for weight loss.
In the mixed dehydrated veggies there is some pieces of potato, red peppers (not hot), celery, carrots, and a few other things. They are tiny pieces, and they make up very little of the mix, but add great texture and flavour.
I generally freeze half of it, and put the other half in the fridge. So far it's lasted 12 days in the fridge before it's all gone. I keep it covered and sealed in a container. Do not put in fridge or freezer until cooled.
When I put it in the freezer, I use left over Becel Vegan Margarine containers. Each container is about one serving. I usually find I freeze about 10-15 of them depending on how much I put in the fridge or have consumed before it's even gotten cold enough to freeze or put in the fridge lol!
Another option:
Make some rice, and add it in afterwards to each serving. (Do NOT put it into the soup batch itself.) Rice is gluten-free and adds more flavour and texture if you want it. But I find I only do it for a treat more than adding it for any other reason.
And because of the amount of protein, it makes you feel really full really fast. And the rice can add to that fullness. But it will absorb all the broth and you really want the broth as is, to aid digestion
This recipe is Vegetarian/Vegan friendly, high protein, high fibre, low carb, low sugar, low sodium (depending on your bouillon), Diabetic friendly, low cholesterol, and lactose free!
:3 I will be making recipe art, like Houkuko has here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11718385 (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11718385)

erm...bears are pretty much going into hibernation and black bears aren't a big deal. On top of that you don't need to go outside to get exercise.

Black bears aren't a threat...
Anyway... Exercise inside 3 times a week for 20 minutes a day and it won't seem like it is a lot but it does a lot for your body.
NOT A THREAT there a threat they stand up for them selves more and more every time you meet them. its like the wimpy kid, the more you push it the more pissed it gets and one day it will spaz on ya. no good.

Seriously...dude... You live around black bears and you don't know anything? Any black bear expert, specialist, book, website or information will all say the following below. Read it. Then don't worry about it. They are NOT A THREAT:
What to do if You encounter one:What do I do if the bear stands up on its hind legs?1. If the bear stands up, this is
NOT an aggressive behavior. The bear is only trying to see you better to figure out what you are and assess whether or not you are a threat.
2. Back away slowly, make sure the bear has a clear escape route.
3. If you encounter a bear at close range, remain standing upright, back up slowly and speak to the bear in a calm, assertive voice.
4. Make sure that you are in a safe area and that the bear has a clear escape route. Then, make noise or bang pots and pans to scare the bear away.
5. Do NOT turn your back, play dead, climb a tree or run. Back away slowly into the house or secure area.
What do I do if a bear comes towards me or attacks?1. If the bear paws the ground, huffs and puffs, clacks and snorts, or runs directly at you, they are
trying to scare you off. If you stand your ground, the bear will likely stop and move away.
2. No matter what happens, do not run away. Continue slowly backing away, talking and holding up your arms. The bear may charge or vocalize several times until he is comfortable turning his back on you and leaving.
How to Survive a Black Bear Attack1. Carry bear pepper spray. As with the grizzly bear, bear pepper spray should be your first line of defense in a bear attack.
2. Stand your ground and make lots of noise. Black bears often bluff when attacking. If you show them you mean business, they may just lose interest.
3. Don't climb a tree. Black bears are excellent climbers. Climbing up a tree won't help you out here.
4. Fight back. If the black bear actually attacks, fight back. Use anything and everything as a weapon- rocks, sticks, fists, and your teeth. Aim your blows on the bears face- particularly the eyes and snout. When a black bear sees that their victim is willing to fight to the death, they'll usually just give up.
Ok I like that all of those were to say that they are in fact a threat. especially when they got cubs.
they will run but sometimes they stop and start heading back to confront the one who scared them off, THERE NOT SAFE! and are in fact a threat no expert or tip, can change that.
Alright I'm gonna post this here as someone who has taken a few wilderness and bear safety courses, as well as encountering multiple brown and black bears of varying ages and genders. They aren't SAFE, but they aren't a threat either. They're practically as skittish as coyotes, even moreso, actually, as a cat won't chase of a coyote.
A black bear in particular is a complete wuss. There are only a handful of reported cases of a mock charge from a black bear, and as with all bears standing still and just staring them down tends to send them packing. In addition, they actively avoid human contact. You will never have to worry about running into a bear if you have a bell on you. Seriously, they sell 'bear bells' that are just any old bell, jingles as you walk. Bears will hear it miles away(Figuratively speaking). Bears are just starting to go into hibernation around now. Gets cold and they eat stuff to slow their metabolism and plug their digestive systems. Everything she posted is accurate.
And more to the point, nothing is safe. People die doing perfectly ordinary things, every day. Every minute. And the unfortunate truth is that nothing they did was any different than thousands of thousands before and after. Does not mean you shouldn't do anything.
Also this is way off topic. In on-topic news I had been eating at work, (7-11) and thus was up at 178 over the course of a few weeks. Noticing this trend I started packing peanut butter and limited myself to only one food item from work per shift. Now i'm back down to my target of 165, and my gut is right where I want it, below my ribs, not in front.

STAR'S NEW WEIGHT-LOSS GOAL: Lose three pounds before October 31st :-3
Currently: 184.5lbs
Ya got way off topic there good job every one with the working out and what not keeping on track and what not, PROGRESS!
it was just getting under my skin that there not a threat I still call BS, what iv learned is just keep your distance from them and you'll be fine and watch out for mother bears that's it.
but makin progress of my own spendin a lot of time out side longer walks also startin to Roadie run realy fun I don't get far with it but its fun.
183.5 lbs! down from 184.5! Yay! How is everyone else doing for exercise and weight loss?
well holding weight. could be worse could be gaining it.
As soon as I get a job, I'm hooking myself up with a gym membership.
I've been going to the pool for a few weeks now in order to get a routine going to keep my depression at bay. I know I've already lost at least 4 pounds because I get weighed when I go from my remicade infusion. It does feel good to know I've lost some weight but I refuse to focus on that being the goal. I am already finding just having the routine of getting out of the house four times a week is beating my depressions ASS. Which is the real motivation for going.
I also find I sleep even better now. Takes less then a hour to fall asleep. I love this. It helps the fibro. I still have the depression that tries to tell me "no... stay home... just mine craft all day" But I told it today.. I will.. AFTER I go to the pool.
When I go to the pool (north surrey rec) I start by just taking a 7 min hot tub soak. Then it's off to the deep end with a pair of flippers. I start of real slow because of the arthritis. Wake those muscles up and just do some laps. I enjoy making it not too focused on back and forth by doing spins and stuff.. I feel like such a otter.. It's awesome. Then i give everything a bit of a stretch and try to get my heart rate up. So far because I have been out of shape for so long.. I try to keep it up for no longer then 25 mins. After all It is hard to bring in a puffer (i have asthma) into the pool.
I think what I want in the near future is to be able to go for at least 45 mins. But I .. I'm going nice and slow.
I do wish someone would join me. I find going with others really helps motivation. I tend to go to the north surrey rec center pool at surrey central before noon to about 2 or 3... depends on how much I feel I can push my body that day. I go on mon, tues, thurs and friday. I have DBT group on Wednesdays so I figured it would be perfect to break up the week.
I have also been slowly switching all my food products to non-gmo. I can feel the difference. Less bloating, less gas, less upset tummy, less acid reflex. and more importantly LESS blood from my crohn's.
And some people think I'm retarded for believing that non-gmo food is better. My body is telling me I'm making the RIGHT choices now in what I'm eating. It has been a long journey to finding food that doesn't hurt.
I'm also once again eating less and less meat. more out of cost but I always feel better with little to no meat in my diet.
I love this thread idea and hope to come here and read for motivation on those days where my body argues with me.
would love to see some familiar faces at the pool on Thursday !!! Good luck to us all with our health goals !!!!!

I wish I could join you! And good for you sweetie! You're doing great! Keep it up! It's hard, especially alone, but you're doing really well! Just message me if you ever need any encouragement :3
So my goal was 3lbs before halloween but I have only lost 1.5. However I am happy ^^ I would have lost more if I did more exercise but I have been a bit out of it. But I'm still doing it! Yay! :-3
I've always had a love/hate... mostly hate... relationship with the gym. I always feel extremely self conscious and sometimes "pushing myself" only equals 10 minutes on a cardio machine before I'm ready to collapse. It makes me embarrassed and then I don't want to go back. I have struggled with this for many years and now, at my highest weight, I am desperate to beat this and get into the gym five days a week. But I don't know where to start or how I'm going to get over it.

My suggestion is to skip the treadmill, and go to the reclined bike. So you're sitting back, and working on your cardio. Don't go all nuts, take your time. The machines usually have settings and stuff preset. My favourite is the "weightloss" setting because it's easy on my body and I have really bad asthma. The reclined bike works less of your body. Walking is hard on the body, and a regular bike can be hard too. Same with the steps. Start easy, start on the reclined bike.
I did 6 minutes on the bike before I pooped out and went and did 9 more minutes on the treadmill, 15 minutes to start, and then went and did about 45 minutes of strength training, then back onto the treadmill for 12 minutes. Only did about 3mph on the treadmill, but it's a good start I think.

Sounds like a good start. When I was being taught by a personal trainer he said just stick with the reclined bike until I can get to about 60 minutes of sitting there and doing that. Then maybe migrate to doing others and varying it up. And you should not mix strength training with cardio. It should be one day of cardio, one day of strength. You wear yourself out too fast and cannot get as much done. He even made me do an example of it and I got so tired so fast.
Did another hour at the gym today. Feeling pretty good. Sweaty, but good lol.

I have completed most of the Traboulay trail last night:

A small, satisfying experience:
Coquitlam river at the beginning was quite tame when I had started. After the few hours of light rain cooling my return, the river became relatively loud and fierce. Maybe it is the light rain multiplied by all the mountains and having made its way down after a period of time.
A rewarding journey, but night-roams do require more energy. A once and awhile treat deserved to raise my spirits and round off a little bit of laziness in spare time recently.
If anyone is feeling adventurous to do some winterly hikes - the capable tiger enjoys a challenge when he can and they surely are both mental and physical workouts.
I suppose the weight part: I've lost a pound this week, now at 155 which I am happy with the results. I have lost a lot in the past two years, hiking and a physically demanding job help - Eating well helps most, cutting out bad things and replacing them with goods such as fish, sandwiches of various types even in generous proportions both help keep me satisfied and better fuel my activities. I adjust them depending on what I do and keep my meals smaller, and more often (big meals often don't make me feel "full" so I don't know how much I should eat..and are a lot for my body to process at once, so why not take only what I need when I need it?).
Tigerface.
