Registration and web site are up and running!
CampFur 2013 is now OFFICIAL! June 20th to the 23rd.
Located in the mountains just north of Hope on the Coquihalla Highway.
Arrive Thursday afternoon / evening and set up your tent / trailer for a fun filled weekend of camping with the furs!
All meals are provided - all you have to bring is your snacks, booze / mix, clothes, and sleeping arrangements.
The town of Hope is only a few minutes away so if you forget something, its not difficult to get to.
Tent-Share: All those bringing tents / trailers are encouraged to share their space with those who do not have such facilities.
Transportation: If you have transportation and have room to bring others, please let us know so that we can arrange ride-share with those who need transportation.
Its 'rough-camping' - meaning we are in the woods.
I will do what I can to bring all that we need, but if you have special requirements, contact me and let me know what you might need.
FRESH / CLEAN washroom facilities (more than one) will be provided for the weekend.
Saturday night is the much talked about / much anticipated HAWAIIAN LUAU ... included with your registration fee.
Go to: www.campfur.ca/ (http://www.campfur.ca/) and be sure to register today as space will be limited!
Location / directions will be given approx. 1 week prior to the event (we will secure the location a few days earlier and will notify all those who have registered.
T-Shirts are available for sale as well as extended memberships (Sponsor / Patron) ...
T-Shirts come with the sponsor / patron memberships as well as 'Front of the Line' to any activities at the event.
I am also hoping to have an ART TABLE set up for those who are way better at drawing than I am! More activities / tours will be set up this year ...
as well as more tarps (just in case)
If you heard about Campfur 2011/ 2012, I am sure you heard good things! I hope you can arrange to come this year!!
NEW this year: Patrons (along with all the other goodies that come along with a Patron membership) get LOBSTER for their Saturday night meal!
See you in the woods!! ... See you in the woods!! ... See you in the woods!! ... See you in the woods!! ... See you in the woods!! ... See you in the woods!! ... See you in the woods!! ... See you in the woods!! ...
In light of recent comments made regarding my events,
I wish to make it perfectly clear that this event -
along with all my other events I have thru-out the year -

Would love to have the B00bs be there! Prices (and benefits) are listed on the web site. (www.campfur.ca (http://www.campfur.ca))

This seems pretty solid. If I could get a ride up there I'd totally go.
I'm hoping to get a truck in time for this. I would love to take the camper up, which I'd be willing to share. (Sleeps 3-4). Otherwise I'll be stuck with having to find a ride up there with someone for Friday evening. I won't be able to go up on Thursday because of work. :\

Furboys??? LOL Bring it on!!
I haven't been camping proper in aaaages. Used to go all the time when I was younger.
Seems like fun... have a blast though maybe I'll see about 2014. Already have plans this year as it's my 30th birthday. I'm so there!
Hmm, might have to see if we can make it out this year.

Thanks. The thought crossed my mind, but I need to be in town... my younger sister is pregnant and due around my birthday if not on my birthday and I've already made plans. Otherwise I might have jumped on this plus it's for 19+ and with me having a kid it wouldn't work.
I am super stoked to try to make it this year Gizmo. Last June I was a little new to everything and even going out so I passed.. but this kind of event, so out there with fur family and in the wild, it will be so fun.
Your events are just so great.

Was thinking something along the lines of "Campfur 2013: There's always Hope" for a tagline ?

That looks awesome! Not sure how it will transfer well onto material tho ... Was hoping for something that would be similar to a logo or something like that ... know what I mean?
This is amazing tho .. you are certainly talented!! I think it would be awesome to use this on the web site ...

Thanks Giz - yeah I forgot to say lol I started out trying to make a simple lined mountain background for the shirt and it turned into that! I was going to offer this up for the website Splashpage or something hah.. I'll see if I can do a logo type thing after I make some food.

Last year was our first year with t-shirts. We had a logo style design with a campfire, a t-pee tent in the background with two furry characters (one being a coyote howling at the full moon) ...

I'm eating right now but are last years shirts on the site? I'll take a look at them, but I've got an idea in mind for a simpler version of this since I can just turn this into a line drawing again and use it as a stencil background. Shoulda have something in about 30 mins or so

Tagline has been Altered! (Thank tokar for that one - he submitted it)
....I have...a question about this "There's always hope" thing. Hope for what? It makes no sense... Is there a theme? Or is it just a random slogan? Or some underlying joke that I don't know about? I don't get it at all.
Well, looks great and all... but... what the heck is the tagline supposed to mean?
"There's always hope".
Okay... Hope for what? Hope against what? It sounds like it's trying to be deep and just ends up sounding a little strained because there's no real subject.
Maybe it's just saying that hope always exists? But then, why is that the tagline for this event? Are we supposed to feel hopeless about it? Is this a hard time for our country/province/city/community/world? 'Cuz if it is, let me know now so I don't feel like a dick for enjoying myself at the event.
Just something that really stood out to me as confusing.

Hope is the town next to where we are camping
: Gizmo March 14, 2013, 06:03:45 -06:00
Hope is the town next to where we are camping
In that case, "Hope is always there" makes more sense....
another suggested tagline was
"BEYOND HOPE"
tokar came up with that one.
: Star Wonder March 14, 2013, 06:05:32 -06:00
In that case, "Hope is always there" makes more sense....
thats the exact same thing in a different order :-3
there is always hope / hope is always there
Well, yes, that is the point. Rewording it makes it make more sense.
However, I really like 'Beyond Hope' that one cracked me up

Now taking submissions for next years "unofficial" slogan since this years is technically "Get L'eh'd" .... which I will try and put on the back somewhere :D
Some more suggestions?
Hope is for the week (because camping is for the weekend)
Hope; you can make it.
I Hope I can't think of any more bad puns...

You are welcome to attend. You do need to get permission to attend - remember that any alcohol issues that came up last year were not with those who were under 19 - but rather with those who were over 19. I would like to keep that record and make sure there are no issues with those who are under 19. I know you will not be a problem!

From a discussion between friends.
Does the OP know that charging the general public money to attend an event renders it no longer "a private event" by law and they can be sued by anyone for false advertising or discrimination through human rights court action? Private event means private invitations to membership (word of mouth, cards handed to friends only, then money exchanged for right to passage) or requests for membership (screened applicants at the office, then money exchanged for admittance) (IE: Freemasonic membership). No public bills are permitted to be posted for legal reasons. (IE: You never see: "Join the Freemasons today! Call us at 1-800-123-4567") If someone is denied access to this event even though they have the cash in hand they can legally sue the owner and/or screeners for discrimination. (IE: The meme: "STFU and take my money!") It's legally no different than someone screening for 'blacks', 'homosexuals' or 'jewish people' at the door. Best way around this law is to either not charge money what so ever (free) or tell guests to pay their own way (independent cash transfers) to the region and/or event or accept random amounts as 'donations', but never to set an exact 'charge' (price, cost, etc) and then post that fact PUBLICLY. Yikes. Double yikes! High risk bad news for the founders and staff... possibly 'good news' for anyone with an axe to grind regarding these founders and staff.
My publicly posted events are always FREE and that way I can screen legally without prosecution by law. (Personal gripes don't count in law). If I wanted to charge money to attend my private events and still be able to discriminate against others for any reason what so ever (except those protected by human rights), I'd NEVER post them on a publicly seen website such as BCFurries.com, which is 100% Google searchable and archived world wide through services such as Archive.org . Best let your friends know this. Dang, perhaps I should since I'm here anyway. No sense people getting sued over this needlessly. :>
Note: The UBC law assistance society is there to help explain this matter more deeply at any time and there are other such services out there to help people render such matters accurately, either way.
Other than that legal glitch, sounds fun. I shall consider. My own private events come first though. I love camping with friends. :> Nature is my favorite lover.
Edit: Scientology gets around their public screening methods through legally (coughs) becoming a "church" (coughs again). Yes, legally, not morally, of course. Then they can pretty much do whatever they want to you, even stalk your family and so forth with little retribution it seems (not that I want to suggest such, just sharing the truth of law regarding money for 'membership' and screening legally without getting sued).
this is my personal opinion and i am entitled to it. prove me wrong by quoting the law books either in verse or section, sub-section and paragraph...........
something you may want to know. even though a function says it is public there are usually signs that say we reserve the right to refuse admission for any reason. some people have proven themselves to be not worthy to attend any functions due to past behaviour so they can be refused entry.
if you want to get technical, a charge for an event can be made provided something is received in turn such as food or product. a political fundraiser charges money yet they can refuse entry to people. other functions can charge money and restrict who is permitted to attend. the PNE is a public event yet they charge admission to a public park. a hockey game is a public event yet they charge. try going to a Canucks game without paying and see how far you get. what about the bar that charges an admission / cover fee? do you get in for free?
you have lots of gall to come in here and make a statement like that then say you are interested in coming. is that because you want free food while camping? or are you gonna sue someone?
You realize that having posted said legal matter publicly on the forum for everyone to see all you have done is made problems for future events because there will always be that one jackass that is actually going to try and do something like this, and now it's been brought to they're attention
i said you have a lot of nerve (gall) to make the statement you did, and then suggest you want to attend. i then asked a couple of questions as part of the discussion.
since you made this statement in the CampFur thread, in my opinion, you should have made it in private to the event organizer to let the organizer know the possible legal ramifications.
the cost is not for the campsite but for the food and a t-shirt if one chooses to pay that much. should someone want to come up and enjoy the company of others then they are welcome to do so since, as you say, it is a public campsite. but then they should also realize that they are not welcome in the food line.
there is a camp planned for those on the island and it was suggested a communal food menu for all to enjoy. someone started up a 'legalese' discussion and, i believe, it has now been determined to be a feed yourself event. not everyone has cooking equipment available to them so a communal feed would benefit all, but now that the 'legal' possibilities have been brought up nobody wants to participate in a communal feed. sometimes a little knowledge spread to many, creates more problems than you think it is solving.
like xanitos says, now that you have made it public information, some jerk is gonna abuse this knowledge. just my thoughts
Tokar and Xanitos - you two need to stop being rude. I read Reptoid's point, and found it extremely valuable. And I agree with him that you two came about this as trolls and bullies. Not cool.
It is a public forum. This is listed as a private event. Reptoid wanted to point out that there are many concerns and was warning Gizmo and others of how one should/shouldn't go about it for 100% legal reasons. Neither of you need to behave the way you did. State your opinion, but you don't need to be so rude about it.
Reptoid - I agree with what you have said, however you should have brought it up privately with Gizmo and others first before posting it here. Such as sending them an email or private message. I personally thank you for that information as I host events and am glad to know what my options are.
------------
I think everyone can stop with this back and forth stuff and take it to private messages like adults please.
the BIGGEST issue, is if you're renting a single or set or champing stalls in a privately owned site, charging your own admission is a no-no, and with Provincial parks you're not allowed to charge admission at all, unless it is on private land owned by an attendee you are likely to run into unforeseen problems, like if the owner/manager of a camp site were to discover there were additional admission fees charged, the entire group can be kicked with no admission/rental fee refund

This right here. I was reading this in the BC laws.
I know several people that would very quickly tell the camp site what was going on if they themselves found out about it. Two of them are in the furry community, the other two are dicks and one works for parks, the other would just do it because he's an ass lol. Anyway, the whole thing is just trying to cover anyone's butt especially, as Reptoid said, this is a public, and googleable forum, that if anyone looking for camping can actually find the thread, may cause or make issues.
I don't want to see anything going to shit. But sometimes it does. I unfortunately cannot afford to go as it is way too expensive for me. But I don't want to see it ruined for anyone for one reason or the other. Legality or too many people arguing publicly. Or other issues.

Swell, make sure you register in the next few days and reach out whether you are looking for a tent of a ride to get to and from Lower Mainland. Takes preparation but it pays off!
Just a reminder for those who have not yet pre-reg`d ...
The cut off for the early Pre Reg discount is almost here ...
It would be a good idea to get your registration done NOW so you can take advantage of the discounts ...
Giz ...
Sadly I won't be getting the money in time for early pre reg, It sucks but work is work and work doesn't pay me enough!
That is unfortunate, yet as I understood, register before the discount ceased, but you can pay later on. Registering is all that counts. ;)

Also I should be able to pay for myself around the first of June I'm hoping!!
I'm extremely excited because on the 7th of June is my 19th birthday so ill get to celebrate it with all you guys while campings!! <33333
Aaaahhh, i'm on the fence about my attendance at the moment, i'm not sure if I can get the time off work or not. Hmm.
Looking like there is a good chance I can get out to this, now that I'll be getting a truck. If I do go, I'll be bringing the camper along. Unfortunately, I'll be missing out till Friday afternoon.
hey everyone just wondering if there is anyone who has a spare seat for campfur cause im really wanting to go but just do not have a ride yet=P

Great to hear you are joining. Make sure you also make an announcement in the ride share section (http://www.bcfurries.com/forum/index.php?topic=7167.0).

Hey Me and honey were wondering if anyone had extra seats for us we are going to be going pm me please
Sorry guys, I gotta sit this one out after all.
Gizmo,
I probably wont be camping, as my RV isn't finished yet (restoring a 1967 18 Footer)
But I could probably take a spin up there in the Porsche for a nice little road trip and evening out!
Think you could send me the location if I were to stop by for a bit?
Cheers

How is it not conducive to camping??? Are you planning on scaling a mountain? Swimming in a lake or river? Hunting for big game?
I really can't see how camping would effect a cast on an arm ... besides, I was looking forward to seeing your smiling face in front of the camp fire ...

sure they are.. it will help you in getting to know your fellow camper and who is willing to help someone else. we can all take turns feeding you, tucking you in, and more. btw ... you can wipe yourself.
just because your wing is broke does not mean that you can't have fun with friends.

handle lifting .... you can hold the tent peg while someone hammers it in. a medic will be onsite. right Neox?
deal with rough ground .... all ground is rough unless it is quicksand and there isn't any of that up there plus that is what an air mattress is for.
I'd be sitting about grumpy ... so what else is new? jk .. with a bottle of wine beside you ..... there is too much going on and people to talk to with stories and more to occupy your mind so you won't be so grumpy. anyway you aren't old enough to be entitled to be grumpy

EEEEEEK..! :o
Silly me, I've paid and registered for the camp without first securing myself a ride to the camp. I just assumed that I could hang onto the roof rack or bumper of a vehicle, when there may only be an oil pan for me to cling onto. Last year, I rode in with Nikki in his very well packed car, and in to the August camp, I caught a ride with Nikki in Tokar's truck. Things are bound to be different and already planned out by now, so my being an eternal hermit has made transportation arrangements rather last minute.
I have my own tent, and tarps, and bungees, and other camping nonsense, so I won't be a burden once at the site, it's just getting there that's now the issue.
Gizmo, I'm registered under one of my totem names again, so if you see a registration discrepancy, Mothx3 is me.

Hmm, I'm seeing a lot of camping dates on the calendar. If you meant Thursday as in tomorrow, I won't be available to go with you. I won't be able to go next Thursday either because I am hosting the Vancouver Basketry Guild tomorrow, and the Maple Ridge Basketry Guild next Friday. There's a possibility that I could go next week, but that would be dumping the last minute cleanup, and all the hosting duties onto my mother which while she can handle, isn't exactly fair.
I'll hunt down the ride share thread and see if I'm hooped or still lucky.
/Yot
I was wondering if anyone else had room in their car honey and I. Would be so grateful to whoever did it .
Thanks bubblez and honey
I am sure a driver will pick you two up. Be sure to offer them an appropriate amount to cover for gas.
Suggest you mention this in the ride share (http://www.bcfurries.com/forum/index.php?topic=7167.0) section, which is where we share rides.

Now isn't this neat? If you go to Google Maps, and type "the wolf den, hope, bc" it'll lead you to our camping area!!

Maybe a fur used his powers to persuade it as a spot? Maybe a historical remnant? Who knows!
Tigerface.
Don't forget to bring plenty of yummy alcoholic drinks cause I'll be bringing a new drinking card game I've been dying to try. It's called Drunk Quest and it's a lot of fun.
Think Munchkins but with drinking. I'll be sure to draw in some attention to get a game or two going during the event. Can't wait. X3
Perfect coincidence Tiger? Maybe! Though the location for this year remains to be seen and confirmed by Gizmo next week.
To my understanding it is a BYOB event, Kaji.
Consider mentioning activities you are leading in the activity section (http://www.bcfurries.com/forum/index.php?topic=7168.15), as we always welcome activities.

And I'll be sure to do that. Thanks :3
Good point Kaji, yet drink responsibly and bring along what you can handle.

Hey just a note for those attending... Yes we're all paying to be there and yes that includes food and events...
However!! It would likely be exceptionally excellent if everyone did their best to help out throughout the weekend. By this I mean helping with food prep, doing dishes, cutting and helping gather firewood, helping with tear-down at the end of the weekend. Gizmo goes through a LOT of time and expense (even after you tally the registration cost) to make events like this happen... lets not leave him having to do ALL the work too ;)

i totally agree with Lusipher. many people leave early and basically do not do anything to help clean up. they figure since they paid, someone else can do it. i am one of the last to leave making sure that the fire is out.
Oh... side-note... if someone needs a lift up (and I suppose back as well) let me know... I have room for 1 and a small amount of gear. However, I have 2 stipulations:
1) it costs me money to get there and back so something toward gas would be appreciated
2) please don't be insane... it's 1 1/2-2hrs drive and I enjoy what little is left of my sanity :P
Let me know by Wednesday as I plan to leave early Thursday
I can see Buddy's image just fine. Whenever I see someone post that the image is too big or is not seen I can see it and so can others. Yet when it comes to trying to post my own image it says the thread has run out of space and cannot post any more images. So I use [ img][ /img] to insert an image. When others do it I can see it. It's not hyperlinking either. Had the same issues with the campfur t-shirt contest images.
On another note,
Kuviare and I will not be attending. Have fun.
The site is set up (for the most part) and it looks amazing!!!!
I see a number of people on here that have 'signed up' ... but have yet to register. This is your last opportunity to register for CampFur (www.campfur.ca (http://www.campfur.ca)) ... to attend, you must register! Saying you are going to CampFur on here is NOT the same as registering.
So, in short: REGISTER!
It's gonna be such a sunny, good time!
See you there!

The Gizmo is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures with anthropomorphic animals: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I stagger through Campfur, drunk beyond my wildest dreams, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me with more than enough food than I could ever expect to consume: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over with beer.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the camp of Gizmo for ever.

Thank you to all who made this year's CampFur even more awesome than last year's - pig notwithstanding, I doubt anything could top that meal. Thankfully, we only drowned while setting up our tents and the weekend stayed relatively dry.

^ A little bit of Calgary for the early starters. XD Some tents DID have to be fished out of several inches of water, but it was a fucking awesome weekend altogether!
I personally had a blast, and it was amazing getting to share that with awesome company. I don't think I can watch Monty Python anymore without reflecting back to CampFur 2013. :')
Thank you to Gizmo and EVERYONE who helped him put on such a great event this year! I certainly can't wait to attend next year!
So I have some pic's that Josh took with my camera. I ask that, anyone who doesn't want their photos in that album, please notify me by EMAIL if you do not already have my contact info (text, skype, twitter, etc) I don't check this site very often, nor do I check my photobucket. You can get me at st[dot]hayes[at]shaw[dot]ca. Thank you!
Here's hoping everyone had a great CampFur weekend... I know I had a blast and enjoyed myself immensely... I apologize if I kept anyone awake once I started playing in that drinking game >.< That right there would be why I usually don't play them lol
Oh and Ry... um... hold your cards in your right hand next time ;)
This camping experience was a truly shining event in all of the furry adventures I have been on. We have helped each other as a community in preparation, got through fun nights of staying up late, and even the sun shined down in the right moment at the wedding (Congratulations again, Rain and Buddy.) I am glad I could provide the sound system, which was just loud enough.
Campfur was only possible with Gizmo, and the other extremely generous staff and volunteers who dedicated themselves to this event's upbringing and keeping us all comfortable and fed. A lot of gratitude should be given to them, and I hope I can be a sponsor next time to give a little extra on my end than my hands.
Tigerface.
Thank you for your impression it has been a great weekend sharing with you all.

be specific. what is it that you don't find amusing?
i would like to thank Gizmo for putting on another great CampFur this year. although it started out raining, it cleared up long enough in advance of the special event happening on Saturday. congratulations Rain and Buddy. after that it stayed clear up til just before we left when it stared to drizzle a little.
a special thanks goes out to Wereman for all the hard work and hours he put in. without his efforts there would have been much more confusion and he managed to make things just flow smoothly.
thank you to Max for the cooking and kitchen work. thanks to Chris, Duffy and Ja'Natun for the after dinner clean up. to Animal for the finding things and knowing just where they were. to NikkiD for running into town for errands and a late run to get gas for the genset.
a special thanks goes out to the handful of attendees that stayed until the end and helped make sure EVERYTHING was cleaned up and put away, especially the cleaning of the kitchen area.
for those that attended this year, i ask you for next year, and any other events this year, to pack your stuff, then turn around and ask your tent neighbour if you can help them pack up. then when everyone, And the kitchen, is packed up, and only then, head home. sure you may have paid to attend but so did everyone else so what makes you special that you don't have to help clean up? we all have to do some cleanup. many hands makes light work and at the end, there were not so many hands to do the work. if it takes you 2 hours or less to get home from CampFur / Hope, please stay and help. not only is it welcome but greatly appreciated. this way everyone can leave to get home early.

Thanks for the awesome weekend everybody, especially giz & staff! Camp was seriously the most fun I've had in quite some time!
This was truly an amazing weekend, and I can guarantee to you all that I'll be remembering it for years to come. I already made one toast to Gizmo for putting this together again, but I don't think we can congratulate you enough, man. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Gizmo. Getting away from my life in the city has never been more fun, though after that trip to the old rail bridge I'm certainly more appreciate of having asphalt beneath my feet. ;)
A special thanks also to Wereman for being the his same old professional self. Many of you may not know this, but he and I went on a late night mission on Saturday to ensure the safety of the camp, and when we were finished I was glad to know this guy had all our backs. I'm pretty sure he's not going to ask for credit, but I'd like to give it to him anyways. We're lucky to have you, Wereman. Don't stop doing what you do best.
: Neox June 23, 2013, 08:51:56 -06:00I personally had a blast, and it was amazing getting to share that with awesome company. I don't think I can watch Monty Python anymore without reflecting back to CampFur 2013. :')

As the last boat sails down river and the impromptu fireworks show finishes... Gizmo: "I planned those you know." :P
Also... when playing drinking games and simultaneously a member of a certain club... for the love of all that is holy or otherwise... BE AWARE of who's standing behind you ;) ((that one's for you Ry))
