Stay tuned for another update in two months!
Good job on the weight loss!
Sweet, congratulations on the progress so far!
I'm looking to lose 20~ lbs or so... What are you doing to obtain your goals? Anything special or good old fashion eating better/moving more?
Very nice! Thats really great!
teehee the gloves make you look even more cool xD
ya i noticed when i saw you wow .. good work
Thanks for all your nice replies guys...it REALLY helps keep me motivated :)
Still trying to take off a few more pounds (and gain some in muscle in some places!)
Here's my advice for you Mirka.
Think long term. You will see results weekly, but goals should be set in months or even years.
Losing weight is 60% diet, 30% resistance training (weights), 10% cardio.
Don't restrict your eating, if you're hungry, eat. Eat protein and "good" fats (Monounsaturated, Polyunsaturated). Protein -> Muscle, Good fats -> Horomone production -> Muscle. At all costs avoid: Sugar, Trans fats. A good rule of thumb is to avoid eating anything white. Sugar, white rice, white bread, etc.
Everyone likes to run to lose weight, but running does not build muscle. Muscle constantly, 24/7 needs to eat, so the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn around the clock, even when sleeping. Lift weights instead. Use google/youtube to find proper workouts.
That's awesome, and a good mindset to be in - eating healthy, exercising, etc., but never overly. Always in moderation. n.n
I actually kind of feel like I need to gain weight myself, sometimes. I haven't weighed myself in ages, but I think I'm around 150-165lbs-ish @ 5'11". I have like... no muscle. o_o; I'm starting to get a little bit of a potbelly back (though not really), at least. XD
Getting started is always the hardest part, and that's where I'm stuck right now. :p
Thanks for the nice words.
An easy way of getting started is to make up some silly rules for yourself. For instance, whenever you flip a light switch, or open the fridge door, etc., do 5 pushups.
Or leave weights around for when you have a few minutes where you're just standing around anyways (I like to use them while I'm cooking, for instance).
What're you doing to work the abs - anything specific, or a group of exercises?
I've been mostly on the cardio side because of a rotator cuff that doesn't want to stop hurting and makes it hard for me to do upper body weights. It's working, so far - when I get my diet right I drop a pound or so a week, and am down ten in the last couple months since I switched from a bike to treadmill... only 25 to go. =P (Got some serious leg muscles coming along, though!)
Unfortunately what I use won't help you due to your rotator cuff:
(The generic Wal-mart version of this. Hasn't broken or bent or anything, might as well go cheaper)
Tons of pull-ups. Every second day or so I'll do 5 sets of 10.
I'm trying to do weighted sit-ups now as well, but they're boring and don't feel very effective. I feel sit-ups more in my legs than my body strangely enough.
Edit:
Try doing these. They really hurt!:

So was that all one set? Damn.
Haloth must have the shredded Abs of a god then :P
I'd like to lose some weight, but I think I'm too enamored of eating things that are bad for me.
I'm trying to ignore the last three days. Business travel is bad anytime, but when everything's on the company whose media event you're attending, and who is trying to woo you to be positive towards them... yeah, it's pretty bad.
Mind you, I did manage a half-hour on the treadmill two of three days, and then walked another four or five miles yesterday... I *think* that helped with the cheesecake. Maybe.
And I haven't tried those twists yet, because every time I look at the demo my back screams about cruel and unusual punishment...
Hey folks, here's my two month update, I'm at 185 pounds now.
I'm having a hell of a time putting on muscle, I seem to be getting more wiry rather than putting on bulk. I can lift more, and I'm definitely stronger, but it sure doesn't look like it.
I'll keep working at it, we'll see how it looks in another two months.
By the way, I can think of at least two other people who should be putting up progress pictures...don't make me call you out! ;)
Way to go Uni, keep it up! :D
Thanks dude :)
Lookin good! There is a HUGE difference between the newest photo and the last set....congrats!
Stick with deep core work outs, Dips and Chin ups are Key for getting some good tone and more lean muscle mass, if you want muscle low reps high weights.
this is a good idea!
i myself need to loose 25 lbs so my brain stops putting pressure on my eye nerves x.x
that and i can start rideing horses again :D
...but youll see no topless pics of me XD
Ugh, remember this thread? More than a year ago.

A little bit better every day. Put on muscle but a little fat too. I deserve a little embarassment for that.
However I decided to put up another photo because I'm going to be adding more gym days to my routine, with Silfur's help! :vik:
Stay tuned...
Oh Uni, you so crazy.
Crazy about...getting fit? 8)
I don't know where I was going with that. Marfles gave me that comment, so now I'm giving it to you. I hope you like it. :3
If Marfles is there tell him to suck it like it's got the antidote :vik:

BAHAHA! Interjecting to say I'm going to have to use that!
And I must say Congrats Uni! Your coming along with every passing month!!!
Thank you :)
Hey guys! I'm super happy to see people getting in on the fitness thing. I took a fitness trainer's course (though I didn't manage to take the final test), and in light of that, I'd like to give a few pointers...though hopefully I don't end up being a killjoy! :birdy:
My first tip: Stretch. I've seen some VERY unfortunate happenings to people who don't stretch. Usually this is done after your strength workout, though any time during the day is fine, as long as you are physically warm. Cold muscles tend to get very upset when they are stretched, so...take a hot shower, curl up in bed for a bit, snuggle someone, or, as I said, workout first!
Next up: Don't overdo it! I don't know if I really have to say this one, but really, there are a few ways this can happen. For one, if you decide that you like pain and choose to exercise every damn day...well, try to take it easy, eh? The way you gain muscle is by lightly tearing the tissue, and as it is repaired (during the time you sleep or are generally not working out) it's generally repaired a little bigger, so the tearing doesn't happen anymore. This is why people can lift so much weight if they work out a lot. ANYways, you need the downtime in order to have your muscles build back.
Secondly, don't lift too much, or try to do what you can't. I've heard of people (unfortunately, mostly guys) who're like "I'm gonna pick up the 50lb weight and do arm curls with it!" and, what they end up doing, is resisting the weight of the 50lbs on the way down, but they can't lift it back up, so they ask a friend to help them. As I said, we gain muscle by tearing it slightly...This type of malpractice will end you with VERY torn muscles, which will heal lumpy and gross, and that's provided that (again, if you like pain) you don't tear the poor muscle apart. It has happened!
Hehe, sorry guys. I'm a bit of a freak.
I'd love to get in on this one, but I fear the difference wouldn't be very noticeable. I tend to stay the same weight no matter what I do, though I suppose I lose an inch or two sometimes, if I'm really into it.
However, you guys make me want to dance again. I haven't done it in about 6 months! :birdy:
That's all good advice. I remember hearing I should stretch _after_ a workout but I was never sure why, so I've never done it.
And glad I helped inspire someone!
Thanks for the information Runemist, I'm sure someone will use this! I know I will :3
Keep it up losers! (Bah, just realized there was a show that said this or something)
I'm actually trying to work on my weight gain as it is. :-\
Do you guys know about anything in that department?
very good job man ;D ;D :-3 :-3 :-3

From what I've read on fitness forums, eat (healthily)
every few hours, and lift weights. But it's just as hard (or harder) to gain weight if you've got that body type as it is for folks with my body type to keep weight down :)
wewt, I got muh own lil' gym and two deep freezes full of beef and assorted dead animals
I haven't taken any pictures, but I have lost 45 lbs in the past two years. Right now, my weight LOSS is stagnating, because I haven't lost any weight for the past three months. However, I have gained quite a bit of muscle so I am hoping that the remainder of the pudge will start getting metabolized soon. When I stop jiggling, I will post some pictures!
:vik:
I just like vikings.
Great work!
I can't lose weight.... i actually need to gain some.... or some muscle but I don't think i can with my lithe body type.

Count me in as a third. 5'11" and 124-130lbs depending on how much it rained last night. Been this way for seven years or more. :birdy: Wish I could gain something too. Tried before, but it never sticks around, muscle or fat.

I went from 140 pounds in high school to 170 now just by eating moar meat and fats and either working out or working jobs that require manual labour ...and lots of it

Hey folks,
A slot will be opening up soon in our regular workout group.
Gym cost is ~50 a month (no contract), we work out Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 6 PM near Lougheed skytrain, might add another day on the weekend.
If you're interested in attending on a regular basis give me a shout!
