Would it be a good idea to start a furry club at my high school? The only problem is that I'm only going to be at the school for another year and a bit until I graduate hopefully.  I also don't know what people think about the  furry fandom at my school and so I'm opening up to your advise because I only have a basic plan setup so far. So should I do it or not if so what should we do during the meetings if not why shouldn't I do this. I will eventually put up my plan and the rough copy of the poster Ive made for this even if it looks terrible

If you plan on doing it, make sure the school is involved. Making a furry club at a highschool without some support from the school itself is basically asking to get beat on. High schoolers are just mean people, and furries are prime targets. Sadly.

Personally myself, people find it cool that I'm a fur at highschool and like to ask me questions about it :x
Anyways, it matters how many people you can get as a base number that will be there pretty much every meeting. It would probably look pretty lame if you started a club by yourself and not a single person showed up what so ever. The idea itself is pretty cool though, I can imagine easily what you'd do, considering I do majority of that already with my local furfriends ^^ Also if you're thinking your drawing skills is lacking in the poster department, I'm sure someone in our community would love to help  :birdy:

my intentions are to link the group to the school as much as possible via negotiations with the teacher who room I choose to stage the first meeting at and principles. As well as making my part of the group to be relatively secret ill be the follower not the organizer. As well as the fact i plan to have the meeting place change every so often so no one will be able to jump me in the hallway while I'm on my way to the meeting place of choice

PS. when I was thinking about this I thought "this will either be a brilliant idea or ill be signing my own death warrant"

RangerRivet

You have thought this through, then. I say if you're that determined, go for it. Good luck.

most of my close friends don't even know I'm a furry yet. but they know I'm starting an "art" club. So they will be able to put two and two together when I put the posters up.To be completely honest for the poster I did something evil  and traced someone else's art  because I cant draw to save my life  :-[

well as I kind of knew would happen this whole ordeal would exploded in my face the posters where put up early before any one showed up but the news spread quickly when they where noticed and people where laughing at them and some tore them down (which in hind sight was probably in my favor) so I'm debating whether to see if i get any serious emails in response over the next two weeks or so(I have one from a person i don't trust at the time I am writing this ) or to let this whole thing become part of the past

P.S. I'm tempted to screw with the obvious troll  but on the other hand i should treat this like an adult

Unfortunately, man, just wait till you get to a university. I do mean university, not just a community college or whatever. People will be more accepting there (hopefully)

Whoever replies ask them this... At midnight tonight your human form will cease to exist. You will be reincarnated into another creature such as animal, bird, or dragon, or anything else.  Real, imagined, or total fantasy, what creature would you become, why, and what would you call yourself?
I think the answer will tell you volumes.

Here's a question that one should ask at this point: what is the goal of your club? Is it to bring people together? Is it to be an exclusive gathering?

If you have to be paranoid about members joining, having to test them before coming in to your club, it isn't going to be a very open club and could easily filter our people who might just be curious. In that respect you are slightly defeating the point of having a school club, which is to have a visible access point for people who have interest at the school.

If you are concerned about trolling and about the true intentions of people joining having a real interest, the venue and audience may not be the right one. I am not saying do not follow through, but make sure you have a goal and that both your venue and promotion of your club fit in with your intentions.

The point of the club was to meet furries around my age from my local area that I might know already.

The point of the paranoid security was to discourage dickheads and trolls from finding the location and showing up in a mob and proceed to ridicule and or beat up any of the legitimate furries, curious people and myself. The reason they became so extreme was because the initial reaction to the posters was mockery and that made me feel terrible. That not being helped that I am a pessimist by nature. I can see how that could look hostile from the curious bystander who is just curious on what this is all about.

The three things that killed it entirely was: that the posters where very unprofessional looking (the ten I made where made  by hand),they where put up in the  early morning on a Friday  and taken down around midday or early afternoon by either janitorial staff or students and the aforementioned mockery and security led by me being paranoid as hell and nervous (possibly being blinded by my feelings due to the initial reactions).

but in a couple of months or possibly weeks I intend to try one last time with better and more posters as well as little to no security and to apologize to the two people who responded to me originally on the note what should I put for the writing for the new poster if I make any

Your determination to start a furry club at your high school is remarkable. Yet high school is a ground of a lot of diverse individuals who try to define and test themselves. It seems college is more open to develop different and personal interests. Luckily with the internet age it is much easier to find groups with common interest.

Depending on the size of your school, you might be the only one who is a furry. See whether you can start a group that is open to otherkin or students with interest in fantasy art, anime or cosplay. It may reach beyond the furry fathom yet you will cover a broad interest and gather more likeminded individuals.

why are post secondary schools more accepting?

at this point I wouldn't doubt it that is why I'm making one last chance to make this club a reality before I give up until i got to collage or university

other than the groups previously stated who else should I advocate the group to and when i have some of those groups should I introduce them to the fandom?
