Apple - Trailers - James Cameron's Avatar

Curious what you make of this. I love the anthropomorphized characters but don't know if I want to know why they seem to be getting shot at. Beautiful art, in my opinion, but it tells you very little about the story. And for once, a trailer with no voiceover whatsoever (a rarity).

Discuss.

Tis a teaser, that shows you quite a bit, though not nearly enough.. some sort of Matrix-like plug into someone else's body, going undercover into someone else's land and claiming it through bullets for the 'greater good'? Maybe? I dunno. I am a pretty decent Cameron fan so I will most likely check it out, but am curious to hear more about it

I've been discussing it with my mate today, and she seems to think that the title has a lot to do with it. An avatar being an identity, other people stealing said identity to take advantage of or destroy another race. If that is the case, I sincerely hope the non-humans win.

This looks really cool, nuff said.

Nobody's said anything recent about this movie!

Go and see it while it's in the theater if you haven't already.  I went to it knowing nothing about it (I haven't been following the ads) and wow!

A lot of movies feel cheap or pander or try to sell you something; Avatar had none of that and oozed quality.

They really went through it with a fine-toothed comb to make every scene just right, and the movie really took me away and I definitely felt immersed in the film.  That's something I haven't experienced from a movie for years.

There's a TON of gimmicky, shitty cashgrab movies that have come out over the past couple years that you watch once and forget a week later.  Avatar isn't one of them.  I might even go watch it in the theater again, and I've _never_ done that before.

I'm waiting eagerly to see this - got a friend coming after Christmas, so am waiting until then before I head off to catch it. Every review I've seen has been pretty much glowing.

Just got back from seeing this tonight and I absolutely loved it. The plot and dialog weren't anything new (the dialog in particular was a little ham-fisted in parts), but it was all just done so incredibly well... Gave me exactly what I wanted from it. Perfect ending, too-- just wonderful. I sincerely hope they don't make a sequel.

The only way to really see this movie is truly the IMAX 3D. I've seen it now twice and still want to see it again. The first time I saw it, was only in the normal sized theater 3D. That was great but then just a few nights ago I went to see it in IMAX and it just blew my mind. First movie I've every really fully ecperiance in all its sexy, detailed glory. Thinking I was a part of it too was a huge bonus.

So if any of you still have yet to see it I highly suggest you go see it in IMAX.
So worth it.

I saw it in regular 3D, and I want to see it in IMAX really badly. Anyone planning on going to the Colossus Theater to see it?

A meet would be a good idea. So that would be either at the Langley or Richmond theater but it should be organized quickly before its done.

I am thinking we would have about two weeks max, before it's done in the IMAX theaters. Also I think IMAX tickets are about $18 each.

It's a very very very well done film;  epic screen-play, easy plot  to follow, Great CG

it reminded me of Fern Gully! only on a much larger scale

The awesome was strong with this one. I really enjoyed myself. My viewing companion was a little less enthusiastic but still felt it was great. Might try and catch it again myself.
