Something's pestering me about my fursuit

You know how the saying goes, 'You are your own worst critic'? Specially when it comes to most anything that is artistic that you create?

When I was looking at pictures of my suit recently, I started regretting having used the long pile white fur for the chest. When I made the suit, I originally wanted to make the chest fluff out a little. At the time, the fur actually looked good. (Sometimes, when you first get it, it's hard to tell how well a particular long pile of fur will stand up over time.) Now... it kind of seems like it doesn't fit too well with the shorter, off white/cream colored fur that was used for the rest of the front. Plus it doesn't look quite as fluffed up any more.

I've been thinking, if I could find some a slightly longer piled cream/off white fur for the front... something that would be a better match than the longer pile that I have right now. Although, I would likely need some help finding it. The other option, is to just replace the longer pile with more of the same short fur, which I happened to have kept from when I made the suit. Or just find some other white fur and redo all the white on the front again... um.. thoughts?

There are a couple of pictures from when I was making the suit, I could show to give an idea. I'll post them later though, as I was writing this on my lunch break and didn't have the time to find them.

Definitely post some pictures  :)  It will be easier for us to see what you mean there.

Do you know the manufacturer of the long pile white fur? Or was it one of those lucky local finds? I've seen white Monterey Mills "fox" used on several local suits, and have it on my own as well. That's THE long white fur I have experience with  :P

To be honest... I don't know who made the long while fur. It was something I picked up some time ago at a fabric store in Coquitlam, near the Ikea. New it looks rather nice and fluffy. But over time, I found that it clumped pretty badly. Brushing only helped a little bit and didn't always hold up too well.

A side by side comparison from when I was building things years ago. Unfortunately, I think the lighting, it made everything look cream colored. The longer pile is actually a lot more whiter. It's also more fluffy in this picture than it is now, as I've mentioned. I still have the single panel on the left, but it probably has a bad crease in the middle from being stored so long. I'd be more interested in finding some more off white, or cream colored fur, both in short and medium, and just redo the whole front.

On a side note: I do have a full bolt of the red Monerey Mills red fur, but I haven't really gotten around to using any of it. I'd love to get my hand paws on a whole bunch of thick white fur in order that would be good to make an arctic fox at some point. :)

If you want to slightly pad the longer fur underneath with some foam padding, it might help it look puffier.

If I were in your shoes, I'd find a good white shorter fur that you like, and replace the lower part with that.  The upper fur looks just fine as-is, and it might be easier to replace the bottom fur than to try and change the upper fur, which you seem to like.

A third option is to start planning and building a completely new suit, fixing all the little things that you'd like to improve on the current suit.  I know that's not always feasible, though, what with fur and material costs, etc.

Have you made a choice on it yet?  I know this is an old post.  :)
