Grace

So, I just graduated with my fashion design & merchandising diploma!

This is different from what's usually shared on here, but I want to share my excitement with at least some of the community. :3

Here is my online portfolio~

I specialize in highly-tailored, structured, and detailed garments and tend to like classic looks with a modern twist. I'm still waiting on some photos from my final line photoshoot, but otherwise most of the work from my two-year program is showcased on there.

I'd love to hear what you think of my work since I've been way too close to it all for the last two years. Can't see the forest for the trees and all that.

... and I'll totally be open for clothing commissions the second week of November

Phyr

Congratulations.

Looks very professional with a nice clean layout.

I think with the models you chose, helped present your designs very well.

Butterfly sky did not work just took me to the home page.

Opulent Elegance they look so serious! I think you did a nice job. Tell your models to smile a bit :) or do you have to go with a serious look?

Congratulations.

Really nice stuff.
Have you got any designs for interesting, semi-formal to formal, men's clothes, that differ from the standard collared shirt and blazer look that has been the only option for dressy men's clothes for the last hundred years?
I swore to myself a few weeks ago that I would never again wear a tie and I'm being put to the test now. I'm going to need to start looking like a pro, soon. I'll hopefully be able to pay for it like a pro, too.
Would be interested in seeing what you could come up with.

I say you bring back the neck ruffles, Elnath. Can be quite dashing.

Congrats! And thanks for showing it to us - I bet lots of people who sew furry items are also interested in clothing and costume design.

What school were you in? By the background in your photos, I see you're an Okanagan fur. Don't let Father Pandosy eat your models  :P

Thank you!
I think I've fixed the link issue.
I think the serious face is a model staple, haha, but I'd definitely like to do some more fun shoots in the future. Part of the issue is that shots where they look less "posed" wind up not showing the garments well enough. I'll try to work on it with them, though. :)

I haven't actually done much work with menswear yet, but I think I'd like to work on it more in the future (the big issue is pants; pant fly fronts are pretty much some of the most complicated things on the planet IMO). I really love Victorian-inspired fashions, so I'll definitely consider expanding my designs for Opulent Elegance to include menswear, too.
The big issue with trying to change what is currently considered "formal" attire for men is that the classic jacket and trousers look has been a staple for a ridiculously long time with European/Western fashions. The only thing that really changes is collar/lapel shape/size and whether the jacket is single- or double-breasted. While the fasteners/fabrics have become less elaborate than their predecessors and the neckwear has changed, men's (non-casual) fashion hasn't changed all that much in almost 200 years. That's not to say that you should challenge social norms; just be prepared for a lot of strange looks and for a lot of people to not "get it."
When you say you never want to wear a tie, do you just mean traditional ties, or does that also include bow ties, string ties, bolo ties, and ascots? If not, those are all viable options which each offer a completely different feel and look from a regular tie while still remaining decently professional (although I'd recommend adopting a Texan drawl if you go with the bolo tie ;)).

Thank you. :3 It definitely helps to have a good sewing background when you're working with fur, although all the tutorials online are really helpful, too. I'm definitely planning on doing more fursuit-related work now that I'm done school, even if it's just on the side.

I was at the Centre for Arts and Technology in Kelowna. I wouldn't exactly trust the school for a lot of programs, but the fashion teacher, at least, is definitely top notch (it helps that she's a wonderfully sassy English lady - think female Eddie Izzard lol). I'm sure you'll also be happy to know that all of my models came out from the photoshoot mostly unscathed. :P

Very cool. Have you considered designing costumes for theatre productions?

Lady Serpent

Damn -- beautiful site!  It's wierd to see you having come so far; you've got a lot under your belt here.  Beautiful stuff..

Are you still working on fursuits as well?

All the best; Grace -- it's so good to see you doing so well.  :D
