Heya Canadian furries

I posted back in February about our potential trip to Vancouver ahead of Rainfurrest, and wondered if anyone would be interested in meeting up with us during our stay in your city.

Everything has now been booked and my mate and I will be staying in Vancouver from Sat 22/9 to Mon 24/9, and again from Tue 2/10 to Sat 6/10. We'll be spending our time in Seattle in between these dates.

Does anyone have any recommendations for things to see and places to go in the Vancouver area? And if anyone is interested in meeting up with us, it would certainly be great to see you. I'd also be happy to chat on IMs too - just DM me for details ^^

Take at least a day to visit Stanley Park and make sure you take lots of pictures!

If you're interested in that sort of thing, you can visit Science World (aka "Telus, World of Science"), though I'm not sure just how far along the renovations are.

Make sure you visit at least one Tim Horton's, too! =^.^=

if you want to meet a group of furries all at once i suggest that on the tuesday evening, around 7pm you attend to the sushi dinner.  the easiest way to get there is to take transit, the skytrain to columbia stn in new westminster, and come out the 4th st exit.  down the hill about 20 paces.  prices start at $5 and are not limited to sushi.  easy return to anywhere you will be staying. portions are large. finished up around 9 pm

if you are into nature walks and willing to walk across a suspension bridge, i suggest going to lynn valley and NOT to capilano.  capilano is more of a tourist trap and lynn valley is free.

you could go to fort langley - the first white man settlement in this area.  you could take the tram up to grouse mountain  OR do the grouse grind.  an extreme hiking trail up to the top of grouse mtn.

if you like sea food i suggest going to "the salmon house on the hill" arriving approx 45 minutes before the sun sets.  this way you will see the city in daylight, as the sun sets, and in the evening lights.  located up the hill in west vancouver.

one day - lynn valley in the early part of a day, followed by the grouse grind or tram (grind may take up to 2 hours at an easy pace) - both located in north vancouver followed by dinner at salmon house  cost each $30 plus drinks and tips and tax

next day - old fort langley and a drive down to bellingham washington (bring your passports) then a walk along the beach in white rock, canada.

then of course, assuming you are gay - being that you are a pink fluffy husky - there is always davie st and the gay village with its variety of bars and gay owned and themed stores.

I miss the times when the Capilano Bridge was free. The good old days. -.-

Seafood, huh? You should seriously visit Steveston in Richmond man. The best fish and chips are there - I'd recommend either Pajos or Sockeye City Grill, followed by Timothy's Frozen Yoghurt for Dessert. Timothy's has some of the best frozen yoghurt and gelato in a hot waffle cone. Steveston the place for locals to visit during summer and sunny times - I'd highly recommend 'em.

;)
I love a good nom so that's why my suggestions are nom heavy. Read about the said locations on Urbanspoon for more info, though these recommendations I've made are from personal experience.

Science World has been fully expanded and I think the Davinci exhibit is still going on. (I was there two weeks ago.) It's awesome and full of fun science. There's a Tim Horton's (Timmy's) about 2 blocks from it as well!

Also, there is the indoor roller skating meet going on the 22nd (http://www.bcfurries.com/forum/index.php?topic=6200.0) in the evening.

I can't really think of much else of the top of my head.

If you plan to do any fursuiting while in Vancouver, I would love to come and take some photographs for you if I am available.

I wouldn't mind hangin out while you're here, ^.^ you should defiantly try and make it to sushi night!

Hello everyone

Thanks so much for your suggestions, Vancouver sounds like a very interesting place and I'm looking forward to spending six days in your city and hopefully meeting some of you.

I am not sure whether I will bring my fursuit or not - it's quite cumbersome and will be difficult to transport long distances. I'll look into it though - it depends if I can get it as part of the luggage allowance.

I have never heard of Tim Horton's but it sounds fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of coffee but everyone loves a doughnut!

The sushi sounds fantastic but unfortunately we won't be arriving until late on the Tuesday evening so I doubt we can do it - unless there are still people around at 10.34pm which is when our train arrives in Vancouver. It's a huge shame but hopefully we can meet some of you another time (having said this, I could try and rearrange the train so we get there earlier on the Tuesday, assuming it's 2 October we are talking about).

I'll look into the skating meet - we arrive on the 22nd so may be very jetlagged - I'm not sure skating when tired is a good idea! It would be good to come and watch you guys though if we can muster the energy.

I'm a big fan of nature and science, so would love to see both things on our trip. I'm also big on history and beer so if you have any suggestions, it would be great to hear them. Food is also an important part of any trip so thanks for your suggestions - I imagine fish is what Vancouver is most famous for, considering its location.

Thanks once again for your hospitality so far and if you want to chat on IM, DM me and I'll send you my details :)

If you wanted fish based food I would say the island would be the place to go, Vancouver isn't mainly based on fish, we just like sushi ^.^

lupestripe

I was thinking of popping over to Victoria sometime, perhaps I could get some good fish there ^^

xanitos

You'll get good fish here, just not as good ^.^

Oh, one more thing. If you want to learn more about the historical aspects of Vancouver, look no further than the Museum of Anthropology, located in the University of British Columbia.   8)

As far as I know, Frysco and I are the only Brits living here?

Am I that out of the loop?
Basically...Kind of a Big Deal...

Yep, coming for a visit with my mate, Wolfie. Would be great to see you all ^^

It also looks like the Museum of Anthropology is the place to be - will definitely check that out during my stay.
