i am looking at the idea of having anthro-creatures in the comic series i am working on, and want to use an alternative to the word furry and furries.

the one i am currently thinking of using is fuzzies.

i am looking for feedback to see how everyone feels on this, and/or help in coming up with an alternative.

any ideas???

For the longest time, my boyfriend would always unintentionally say fuzzies instead of furries. Thus, I think it's endearing and a workable alternative since I've already seen it in action, haha.

I saw fuzzies now and again. i find it amusing to say. And since you are just creating anthro characters and not something actually related to the fandom, in your story, then fuzzies works.

there are other books, some sci-fi ones i've seen that refer to anthro creatures as fuzzies. So its a fairly normal word to use.

I think you have a lot more flexibility if you're calling Anthros something other than Furries.  Like Furries are normally 'fans'.  Fans of Anthropomorphic animals or "Anthros".  I've heard of interesting names for races of anthros in a world of humans like in Jakkals web comic she made, forget what the name was, but it was made up.

So you could call them anything that 'that' world may have called them?  Fuzzies would work but I somehow read like a million years ago that fuzzies were 'furry friendly' people who weren't furry themselves.

I've been saying fuzzies for quite some time now due to the fact that some people don't like the term furry/furries

I think that I find it slightly transparent and a turn-off if you call it fuzzies.  It seems to usually mean two possible things. 1) You haven't done your research enough to find out they're furries. 2) You found out it's furries, and you want to play-pretend that they aren't furries because you think furries have a bad wrap (BTW your not fooling anyone with this) ..

Call them Anthro's , then you don't have to call them furries, and you don't look silly.

Beasts and Ferals are two words I use in my comic that has anthropomorphic sub-humans. I also call them sub-humans.

I think fuzzies is fine. Really, you can call them anything as long as you explain why x is called y in your universe. Could be fuzzies, fluffballs, walking rugs, just whatever fits your universe.

I think calling anthropomorph's furries in general is kind of silly. A furry is someone who is an anthropomorph enthusiast, not an actual anthropomorph.

I like Magnus' ideas.

"Fuzzy" has been used before in this sense; H. Beam Piper wrote a novel titled "Little Fuzzy".  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Fuzzy

In my novel, which has a world comprised of equal parts by human and anthro inhabitants, as well as feral animals, I chose to invent a word that works as a title of the anthro species, and proceed to just reiterate to the reader every once in a while with subtle descriptions that the word means "an anthropomorphic animal". I chose to modify the word Chimera for this end, given its mythological history as being a conglomerate kind of feral creatures. Now, along with the aforementioned descriptions, I feel confident my reader will understand that when they see Kcimera, it means an anthro is being talked about.
