Hey guys,

The Tekkit server is leaking memory like a sieve, despite my efforts to limit the Java heap sizes for some reason.  I did some quick tests with disabling plugins, but it looks like it's something you guys are doing on the map - I can see there's 10 world anchors (!) in use... can you guys tone down the unattended automated machinery just a bit? ;)  We were up to 21GB RAM used at one point, and this server does get shared with others.  Right now I have the garbage collector going nuts every 30 seconds or so to try and keep the memory usage in check, but it's definitely not ideal.

Stock SMP seems to be unaffected, of course.

There appears to be something slightly off with the spawn warp in the SMP server. Using it teleports me into a wall at 200, 63, 255. (x,y,z)

Kithop

I'll ask Zia to take a look as she was the one attempting to prettify the spawn point.  May just need to enlarge that area.  Does typing /spawn shift you out properly?

Zen

I'll test it when I get home tonight, but using /spawn was causing me to warp into the ground there. I was able to leave using /home just fine.

Hmm, you're using JVM arguments to limit the heap size?

I need to wander on there one of these days. I was having fun building on a Tekkit server with my WoW guildmates, but I think with all the new games that've come out (GW2, WoW:MoP, BL2, TL2) they've all sort of toddled off.

I don't know how it's using 21+GB of RAM when I'm telling it not to go above 4.

I'm going to disable world anchors entirely.

Kithop

Well, all the World Anchors have been nuked, and it's still thrashing RAM...

Guys, I think the Tekkit server is broken.  I don't feel like trying to MCEdit out whatever is busted by hand, so I'm going to shut it down.  If you want, I can post the world file somewhere if someone else wants to try and fix it or pick it up, but I can't risk this thing taking out other services on this box because of the horrendous memory leak.

Stock SMP is still chugging along just fine and will stay that way.

Weird. Ouch on the %CPU, too.

I don't think it was the world anchors, I mean some other tekkit servers must have lots more than what we had placed on server, I mean it could also be just a tekkit/technic launcher problem as well, it's been known to have a lot of problems :/ Cuz when you had said the first memo about the world anchors being a problem I took down a few of my friends world anchors and he only had like 2 running in his area, but other than that, how many in total were still running?? Also what is the deal with world anchors??? how far is the chunk radius that they keep running while offline?? o.o

Selkit

Hunny;

Anchors force an entire chunk to stay loaded in memory. They also tend to cause memory leaks, with certain machine interaction, so an anchor running briefly somewhere is not much of an issue, but one running in an area where something isn't quite working right, will cause a cumulative problem. Longer it runs, worse it gets.

Kithop;

Could you please add Selkit to the whitelists?

J.R.Bear

Could you please add Uniquelyhere to the Whitelist.

Kithop

Added both to SMP whitelists.

Tekkit's going to remain down indefinitely - may try to resurrect the worldfile if they update the server in the near future, but I can't risk running it when it triggers out of memory errors and stomps on other processes on the server. :(

Stock SMP runs totally fine, memory-wise, though.

Xen Garden

Is the classic server no longer working? I can't get to it anymore. :(

Selkit

At last glance, neither the classic nor SMP servers appear to be online, Wrath. Not sure what's up; I can still resolve kithop.ca, so it may just be the server process being a pain in the ass.

Kithop

There was nothing wrong that I could tell with SMP, but Classic was getting connection refused on its heartbeat messages to Mojang's servers.  I tried restarting it a few times, but it either gave me a blank external URL, or says connection refused on heartbeat.  Blame Mojang for that one. :p
Bukkit was out of date for SMP,  so I updated it and restarted.  Not at my comp to test - can do that in 3-4 hours, but it *should* be up, unless I had an internet outage overnight while I slept.

I've been feeling sick the past week or two and most nights I've been going straight to bed after work. :(
