Minecraft Server? - SMP vs. Tekkit vs. Classic

As long as there is a regular checkin by an admin/mod then whitelisting and maybe the Lock plugin should be sufficient. I've seen the f-craft server get hosed dozens times, but it has no whitelist. That's a big factor. Makes it easier to isolate offenders at least!

From the overhead map it looks like over 50% of the SMP server area is water.

Anyone that asked to be on the whitelist should be there now (let me know if it doesn't work), and yes, though the map is watery, that just means you could do something awesome like, say, build a flotilla of ships to live on?

I can grow the map boundaries out if it looks like we're filling up the current space - they're just there to stop someone griefing by running forever.
I might try doubling the boundary from 1000 to 2000 blocks radius, though the server will lag a bit as it generates, FYI.

Edit: Increased main world border to 3000 block radius (chunk data is now ~750MB total), regenerating the DynMap stuff now.  You have a lot more room now. :)

1000^2 is fine until you get like 20+ people on their constantly. I was just noting the water, lots of water opportunities indeed. (I need to figure out how to claim and chunk of land though ^_^) 3000^2 should be plenty!

More important question is ... how do you claim land in SMP? I tried to make a farm near spawn, but I couldn't place the water due to restrictions >_<

You place a wooden chest to claim an area to start, but FYI, there's still spawn protection, so if you're *too* close to spawn, you won't be able to do anything. :p

If you want to see who owns an area, you can see it on the DynMap site, or you can right-click a block with a stick in your hand.  Once you've got a chest down, you'll see these gold & glowstone corner markers - if you have a golden shovel, you can right click a corner with it to pick it up, then click again to re-place it and extend your boundaries (provided you've earned the blocks - you get a certain amount per hour of being logged in).

I haven't installed the mod for Tekkit since so many people wanted the regular SMP server, but I can see if it works..

Edit: Yeah, it crashes on startup - not compatible with Tekkit I guess.

You don't need that in Tekkit, just booby trap your place with a nuclear reactor. Problem solved ^_^

Turns out I am gonna need to buy a LOT of claim blocks. This little island ... isn't so little o.o
