Custom User Groups for 19+ Events

In light of a recent issue regarding minors attending 19+ events where alcohol and other shenanigans not suitable or legal for minors to be present are held, I would like to offer the suggestion that a child-board be created in each events section that is only visible to accounts that are part of a user group indicating that they are of legal age.  Perhaps it could be used to mitigate some of the drama recently encountered to do with this exact issue.

OR

Perhaps a child board + custom user group could be created in the same fashion, but instead be used for hosts to post their events which are invisible to accounts which have been banned from attending private events (a sort of "blacklist" method.)

Thoughts?

I wouldn't be too hard for a person to change their age. i know a few minors who've said IRL that they are underage but their profile here states "19" and some who seem to not understand consistency and has two different ages in their profile. so... There would need to be some kind of way to weed all of them out so that actual underage people couldn't change their age to see. Not sure how though.

(imo. people who act immature like that, would just get banned from my events. if they come, i'd use your suggestion from the other thread and tell them to leave or authorities will be called. And obv do so if it comes down to it.) they make their own bad name for themselves doing stupid things like that. they are outting themselves from mature get togethers all on their own. their own downfall in the local community for pulling BS like that. But yes, its a giant pain in the butt for those hosting and those involved. *shakes fist*

But yeah, if a child board is made, and someone whos not age appropriot for it goes. They should get blacklisted from that 19+ group. If they personally get invited by the host later on. then cool. But otherwise should loose their privileges to view that group and participate imo. (until they show some responsibility.)

The age-bypass issue is the reason I proposed my second idea of creating a "blacklist" group of people who are not allowed to attend private events.  On some forum software, I know it is possible for the admins to change details in someone's account and not allow them to change it back (age/birthdate, for example).  I reckon it would probably be easier for our forum staff to make a custom group for banned individuals since it would not require to have to scan through all user accounts and add sort them between 19+ or 18-.

The black list option is pretty fail safe, although it might stir up its own share of "drama" if people get black list happy. But I guess as long as its only the head admin who controls it then there should be no problem, just to me it sounds like an ability like that should not be so freely granted for just anyone to use, the last forum I was on they gave the lesser mods ability's they should have never had and some of them started to play games of favorites and get even.

There is one small problem though, Word of mouth. Even if one was black listed so they could not see events, that doesn't stop a fellow event go-er from telling them about it and them just showing up anyways. But I guess in that light there is always more black listing.

i would assume the person would know and be told that they aren't allowed to events that are hosted by -this person- etc.
the blacklist would/should be listed on the event page so that those who aren't blacklisted would know who cannot show up. and if they try to show up anyways? well, they are digging their own grave within the social furry community. there are on and off forum consequences for that. just depends on what the host wishes to do about it.

To be worried about drama because of someone finding out they're on a blacklist is a moot point, because there is already plenty enough drama caused by these people in the first place.

I have to agree with Temrin: anyone who KNOWS they are on the blacklist that still attempts to attend events that they are specifically not invited to is only going to make a fool out of him/herself, and eventually become ostracized by everyone.  That's entirely their decision.

A nother thing to do would be to make a thread that you could choose who you invite to be able to see the thread. This way if someone is pretending to be 19+ or made a fake account to pretend to be someone else they still wouldn't be able to see the thread and to prevent exclusion a list of options could be available to control who can see it like the facebook options; custom, friends, friends of friends. I honestly don't see why this is such a problem since all drinking events are usualy at someone's house or at a far away location and it is as simple as not letting someone through the door or in the car, rather than letting them come and then bitching about it on the forum. It is making the parties look bad that I, not only because I am underaged, don't even want to go to an event like that because of all the shit I hear afterwards.
I've always been told to never look a life behind a window to go outside and join the world, but what about the world behind that window makes the outside so much better?
