I'm not quite sure where to post this, but the technology board seemed close enough.

Long story short, I lost my phone on the bus this evening and have pretty low expectations of finding it again. So I'll probably be shopping for a new phone later this week. And since it looks like I'm staying in BC this summer, I'd like to get some sort of plan that would actually allow me to send and receive texts from you guys. I know next to nothing about these things, so I'm wondering if you tech-savvy furs have any recommendations.

Tech-savvy and text-savvy, right? =^.~=

Would you like to use a carrier that directly supports this area or stick with your original carrier?

If you choose to go with a carrier in this area and want something fairly cheap, I'd recommend Telus's pre-paid plan.
You can get a fairly wide range of phones for less than a hundred dollars, including ones with a physical keyboard.
(my current phone is an LG Rumour and features a slide-out keyboard which cost me around $60 or so)

Just about every single London Drugs, Best Buy, and Future Shop stores (to name a few) have a wide variety of phones, as well as knowledgeable staff that can suggest phones for you based on your requirements.

Whitefoot: by BC, do you mean Vancouver, or just BC? If Vancouver, and not really moving around too much, then it's better to grab something on Wind. Otherwise, I'd say any carrier is okay. Take your pick of phone, though I'd say try to stay away from low end androids. Midrange, you'd be okay.
