I like Higurashi, but will warn you ahead of time that it's really messed up.

Also Ebichu, which is also messed up but in a much more light-hearted way.

I'll watch anything. I haven't really seen enough animes to have my own favourite genres yet.

I just started reading Higurashi!  Almost finished the arc, and I really like it.  Crazy-scary mangas and animes are my kind of thing, but not something I recommend to just anyone.

Watchin Escaflowne right now. It's kind of nostalgic, I remember I was seven when this show was first released in English.

Make sure you get the origianl one and not the 4-kids/ytv version.  They cut the first episode!

That's what subtitles are for.  They also, sometimes, make dubs of the whole series, from multiple sources.  Might want to do that "internet searching" thing to learn a little about what you're gonna watch. :P

I'm pretty sure the one I'm watching isn't the 4kids version though, at least it seems pretty complete to me.

Pretty easy to tell.  In the first episode, did Van slide the heart of a dragon?  Or did it start with Hitomi and Van already in his world?  Also, Van swears a lot.

Either way, it is a good series.  Just makes a little more sense because entire episodes aren't cut.

Serial Experiments Lain (about the internet, life and death, and the collective unconscious)
Gankutsuou (a scifi-fantasy take on the count of montecristo with an amazing art style)
Ranma 1/2 (about ridiculous martial arts antics and relationships. warning the series goes on forever and does really have an ending)

Also, if you have not done so, watch all the Studio Ghibli movies.

I love Ghibli! My parents got me Spirited Away and Totoro for christmas. I've already watched them both a bunch of times.  ;D

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is also very very very very good <3

I liked that one too. You notice the robots in that movie are the same as the robots in Laputa?
