I've said and done things I regret here, so I just don't do anything instead.

Canada's PM = Not the greatest, but he's handling himself even if i want to meet him only to punch him square in the nose.
America's leader = Obama had hype, but he hasnt done any more than bush to save america's trash economic state.

Canada's economy = bad, but recovering slowly.
America's economy = bad, no signs of improvement whatsoever.

Canada's ethics and acceptance = all religions accepted, little discrimination aside from ignorant people and our primeminister.
America's ethics and acceptance = if you're not muslim you're okay. gay people have less rights than heterosexuals. the fact that they throw them out of the military when they WILLINGLY signed up to risk their lives for their country makes me laugh.

Canada's state in the middle east = although i personally don't believe we're needed, its still efficient at keeping peace in afghanistan.
America's state in the middle east = they pulled out claiming 'mission accomplished' after a war lasting almost 2 decades, and produced no evidence for their reason of invading other than the need for oil, which in end fucked their economy with the amount of money they wasted on that fruitless war.

in short, i tend to see america as a country that's purely overconfident and super-nationalistic.
BECAUSE AMURICA IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I've never met anyone who wasn't a brain dead idiot that lived in the U.S. and liked it. In fact, anyone I know that lives there wants to move to Canada.

i will never say the American people themselves are stupid even if they love where they live. They may have it good for all we know defiantly allot of Americans that are trying to get out but not ALL. I just dont like the idea of people discriminating against a WHOLE country. Yes i made this thred because there country is going to shit and they try to make us feel lesser than them and it pisses me off but i am not talking about EVERY American. In fact we even have American immigrants here on BC Furries.

One thing that really bothers me: God is mentioned in our national anthem. I thought we we're supposed to be the guys who were FOR religious freedom :-\.

On that note, during the Olympics, the mention came up that our national anthem is also sexist, because it says, "In All Our Sons Command" ...

So what would we change our anthem to then?

Zetta

it was a different time, and it doesnt really matter.
some people take everything too seriously.

I believe that part is referring to Jesus. Unfortunately, I don't have an alternative anthem thought up, and even if I did, about 95% of Canadians would be against changing it.

Hey, maybe we could write a new national anthem for Canada? Just for fun? :)

I would love it if nationalism simply didn't exist and there was no need or desire to boast one's nationality.  I would love it if there were no borders and we were allowed to move and trade freely from one person to another without the useless bullshit of currency exchange and import-laws.  I would love it if religion could stay the fuck out of politics (and my life, altogether).  I would love it if I could have an endless supply of good beer and free internet.

Where am I going with this one?  I dunno.  Still not getting any free beer. =\

sounds to me like the way most countries in europe were before christianity made its way there.
aside from internet.

but it was alot simpler and there were no real borders then.

I think the funny (and I don't mean "ha ha" funny) thing about the whole Canada/US relationship is that Canadians are a lot more interested in - and exposed to - the US than Americans are in Canada. I think some of the root of the rampant anti-Americanism in Canada is just plain resentment of that fact. I'm not a fan of nationalism and it bothers me that that attitude is so readily pandered to in this country.

I actually really like the US, even if some of its culture (especially its political culture) baffles me, but I don't think I'd want to live there because the influence of the right wing and the deep-seated market-worshipping ultra-libertarian attitudes don't quite sit well with me, even if I have some sympathy for the libertarian urge. Certainly more than I do for the conservative ones, anyway.

I also think Canadians are distressingly ignorant of a lot of the dark episodes in their own country's past. Will Ferguson writes on that topic a lot and his books are well worth picking up.

Really? I've met plenty. I think a country and a nationality aren't something you throw away offhandedly, and I have respect for the people who would rather try to fix their country than abandon it, even when it looks most hopeless.

It's very easy to fall into US-bashing. Harder, I think, to look past the media image and see the people behind it, and to keep in mind that the biggest idiots are also often the loudest.

I think there are a lot of important differences between Canada and the US - in some ways the UK felt less alien to me than the US - but I don't think we should be so quick to get smug about them.

I believe the suggested line was "true patriot love, in all of us command".

Zetta

i will complain about the grammar in it no matter what then.
because its not a big deal, and its just too old to matter unless they're some kind of person who gets antagonized by everything and should learn to calm their fucking pants.

I don't want to calm my pants! I like my pants agitated  :-3
