What car do you have?

Little off topic but what is ICBC scamming you out there for your car? If I were to insure mine out there with the 43% discount I would be paying $2000/year since I am back in Alberta I am paying $1040/year. My insurance went up 280 with the new 2013 Ford Fusion. I bought it off the lot with 12km and yes I have had a few glitches but so far my dealer has been pretty good about fixing them :)

Adesa is where my old job got a lot of their "cheap run of the mills" Nissan Versas, Chrysler 200s, Pontiac G5s, Chevy Cobalts, Ford Escapes.. pretty much if its a domestic vehicle you see everywhere, or a very cheap import you see everywhere. We sold em after buying them bulk from auction. Those vehicles all did have inspections and ran decent. But as with many thing that go up for sale there are those little hidden issues.. Like Cobalts throwing engine lights like a new-yorker throws the phrase "hey fuck you". Or Nissan Versas being notorious for bad engines (many I worked with had developed horrible ticks and knocks by only 40,000-90,000km)

I would have loved to go to an auction cause I hear there are some actual great deals. My work place was simply buying the more plain and cheap priced cars there (easy to turn a profit when you are buying a cobalt for $2000 as part of a bulk deal and then flipping it for $10,000) and those SOBs kept saying they couldn't afford to give me even a tiny raise.

I'm paying about $2000/year on mine. It went up $35/month with the G37 compared to my 2001 Accord, though I raised my 3rd party liability and changed from pleasure to to and from work, and also am getting the 10 year discount now (not sure how I wasn't before - I know I'd been getting it at some point).

Since I have an old truck and I live on the South Island, I pay roughly $1300/year for insurance. So far I've been getting the three month insurance (all I can afford right now) but will be going yearly in October when I need to renew again - which is roughly $1150/year for my truck and location; was told I could do it at $95/month via direct debit.

with the upgrades you have made i would surmise that if you left the coverage the same your rate would have gone down.

you can upgrade to monthly payment plan anytime.  you do not have to wait for the present policy to expire.  go in and start the monthly payments now and by xmas you should have a few dollars refund coming to you from icbc.

No, they definitely quoted me more per year. IIRC I was quoted something like $2150 originally - I was paying something like $1600 on the Accord. Also it kinda makes sense that my rate would go up given I'm now driving a car that's nine years newer and probably somewhat more expensive to fix.

This is my labour of love/never ending project.

7mgte fresh off of a complete tear-down and rebuild.
(Ported and decked head, resurfaced block, arp head studs, oversized pistons, reshaped con rods, oversized and baffled sump)
upgrades ct26 .49 trim steel BB
550cc injectors
walbro 255lph
3" turbo back
r154 5speed

Currently putting out somewhere in the neighbourhood of 220-250whp on the stock ecu. Megasquirt in the plans and with a good tune I'm aiming for a reliable 350-375whp

suspension is currently all stock with jic magic coilovers. Planning to overhaul suspension with adjustable arms, roll centre spacers, new poly bushings, and new coil-overs.

I just got it running about a month ago and hopefully I will have it out at autox at least a couple times before the summer is through.

Don't worry. We are going to get it in the shop sometime before/around October. I am eligible to get my N on October 21st.

I love the styling of those, great city car. I use to be really adverse towards 4 door hatches, but with some of the models that makers are putting out these days, nice and sporty unlike the grandma-themed ones of the early 00's
